O'Sushi Japanese Restaurant

I like it a lot!

I had been frequenting Kabuki because it was close and Blue Fin had slowly made my "no-go" list, but even Kabuki was becoming a no-no. And Benihana, while good, isn't my favorite place to visit because of traffic.

So after hearing a few reviews from friends saying that they were NOT fans of O' Sushi, mainly because of the small size of the place, I finally decided to make my own decision.

After my first visit, I was bummed knowing I had been missing out. The Vegas Roll and Sunday Rolls (probably like the healthiest rolls you could ever get) are my favorites.

Also a healthy option (like the deep fried tempura sushi rolls above) is the tempura avocado appetizer -- yep, deep fried avocado slices drizzled with honey. Yum.

Small place and crowded every time I go there, but it is definitely my favorite. Since discovering that I like O' Sushi, ,my favorite little ISP (Irish Sushi Place) in December, I've been back no less than 6 times. The waitstaff is always kind and welcoming, prices are OK (not cheap but not overly expensive), and they have so many options to choose from. Way better than Kabuki, in my opinion.

Good. Good. Good.

Small bar with a few tvs, live band on the weekends (or at least the weekend we were there), seats close together...the usual.

Large menu with selections all over the place. Burgers, burritos, salmon, steak. I've been there once and ordered carry out twice, getting a blue line burger and smokehouse burger for carry out and philly cheese the one time I went there.

Burgers are delicious, as are the fries. Cheap prices, too.

Should have read the Yelp reviews.

Went to Saugatuck for an impromptu 3 day vacation and didn't research anything -- felt like playing it by ear all weekend.

A number of restaurants and bars were closed for the season as of October 15th, so we didn't have many options to pick from. We happened to walk past The Butler while we were walking along the dock and smelled the burgers cooking -- they smelled smokey and delicious, and with there being a line of people waiting at the door, we figured that this must be a great restaurant.

We put down our names for a party of 5 and the hostess told us the wait would be 30-45 minutes. That's fine, we figured, we'd just walk along the dock. Came back about 25 minutes later and were sitting around for 15 minutes -- asked the lady how much longer, to which she told us that she had called our party 5 minutes after we put our names down and that we could now expect to wait another 30-45 minutes. We sat outside this time and our party was called within 10 minutes. Why would they tell everyone 30-45 minutes? They had a number of people hear that and leave, complaining that the wait was too long, when in reality it was under 15 minutes. As a side note, when we were done with our meal, I was sitting outside and heard a person complain about the wait -- I mentioned to them that it would likely be less than a 15 minute wait, but their party left to the neighboring bar.  Good choice on their part as the food wasn't great anyways, but The Butler was losing a ton of potential guests.

Anyways -- the food. Myself and another person in my party ordered burgers while the other 3 people in my party ordered the 8oz (or maybe it was 10oz) sirloin or the surf an turf special (sirloin and mahi mahi or shrimp).

My burger was fine. Nothing special, but not overpriced. I ordered the Black & Bleu burger and couldn't complain.

My sister ordered the Olive Burger and was fine with her choice, as well. Nothing special, not a whole lot of taste, but not horrible.

The 3 people that ordered the sirloins or surf and turf didn't finish their meals. First off, the sirloin was the oddest cut of meat I'd ever seen. Each person covered their steak in steak sauce, too, saying that the steak had no flavor. My grandma and mom gave up half way through, saying that the steak was dry and tough. My boyfriend found numerous bones in his mahi mahi mid bite.

The Butler did remove one of the steaks from our bill, but it's a bummer to have a meal that leaves you hungry. Stay away from this touristy attraction.

What I wouldn't give for a lunch do-over to get my 2.5 hours back...

Went with a group of 11 people for an employee's birthday lunch celebration. We made sure to call before we were heading over there to both warn Oslo that we had a bigger party coming and to see if they had room for us -- we figured lunch may be busy. They warned us that they were a bit understaffed so that we'd have to be patient, but that we should definitely come over.

Got to Oslo at 12pm (on a Wednesday) and there wasn't anyone in there -- not one single guest. Our waitress had us sit down and explained rules to us right away: 1 check per party, and if we're ordering off the sushi menu, everyone has to write on the same checklist. The checklist part made no sense, but we went with it.

Then came the part where we should have left. The waitress told us that the Thai chef was out that day so the Thai menu was limited. We were given 3 choices, including Pad Thai and some fried rice dishes, that we could choose from. The rest of the Thai menu was off limits. And if we were ordering sushi, she warned us that it would take awhile to get to our table since they were down to one chef who had to cook and make the sushi. We had already spent 30 minutes there, so we decided to just order sushi.

The first table of four received their sushi within 20 minutes. They were done with their sushi and waited another 25 minutes before the second round of sushi (for the next 4 people that ordered) even came out. Second order of sushi came out and we were finished before the rest of our party received their sushi. A lot of sitting around and a snide comment from the manager that "he hoped we didn't have to be anywhere any time soon."

Besides the waiting around, snide comments, and general lack of caring on Oslo's part, the sushi wasn't even good! Just bland.

I can see why there weren't any guests in the restaurant when we got there -- I wouldn't be willing to give Oslo a second try for any reason.

Opened my email to find an invite to a Yelp event at Sky Bar, and while I still may attend that, I got excited to try a new bar and invited a friend to go last night (same day I read the email invite).

Sky Bar was easy to find location wise, but there's a big sign that says "Sky Bar" with a closed door underneath. Deceiving. You have to go through the lobby doors to the back. I guess it depends on which way you're coming from, but still...

Smaller bar, but I only saw the main level and I guess there's a basement that is more "loungey." Went during happy hour (4-7) and ordered some of their tapas style appetizers (shrimp, artichoke dip, fries). Food was pretty good and not pricey at all.

Their drink menu is a few pages long of different types of martinis. My only gripe with their menu is that it consisted of mostly vodka based cocktails. I only saw one or two gin based drinks and a few margarita style tequila based drinks. Everything else was vodka. For a non-vodka fan, that isn't very appealing.

I did, however, order their vodka cocktails, including a whipped cream based drink that I would give an A and a chambord vodka flavored cocktail that I'd give a B.

After a few cocktails, the strobe lights that keep roving over people's faces become a little bit distracting. Every time my friend was talking, I would see a green dot flying around her face. Still, it's a nice atmosphere.

I'll definitely frequent Sky Bar since it's close to my work and has a nice happy hour offering.

Always good. Wait is super long which is a bummer, but it's worth it.

I always read the reviews here to tip me off about what I should order. I ordered the beef brisket, mac n cheese, and waffle fries my past two visits.

What I should have caught in the reviews (but have since caught after glaring at other people's dishes) is that the sides to order are the mac n cheese and the cornbread. The cornbread - why don't more people talk about this?!?!

I love their food but hate that the beer menu is written on a chalkboard. The first time we went and asked what we should order to drink, the waiter told us to figure it out and look at the chalkboard. Then he walked away. Thankfully I'm passive agressive and just cursed him out on my way home, but now I know to stare at the chalk board before we get sat.

ORDER THE CORNBREAD.

Everyone writes about the chicken shawarma. I'm here to say that the beef shawarma is also fantastic -- give the beef a chance!

I work down the street and visit every once in awhile with my coworkers. Don't schedule a meeting after lunch. You'll be burping garlic as you talk and no one really appreciates that.

Seriously, though -- the beef shawarma is delicious.

Vicente's Cuban Cuisine

Hello, deliciousness!

What was meant to be a quick stop at Small Plates for a glass of Sangria turned into a Sunday Funday at Vicente's for a pitcher of Sangria and lots of tapas. Small Plates was closed but, luckily, a quick check of Yelp showed that Vicente's was worth checking out.

Very quiet when we first were seated. By the time we left there were only 2 other tables. Driving by, I assumed it was a small divey place, but it's actually a very cute restaurant and much bigger than it appears from outside.

Started with ordering a pitcher, not realizing what size we would get. Assumed it would be a carafe for 2 people like you get pretty much everywhere else, but turns out they go big at Vicente's. A 40oz pitcher of Sangria arrived at our table, and we were a little buzzed off one glass. You want real Sangria? I recommend Vicente's over ANYWHERE else in Detroit that I've tried Sangria at.

And then there was the food. Oh My Gawd. So much. So good. So full.

I don't remember the names. I pointed and said "and this one, and this one, oh and this one" when ordering. The waiter was kind.

A beef tapa (the first one on the menu), chorizo tapa, seafood especial (or something like that, #2 on the menu), the goat cheese and tomatoes and, of course, a side of plantains.

Everything was so delicious, and for two people, we way over ordered.

But those jerks kept tempting us, carrying a dessert tray past us to other tables. A Dulche de Leche cake and huge chocolate cake would laugh at us every 5 minutes or so on their way to other tables. So when the waiter was clearing off our table, he didn't even get a chance to finish his sentence when he started saying "And would you like..." My sister blurted out YES like she was being proposed to or something. And just as quickly, a nice, little diamond appeared at our table: the Dulche de Leche cake.

And that, my friends, is the story of how Vicente got us liquored up, proposed, and left us with food babies on one eventful Sunday afternoon.

Definitely "meh" as far as food goes, yet I keep returning.

I've been here 3 times now, with this past weekend marking my 3rd visit. A friend lives close by Frankenmuth Brewery, so it's an easy place to meet up and catch up over a few beers when I'm over that way.

My orders have consisted of the Philly Steak sandwich, Reuben, and Meatloaf sandwich. All were good, but nothing memorable. Filling, but not a lot of taste, I guess. The party I was with this weekend left full, but no one was super impressed with the food. I guess the beer helps to keep you coming back.

The one food that I will rave about is the pretzel breadsticks that come out before your meal. Those are worth fighting for.

Beer is good. I stick with the pansy Cass River Blonde Ale and Hefeweizen, but I've tried everything they have via their samplers.

Ate at Steve & Rocky's on Saturday night: I was impressed.

My parents, who live in Novi, had received a postcard with a "Buy One Winter Blast Dinner, Get One Free" offer. Great offer, especially for the type of restaurant it is (not exactly the cheapest place, though not overly expensive, either).

My sister and I ordered the mushroom soup, while my mom ordered the caesar salad. Someone else had written that the caesar salad didn't look appealing, but I wish that I could have changed my mushroom soup order to the salad, instead. The soup was amazing, but the caesar salad looked delicious. It's pretty much a wedge salad, but man, I was drooling just looking at it.

We ordered from the Winter Blast menu so that we could be our cheap, Buy One Get One Free loving selves. Our entrees consisted of short ribs, sirloin, and salmon. Large portions and cooked perfectly. Everyone was thoroughly impressed with their meal.

Service was so-so. Seemed like the wait staff had too many tables in their sections, as we sat for a good 10 minutes before our waiter stopped by to take our drink orders, at which time we were ready to order as well. The table that was sat behind us when we were finishing had to ask our waiter if someone could take their order; our waiter had that table, too, and told them he would be with them in a minute. The place was crazy busy and the tables are uncomfortably close together. The food really was delicious though, and I was with great company, so the wait and service didn't bother me that much.

Make reservations, otherwise you'll be sitting at the bar for a bit.

I'd say try it at least once.
