Bom Cafe is the old Muqueca spot revamped into a beautiful, bright, lovely cafe with delicious food at very reasonably prices. We stopped in for a breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by the food and value. We both had the Brazilian breakfast plate: omelet with chorizo, cheese, and green pepper served with yucca, fried plantains, fresh fruit cup, pao de queijo(cheese bread), and fresh bread----simple, very fresh, filling, and delicious---all for $10! The house cilantro cream sauce and hot sauce were very flavorful and complemented the food very nicely. The coffee was good, the service was fast & friendly, and the food came out quickly. The place was empty when we arrived (Sat at 10am) but full when we left. Its definitely a place where the locals, especially Brazilians, frequent...always a good sign ;)
Overall a great place for a quick breakfast! I will definitely be back!

Wonderful coffee house with friendly staff, healthy food, and free wi-fi!! The space is nicely decorated: bright, bold colors, & inviting on the first floor and dark & cozy in the downstairs area. The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. The cappuccinos (read: European style) and croissants were lovely. The Combo Plate with tabouli, salad, and hummus was fresh, filling, delicious, and reasonably priced! The ample seating, inviting ambiance, and good food makes this place a great addition to my coffee shop rotation.

Nice place for a quick, light, bite & coffee. The space is clean, bright, and nice but lacks seating. The staff is friendly and the line moves quickly.
Now onto the goods: The Egg & Feta (add prosciutto) was cute and tasty. The Village sandwich was small, light, but flavorful. The Cinnamon sugar donut muffin & French toast muffin were nice sweet treats. The coffee & tea was solid.
Everything was good but not great or amazing and the prices to portion ratio is a little high, esp for the sandwiches. I appreciate that they use cage free eggs and organic tea/coffee which I will gladly pay extra for but the sandwiches were not very filling.
The decor is nice but the lack of seating puts this place out of my coffee shop rotation. I would go back for some coffee and pastries to go.

Toothpick tapas is a pretty cool idea...you pick out what looks good and pay by the piece using toothpicks to keep track. They offered a good variety of tapas/pintxos but the food quality is not that great. The price is reasonable, they have wine & beer, and its fast which makes it good quick bite stop while roaming the area. Its definitely a touristy place. If you want great tapas check out Cervecería Catalana or Ca L'Esteve - El Xampanyet.

Great tapas bar with a very friendly staff, delicious food, and romantic ambiance.
We had the: Home made octopus terrine, Sea bass ceviche, seafood paella, and Granny's panna cotta. Everything was delicious but the octopus terrine was AMAZING! We sat at the bar and the service was wonderful. They had very tasty sangria and cava (of course). The ambiance is romantic: dark red walls, candle-lit, exposed brick & stone walls...a nice date spot. The menu is a mix of Spanish and Asian tapas but the owner is French and the staff  speaks very good English.

Overall a great find and we would go back!

Great place to pop in for wine while roaming the Barri. The place is small and completely filled up. The bartenders (owners?) were quick and friendly. The menu is simple and the anchovies looked great but we had just finished dinner. It definitely a homey, cute spot worth stopping into.

Yes, this place is old but I feel that it adds to the charm. The staff is usually friendly but its sometimes hard to get help since they can get a bit busy. I can only speak for the yarn & knitting selection which is pretty great. They carry ever needle you could need which makes it a one stop shop for starting a new project. The selection ranges from stuff you can find at AC Moore, Michael's, etc to high end, fancy yarn and the prices are very reasonable. Overall a great crafts store in a super convenient location.
PS: They are closed on Sundays!

Hurray for a great yarn shop with a wonderful selection and knowledgeable staff in the heart of Porter Sq! I've been here a few time to browse, buy yarn, and ask for help when I screwed things up, but the staff has always been very friendly & helpful. They carry a lovely selection of yarn at reasonable prices so you can always find something to take home and stash for the next project. Its a warm and inviting shop and theres no sales pressure which is great. So needless to say I will be back!

Nice ambiance, friendly staff, and good cocktail list but the food is mediocre at best. We sat at the bar and the service was fast & friendly.
The food run down:
Truffled mac & cheese- too dry and not cheesy enough
Tuna 2 ways- nice presentation and good flavor
Beef short ribs- tender but not much flavor
Basil gnocchi- delicious dish
Prosciutto & arugula flatbread- the lemon pickled onions overpowered the entire dish and made it painful to eat
I liked the speakeasy style ambiance so I may come back for drinks but would skip the food.
2 stars for the food; 3 stars for the ambiance & service.

Great brunch spot in Davis Sq. It was busy but we were promptly seated upon arriving for our reservation. The ambiance is modern, fun, and inviting: exposed pipes, brick, walls of wine, and wood fired oven.
The breakfast pizza with bacon & egg & sausage frittata were both lovely and the portions were huge! Our brunch dates enjoyed the burger (which was loaded w bacon) and the Verdura frittata too. The beer & cocktail offerings are pretty standard too.
The tables are close together and the food took a while but otherwise it was a good experience.
Bottom line: nice new addition to our brunch rotation. I will be back for dinner next time.
