Charlie's Las Vegas

Let me start by saying the night my boyfriend and I had at Charlie's was by far the most fun we've ever had at any bar. Hands down! I've been to plenty a gay bar in So Cal, but none were ever as fun as Charlie's! I went on a Sunday night during a recent stay in Vegas. Not new to bar drag shows, I didn't want to go to one of the over the top impersonator shows where the performers are on a massive stage, I'm used to closeup, in your face queens, strutting their stuff! Charlie's was perfect. It was freezing out, and we apparently arrived early. I thought the show would start at 9, but it started closer to 10pm. No problem, it gave us time to have a few drinks, and watch people dance. I have never been to a gay bar quite like this one. Straw and sawdust on the floor (made it difficult to walk in heels, but I forgive them!), hot staff dressed as cowboys, and people dancing to any song you could think of, line dancing!!! Even to hip hop, Pop, etc. The music was not for me (it never is, but not their fault I hate "in" music"). The placed was very full, but not overly crowded. The bartenders were generous with the liquor amount in the mixed drinks, and I met so many random chatty people. The drag show was great! The performers were lovely firecrackers, and they each got lots of well deserved tips from me. The only odd thing to me was the fact that it wasn't an ongoing drag show, there were 3 or 4 breaks between the show, which caused us to stay there a whole lot longer than we anticipated. No worries, we were talking to strangers and getting a kick out of the dancing. Oh, did I mention I won a porn DVD! Yay! I'll be watching that with a couple of my boys. ;) My boyfriend had a blast as well, he had never been to a drag show before, so I was glad I popped his Drag show cherry at Charlie's. The next time I'm in Vegas for my birthday, you can bet your bottom I'll be back, and I'll be bringing friends and family with me!
Almost forgot! No cover charge! I'm used to paying cover charges for a show. Nice!

I love, love, love this store! Sure it takes 45 minutes to an hour for me to drive here, but it's always worth it. Everytime I'm in need of purchasing a gift I come here. I've got my boyfriend, his family, my dad and my brother addicted to Lush products because of this location. My dad adored his "dirty giftset" I gave him for fathers day, and I recently bought my brother a bunch of hair and skin products (most from the "dirty" line, which is very male-friendly in terms of scent), and he also loves all the products. One item I can definately not live without is the "dark angels" face scrub. For having sensitive combination skin, it does wonders when I use it a few times a week. I would have never found out about this badass product without an employee giving me a sample to take home. They also have great solid shampoo, bath bombs, and I will not use a body soap unless it's a solid or liquid Lush soap! I've come to recognize the friendly faces that work there, they're all so friendly. My favorite employee is Steve! Each time I go in I look for him because he's just so nice, and helpful! It's because of Lush peeps like him and the always fantastic products that I remain a loyal customer!
p.s. a lot of the products are vegan!!!!

One star only because a few patrons and the bartender and waitress's at this bar were friendly. Came here because it was "advertised" there would be a zombie costume contest during the zombie walk. We easily found a seating area and I ordered a couple of beers while we waited. The chicks sitting near us kept screaming over every song, they were obviously in dire need of attention. It was really annoying. (The boy and I agreed they really needed to get banged) Bartender checked with his manager to see when the costume contest was. He said it was running 30 minutes late. Okay. I talked to a few other zombies who were waiting as well, and they eventually left. We waited and waited. We waited an hour and a half listening to annoying ghetto music. Drinking beer and waiting for the contest. Which never happened. It was probably a cheap ploy to get people here during the event. I ordered one last beer, after 10-15 minutes, the waitress never came back with my beer. I eventually got up and ordered it from the bar myself. Once I was done downing said beer, I asked again about what happened to the contest, the waitress said the manager claimed the "guy" who was to choose the contest winner never showed up. Yeah right. The music is horrible, the place is misleading and the people are ghetto as hell. Never again.
False advertisement will not buy you customers.
There are way too many good bars in uptown whittier to ever come back to this place.

Tasty food, friendly service, awesome decor (I love the changing artwork!), interesting beer selection, and they even semi-hosted the recent zombie walk. Those are the things I love about this place. Unfortunately there are a few things I don't like. The vegan gyro, I ate it many times after being told it was vegan, It took almost a year for an employee to let me know that its not really vegan unless they serve it on a special bread you have to request. Great, I was unknowingly consuming cow puss. Ick! Service is also very slow. Often its just one person behind the counter taking orders and making food and drinks. They once forgot about my order and served many others who got there after, and I was sitting around until I approached them. This joint is the only place i can eat something decent in the area, so I will continue to be a customer for the gyro and beer. **VEGANS! Make sure you request the vegan bread!!!**
(also they sometimes have bands here. Most of them aren't very good though. lol)

I recently decided to try the food here, instead of just going into kind kreme for ice cream. A non-vegan friend of mine and her daughter came along with me, and after downing our ice cream i opted to get brunch to go. I ordered the smoked mac and cheese ($9) Which came with biscuits and gravy and walnut sauce, and a side of rosemary potato or fruit (i opted for the potatoes). We had to wait quite a while, I would say about 25-30 minutes since they had a full house of customers. Finally I get my order and they apologize about the wait, as I'm walking out the door I realize the container seems very light. I open it, and the only thing in the container is the mac and cheese. Nothing else. So i go back in and let them know, they take another 10 minutes give or take and they fill it in with a biscuit and gravy, No rosemary potatoes. I give in, since I'm hungry and didn't want to wait anymore, so I leave. The food I had was really good (though the biscuit seemed really chewy), however I'll stick to the kind kreme ice cream (which is in the same location)....

Shin was a fantastic find for me! Vegan Korean BBQ options?! I'm sold! I wasn't sure what to expect when we arrived (party of 4) the manager (i believe) immediately approached us at the bar so we could order a few drinks first, he was very informative when I inquired about vegan options, and how many of their menu items could be made vegan. I ordered a martini (I wish i could recall what kind) and it was delicious! We were seated moments after, and I was very impressed by the simple yet attractive interior of the place. Our waitress was very quick, for being the only one in sight, helping a few other tables, and a very large party on the other side of the room. She was attentive, and happily answered any questions we had. I ordered the tofu steak appetizer, which was a rarity since I'm not a huge fan of tofu, but it was fantastic! Crispy and soft of the inside, smothered in a spicy sauce and some onion. I also ordered the seitan bulgogi... omg it was great!! A light but tasty marinade, lots of onion and seitan, and I think I ate so many plates of the VEGAN FRIENDLY KIMCHI (no fish sauce!!! WHOOO!), the waitress brought me a larger bowl of it on her last run. Hehehe! Because I ordered vegan food, I didn't get the opportunity to cook my own food in the built in grill at our table like the rest of my party did, but I didn't mind since my food was ready before theirs and it was all delicious. Also, there was a female DJ playing some decent jams during our meal, and the music wasnt blaring and annoying like at some other eateries.
Shin is a fairly long drive for me (45min-1hr-ish) but I do plan to come here again and again when in the area. It's a great place for meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians alike to get some fun food and great drinks!

A Naturway Natural Food

I used to be a frequent customer at this health food store, since it's the only place in my area I can find vegan cheese and jerky, not anymore! The last few times I visited in the past couple of months, every time I went in, the refrigerators were broken. However they continued to sell all the refrigerated items. Each time I went back, the same items were still for sale, in an almost room temperature fridge! I asked a few times about when it would be fixed (I saw the same repair man in there on different occasions), and they always seemed annoyed by my questions. I should have reported them to the health department, but unfortunately never did. If someone were to buy some spoiled meat or dairy, oh man that could be bad! (good thing I'm vegan!)
Another thing that started to annoy me about this place, is that one day I went in the the cashier (old lady with dark hair) was making religious comments to a couple, saying things like "that's the reason we have so many kids doing bad things these days cause they don't believe in god!" This really bothered my since I'm an atheist, and I am a good person. I don't steal, kill, hell I don't even eat animals!! I bit my tongue for as long as I could, but she should keep her opinions to herself when shes on the clock. I did approach her and tell her she shouldn't say things like that out loud, because I was offended, and I told her I'm not an evil person just because I don't have the same beliefs as her. Then she started rambling about Jehovah. At that point, I realized my comment would mean nothing to her, paid for my items and left.
This place is now on my poop list.

ps they're often overpriced too.

Recently was in the area after going to a play and happened to drive by Lotus Vegan and had to stop by and try it. They were about 20 minutes from closing, and we didnt want to be a-holes so we just ordered take out to eat in the car. The women at the front desk were very friendly and helpful, the food was prepared quicker than I expected and everything was very tasty. Also they had fresh baked "ye olde tyme bake shoppe" cookies in little three packs = so delicous!!! If I'm ever in the area again I hope to try and dine in.

Disneyland's Mickey & Friends Parking Structure

I cant believe I'm reviewing a parking structure, but here it goes!

Exit off the 5 freeway, make a left turn, pass a light and BAM, parking structure! How convenient! I flash 'em my Disney Annual pass (with paid parking), and I'm waived on through! (pay $15 otherwise)

In the morning/daytime it's super quick, you quickly get waived into the next available parking spot (sometimes its not too close to the escalator, but who cares, you're gonna be walking all day anyway!).
In the late afternoon/evening, no one there to direct you, so i recommend taking the first open spot you see to avoid going in circles for 20 minutes.

I smile at the suckers (people with kids and strollers) waiting in line for the elevator (you'll be a while!), and I head to the "no strollers allowed" escalator. Tralalalaa...

Now you're on ground level. How convenient, after that long drive, there's a bathroom at the bottom of the parking structure so I can relieve my bladder before boarding! Sweet!

A quick hop skip and a jump away and you're in a fairly quick line and boarding the tram. The tram drops you off very close to the theme park entrances.
....Disney time!!!
