Earl's On the Avenue
Categories: Restaurants, Dive Bars
Neighborhood: University District
You can have an awesome time with friends here, whether it's drinking their ridiculously potent mixed drinks for mostly $5, or playing pool (which I never do), dance (apparently there's a dance floor on Tuesdays now?) or play darts! Darts are actually really fun and entertaining.
But you must try their Scooby Snack drink, it is basically pineapple rum, milk and midori... DELICIOUS! It tastes like a melona ice cream bar but melted with a hint of alcohol. It's sometimes served as a shot or a drink and it's delicious both ways!
And... that's my support for Earl's! Oh, how I miss college...

I pretty much always have a great time at Earl's.
Two words: Purple Reign.
Or maybe three words: Adios Mother F..ker.
OR perhaps even four words? Long Island Iced Tea.
Whichever drink you pick, it's guaranteed that you will feel at least something at the end of it. It's cheap and pretty much your standard college dive bar, and hey, they know how to cater to college kids cause they're poor.
A little shady on the outside at times, but $6 for a mixed drink gets the job done.

Salvatore Ristorante
Category: Italian
Neighborhood: Roosevelt
I came here tonight with a girlfriend because this place was on both of our "must try" lists for restaurants in Seattle.
I won't lie, usually these really high-rated restaurants create equally high expectations for me. I was very impressed by the service actually. The pace was great and the server (he might actually be Salvatore, but I had no idea) seemed as if he was constantly checking up on us to see if he should approach us at the right time.
It wasn't very crowded at 8 p.m. on a Tuesday night but I thought that was very considerate anyway. And after he read all of the daily specials which was basically half the menu, we decided to stick with options that were on the menu. My friend ordered the tomato pasta with artichokes and I had the white wine clam linguine, yeah all of the items were listed in Italian and I couldn't even pronounce them, let alone remember how to spell them.
The olive oil for bread dipping was excellent, I couldn't stop dabbing the bread with the oil. I'm not usually a bread fan but it was quite good. I really enjoyed the clams in my linguine, I was a little sad that the portions felt kind of small but I was full by the end of dinner anyway.
He was very good about refilling our water glasses too and after we finished, we decided to share the tiramisu... which by the way, was one of the best I've tasted. People said that Buca di Beppo has the best, but theirs is too rummy for me. Salvatore's is def the best so far.
I really enjoyed my dining experience here and I hope to come back soon, preferably when I am richer... we each paid $22 for our pastas and dessert (including tax & tip.) And... that's a little more than usual.
I really like the idea of the cute bib, having your own board, hammer and crab claw thingy to eat with. It's very fun and cute but I wish the food could've been better.
I forgot what we ordered but it was a combination of mussels, crab, shrimp, potatoes, corn, etc. They sprinkle quite a bit of paprika or whatever powder it was... too much anyway.
There wasn't anything too memorable about the food to be honest but their seafood salad was pretty good, I'll admit. There was kind of a view of downtown Bellevue too so that's always nice.
The funny thing was that there's a flood in their parking lot or something that we had to cross a tiny bridge to get into the restaurant. It was bizarre.

I've been here twice and it's always been with my Taiwanese friends who miss singing back in Taiwan. It's definitely a very Asian hobby. The songs are fairly new though so I give them props for that.
But the interior is definitely quite shady and it always looks like it's closed from the outside, what's up with that? Gated door and everything? I think they charge a lot for drinks too and maybe even for the singing rates. I'm not really a fan.

Benihana
Categories: Japanese, Sushi Bars
Neighborhood: Downtown
I was really skeptical because my friends had said that Benihana was just OK... and overpriced. Well, it IS pretty pricey but we had a really awesome cook, his name's Miguel, so it was worth it.
There were 20 of us and we had to split up into back to back tables with two different cooks. We definitely got the better one because when I talked to my friend at the other table afterward, he said the cook was kind of mean and they couldn't really understand him.
I loved how there was so much food because I was really full in the end and I really loved the shrimp, it was SO tasty! Oh so was the mushroom onion soup too... and oh my gosh the sweet onions from Walla Walla, they were quite memorable too. And last but not least, the GREEN TEA ICE CREAM. It was probably the BEST green tea ice cream I've had in a LONG time. They gave us two scoops each too which was AWESOME. I wanted MOAR!!!
No but really, everything about Benihana that night was great! The manager, I believe, the guy with the awesome mustache was SO nice and cute. He took a group photo for us outside when we requested and even suggested we take one on the steps outside too. He was adorable and the service was great!
I can't wait to go back again but I have to say, it's probably only fun when your whole party takes up the whole table and if your cook is amazingly entertaining and funny. We definitely lucked out!
I remember coming here for the first time when it first opened and they were doing a $1 for every plate deal. It was a deal not to miss and we even waited two freaking hours for our order. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu because the price was just too irresistible. We ended up taking our order to Alderwood Mall's food court to eat since it was a ridiculous wait for seating as well.
This time around, I wasn't very hungry but was craving some rice. I always order the seared salmon plates because they are one of my favorites! My bf really likes the fried calamari and boy they were yummy! I ordered green tea which was surprisingly free, I remember they charge at Blue C Sushi for tea. That's lame.
Prices were very reasonable, because we mostly ate $1.50 plates and our total came to be about $20 for 12 plates! It was a very good deal and the service is very friendly too.
I really liked this place, I can come here for pho the next time I'm hungover. The menu is unlike other pho places where it's #1 through #15. There's a variety of combinations that you can choose from. For example, I usually like to add extra meatballs to my pho BUT I don't like paying the extra dollar because I'm cheap like that.
Pho Tic Tac gives you the option to have pho with meat and meatballs or brisket and meatballs, which I love too. Too bad there isn't one that has all three, but then again, I'd be paying the extra dollar. I can opt out on one of the meats anyway.
The service was pretty decent too, very sweet people. I also like that they have other choices to choose from, they just don't have banh mi which is a shame although the best banh mi still originates from Little Saigon anyway.
The pho took a while to come out which was surprising because usually it's SUPER speedy but that's OK, I nearly finished all the broth which means I liked it. Or was very hungry.
Oh yeah, they prefer CASH but I believe they do accept credit cards too.
I ordered the Phayathai Noodles which had the peanut sauce over wide noodles with spinach and bean sprouts. It was like a swimming rama but with wide noodles instead of rice. Except the peanut sauce pretty much drowned everything out, the chicken was good but I probably would've wanted some rice with my order because it was so salty.
My bf got the pad thai which was pretty decent. I liked his order more than mine. Although he probably could've eaten it with rice as well. We ate about half of our portions because they were pretty generous so we have our lunch ready for tomorrow.
On a completely random note about the restaurant, I really loved the fish tank!!! There were so many beautiful and colorful fish swimming side with a hermit crab too. It was so amusing to me but yeah I liked the restaurant atmosphere but the food wasn't as great as I expected.

Vietnam Restaurant
Category: Vietnamese
Neighborhood: Ballard
My friend took me to Pho Vietnam after a night of drinking. And you know what they say about pho. It IS the best hangover cure, no joke! But seriously, sometimes I can't quite taste the difference between pho broths, but I can usually determine whether or not it's good if I finish the broth.
Today I definitely finished most of the broth of my #2 with extra meatballs. I always add a bunch of bean sprouts and I dab my meat in the oyster sauce instead of pouring the sauce directly into the bowl. But anyway, the broth was sooo tasty, I don't know, maybe I was thirsty but it was some darn good pho.
I can't forget to mention the creampuffs too, they were very soft and the cream inside was quite tasty! I liked this place a lot!

We waited for at least 40 minutes for our pitcher of strawberry daiquiri to come. And then when it finally came, they forgot to bring glasses for us to pour the drink into. So we waited a few more minutes and then someone came back with the glasses.
After we drank some for a few seconds, my friend said she felt something crunchy in the drink. And then GUESS WHAT SHE WAS CHEWING ON? A PIECE OF FREAKING GLASS. There was shattered piece of GLASS in the daiquiri. WTF!? We were sooo freaked out and clearly pissed so my other friend complained to the server and asked for the manager to come.
The manager came a few min later and comped our order and gave us free passes too. Goodness, they could've gotten into A LOT of trouble if we reported that incident. But seriously, how could they let something like that happen?
I'm pretty sure the people next to us were pissed too because it took forever for their drinks to come too. Tsk tsk.
