Back again: service improved. Sushi still good. Yay!
Watch this space for an updated review which will, I hope, allot more stars than the 3 I'm comfortable giving after this evening's meal at Thelonious Monkfish.
The food was quite solid. Hooray for sushi available in Central Square! And quite decent, reasonably priced sushi at that. The duck spring rolls were delish. My friend's veggie drunken noodles were, she reported, quite tasty ... when she was finally able to tuck into them, that is. Her food arrived at least 10 minutes before our sushi platter appeared, and she was reluctant to start eating while the rest of us sipped our teas (top notch teas, by the way. My sencha was superbly flavorful). After the first five minutes, we flagged a waiter and asked him to return her noodles to the kitchen to wait under a heat lamp until the sushi was ready. They readily complied, and then brought the noodles out promptly when the sushi finally arrived.
It was their second night, and the place was packed. They need to iron out their service wrinkles. The waitstaff's English was often shaky -- don't assume they've heard you correctly if there's any doubt on that point -- but they were kind and courteous and eager to assist.
The interior is nice, understated Asian. Good lighting, good ambiance generally. A good place for a first date -- you won't feel too stuffy. And there are plenty of non-seafood options, to appeal to both vegetarians and those wanting meatier fare.
Hoping that they get their service and kitchen coordination sorted out soon. I'll definitely be back!

Ursula herself was sitting at the table next to us in the small, family-oriented dining room. A larger group was merrily eating through many shared dishes and bottles of wine. Our group of four enjoyed the grilled sausage with pepper - done to perfection, the veal dishes, and chicken with artichoke hearts and mushrooms. The only - very minor - complaint was that our salads (very fresh) were over-dressed. They were generous with their bread. The meal was tremendously satisfying - we were too full to consider dessert, but I'll bet they're good.
So the food was easily among the best Italian I've had since moving to Boston from New York (North End ... meh). Mario's red sauce is simply delicious - I was scraping the last bits from the container when I reheated my leftovers for lunch today. Four stars for the food, easily. The extra star is for Ursula, her sister (who waited on us) and the other lovely lady who casually chatted with us periodically without ever being intrusive. We really felt welcomed (and got some good tips on other places to try!).
The next time I'm hankering for veal parmesan (which might be soon!) I know where I'll go!
