Warning! If you eat at NOPA your expectations for restaurants will be forever changed! You may find yourself in a situation where you can't enjoy dining elsewhere, for you will spend most of you dinner comparing restaurant x to NOPA, and drawing conclusions about how much better NOPA is on all fronts.
Seriously though, this is my favorite restaurant in the city. I love taking people there b/c they are always delighted. If you have not been you must go. There is a reason there is a 30 minute wait 7 days a week 3 years into the operation. This place has it dialed.

Going to this restaurant tonight reminded me how surprised I am by the mediocrity that so many "good" (read $$$) restaurants seem to get by on. When I go to a restaurant of this nature, I don't expect my main to come out lukewarm. Overwhelmingly decent at a high price point. Go to NOPA instead, you won't be disappointed there.

Not a review really, but I called for an estimate on fixing a belt, and it was $40 labor plus parts. The vacuum retails for 60.

Carlos is great. Brought in my gf's car b/c the rear lights would not come on. You would have to flip the switch back and forth a few dozen times till the rear lights would finally come on. Other mechanic couldn't figure it out. Called Carlos - he said, "probably a bad headlight switch" - OK... that actually seems pretty obvious... don't know why the other guy had such a hard time. $100 part and $70 labor later it was good to go. No more headache.

I haven't ever been a customer here, but I am currently in the coffee shop next door and my highlighter just ran out of ink. I went next door to see if I could buy one off the guy, who said he was sorry, but he didn't have any. (I didn't want to go far to an actual office store b/c my laptop and everything is all set up and i didn't want to pack / unpack). Two minutes later he came into the coffee shop, he had found one for me to borrow and handed to me, asking that I return it when i was done.
Anyways - kinda unrelated but a cool move that i thought worthy of a yelp.

Terrible. Downright awful. Don't go.
I ate here with 6 people on Saturday, 4/19/08 and we had a terrible experience. Here's why:
- we were one of maybe 5 tables when we sat. The place was at 20% capacity, if that - yet it still took over an hour for our food to come. The waiter kept claiming "really busy, lots of tickets at the same time, blah blah blah."
- when our food did come, 2 of the dishes (risotto) were cold. One veal / pasta dish had no veal, they seemed to have just forgotten - oops! My $32 pork tenderloin dish came about 5 minutes after the other food - a tiny portion of pork on a pile of "risotto" that tasted like it came out of a box.
The one upside - it was so bad that I felt I had to speak to the manager. He ended up comping the entire meal, wine included.
Still not sure if it was worth it.

Jindi's Quality Cleaner

I live about 10 paces from Jindi's... I love having this great dry cleaner steps from my door - Jindi's prices are great, and her service is phenomenal. I think that she has consistently remembered my name since the first time I dropped some shirts off, and I am one of who knows how many customers.
Only one complaint - I never know if I should call her Jindi or Cindy (I can't be alone here). She seems to accept both equally, but I know she must have a preference - despite the ambiguous nature of her sign...
