The cocktails are large, a little weak.
We ordered the tapas sampler which could feed an army and was very good. The sliders were juicy and the buffalo prawns were especially yummie. I ordered the filet topped with crab and subbed asparagus for the potatoes. The filet was tasty but the quality of meat is a little sub par compared to other filets I have had. The one at Heidis was better.
The real treat and you must save room is the chocolate cake. Fluffy clouds of chocolate float on your tongue and the vanilla ice cream dazzles with vanilla creaminess.
This place is great for a business dinner or a casual family night out.

I was excited to preview the menu on the web and eagerly planned out my meal of liver and onions, a house salad, and either the filet or lamb.
I was able to make quick reservations for myself this evening and thanks to my GPS rolled up to a bit of succulent dining in a homey hood.
For starters, the wait staff tries hard but lacks wine and food familiarity and education that I normally expect in an intimate and elegant bistro. The training is almost there but my water glass went empty even after a request for water; silverware appeared as a fore thought with the food waiting for the silver to be placed; and the unforgivable lack of wine education tainted an otherwise pleasant and rewarding dining experience.
I started with a glass of Alvarinho Trajadura, Quinto do Dorado "Auratus" 2006 and was disappointed by the lightly sweet fruity flavors a'la Sauvignon Blanc after not wanting a sweet wine or oaky Chardonnay and on the recommendation of my waitress. I hate to send things back so I plowed through my glass. The girls next to me also had a difficult time finding a tasteful glass of wine.
The house salad was good with the acai dressing. A bit of tartness complemented the fresh greens... but only if there was a wine to match. So sad...
Next the liver and onions. Delicious! Yum!!! Even if you cringe and vomit at the thought of liver and onions, you must try this non-livery delightful moist and tender slice of buttery liver and served with crunchy onion rings and a little slaw. Wonderful!!
Next came the filet - another fine choice. Tender, slight hint of a crust, almost melt in your mouth and excellent for the price. The cube of potato gratin was wonderful in the precise layers golden crispy on the outside. The cabernet was weak at best and did nothing to complement the filet. Bummer!
For dessert, again a failing of the staff to adequately elaborate on the dish, I love chocolate and expected only a smattering after hearing the description of the chocolate and coffee baba. Thankfully, the dish was a literal EXPLOSION of rich dark chocolate fudge topped with a chocolate sorbet and a crunchy little liqueur soaked chocolate cookie cake. I wanted to lick the plate.
Overall, this place is excellent but would get another star if the staff was more educated about the menu and the wines were more complex and flavorful.
Go but bring your own wine.

Fire Lake Grill House & Cocktail Bar

I specifically came here for the wild game and walleye on the menu.
I felt like a Lilliputian sitting at the short bar stool chairs... and I am tall. Anyways. I ordered a margarita with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised with a great cocktail and quickly downed and ordered another.
There was a lot on the menu I wanted to try but veered towards the wild game and ordered the venison osso bucco and a walleye slider.
The slider was a mini walleye cake in a burger bun. Tasty but not special. Skip it. I so wanted some good Walleye.
I really wanted the venison to be the saviour for the evening and was hopeful upon seeing the richly gravied shanks of venison.
Alas, the potential of a great meal was forever lost in the venison being undercooked. Oh such a waste, a couple of more hours at slow and low and the meat could have been fall off the bone salaciously delicious. The connective tissue should have melted to the touch but instead the meat was solid and brick hard requiring a heavy hand and a blunt knife to make edible.
So sad. It should be a crime to abuse meat like this outside of the home.
Oh well, but I am so bummed to have squandered a meal on so much stunted potential.
Please cook the osso bucco a little longer.

The Oceanaire Seafood Room
Categories: Seafood, Steakhouses, Fish & Chips
Michelle M. made my dining at Oceanaire an experience. She was astute and opinionated on her recommendations with welcoming advice and sincerity. How often do you get a waitress with a witty, fun attitude and 2 Sommelier levels completed?? ... Me. Never.
She even was kind enough to introduce me to the neighboring table... was it a double date night or pay day? either way I was mesmerized by the red head... my Kryptonite.
Traveling on business I am resigned to dine alone but not at the expense of my palate.
And tonight my taste buds danced happily.
The amuse-bouche was supposed to be spicy tuna tartar on a chip but it was mostly just raw tuna on a chip without the spicy... go out on a limb on this one and make it a little more spicy.
The raw sampler was interesting and unexpected. I never had pickled herring; it was tasty, but don't know that I need to taste it again. Frankly the raw plate is sooo pickled it can numb your taste buds so I tried to avoid eating too much.
The bread had an amazing crust. Crunchy with sprinklings of rock salt to bedazzle your buds. Perfect if only it could have been sliced a little less chunky.
I opted for the prix-fix menu and was delighted with my choices.
The oyster sampler had 1 East and 1 West oyster each .... sadly, but they were fine choices; I love oysters. I wished for more but who needs an aphrodisiac when you are alone?!?
I also opted to add a house salad and was delighted with the Oceanaire House dressing. De-lic-ous~!!! Apple cider vinegar, little egg, capers, and... wish I knew to recreate at home.
For the main course, I had the corn crusted trout with what looked like cubes of roasted root vegetables. I was desiring greens and ordered the asparagus with hollandaise on the side... luckily you also have a choice of spinach, Broccolini, and i think Brussels sprouts. The asparagus was tasty, light and fresh. Yum. The Corn Crusted Trout was good but .... well forgettable... nothing wow but a solid good.
For the finale, I ordered a 10yr Grahams Port and the chocolate mousse. Not the best pairing. The port needed a darker chocolate or the mousse needed a lighter dessert wine. My mistake. I did practically like the mousse dish so I wasn't put out too much by my mistake.
Overall, a great dining experience. The prix-fixe is a great way to experience some great seafood on a meager budget but splurge a little to really enjoy your evening.
I am looking forward to returning with my clients.

For lunch we ordered the ceylon parotta (roti paratha), chicken tiki masala, fried shrimps, and fish curry. Also the Jeera rice.
Everything was really good, portions a little small but the spicy flavors are excellent.
The curry fish was hands down favorite. Spicy and flavorful. Fish was very meaty and everyone wanted the sauce.
The fried shrimps were also wonderfully crisp and spicy.
I recommend getting both dishes and the Jeera rice was flavorful but a little bit over fried.
I washed it all down with sweet lime juice which i wish could have been bottomless.

Reservations are a good thing here but we arrived early and were quickly seated in the main dining area. Nicely appointed and a great spot along the wall to see everyone else savoring every bite of their meal.
Jeff, our waiter, was an AMAZING sage and guide throughout our meal. The educated and experienced choices he made complimented and enhanced the meal and our dining experience.
From what I could tell the Prix Fixe meal was the favorite of the night. I had the Prix Fixe with the wine pairing and we also got the special tuna appetizer and a large Kobe beef filet.
Drooooolllllll.....
The special tuna tomato appetizer of crab wrapped in sashimi tuna was delightfully light with a drizzling of too tame chili oil... could have done with a little more spice. -punch it up-
The heirloom tomato salad was heavy with balsamic and could have been more lightly seasoned. The fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and greens were wonderfully delicious if you could pick out the flavors over the dredging of balsamic... get it on the side.
The Prix Fixe sampler was fantastic and we had the opportunity to compare a prime cut filet and a Kobe filet.
Both are amazing, delicate, melt in your mouth a carnivores delight but the Kobe with a slight crust and ruby center nudged ahead of the prime cut... only just barely.
Jeff's suggestion of having the Kobe sauce on the side was fantastic. The Kobe really stands on its own... the heavy sugary syrup completely over powers the beef and it would have been disastrous if it was poured over the Kobe. -Don't do it! Please!
The short rib was a lesson in slow braising. The meat yielded to the slightest touch of my fork and was nicely complemented by the sweet plum sauce encrusting the meat.
The wine pairing was a nice accompaniment but if only the pours were more generous but for the price well worth it.
The sides are forgettable. Too much butter in the spinach - would have like it blanched. The asparagus is good.
The mac and cheese is a HUGE disappointment. Flavorless noodles... it should be renamed noodles and white stuff. This dish could have used some stronger flavored sauce.
Overall - the Kobe is the way to go - hands down - without a doubt!
Get it! Savor the beefy love!
The sauces are good but with amazing meat get the sauce on the side and leave it there.

Limon is a great little treat. They have taken old world tastes and brightened the flavors with quality fresh ingrediants.
The place is small so try to make a reservation if you can or come early.
Having just come back from exploring the far reaches of Peru, I was looking forward to experiencing the tastes and flavors again.
Without having to travel a thousand miles, they do a pretty good job here.
I started with a Chicha Morada which instantly took me back to the 10,000 ft high plains of Peru... my journey begins.
The chicken is AMAZING - I wanted suck off all the meat and spices down to the bone... I think I did. For 3 we split the half order and got sweet potato fries and veggi saltado - De Lici Ous!
We also had the Ceviche Mixto - need to cut back on the lime a bit.
The Beef ribs are fantastic! Tender cubes of gravy soaked love.
I wish they had quinoa chicken soup; it needs to find its way to the menu.
We finished with the lemon tart and it wasn't too sweet with good lemon.
Really a wonderful evening with wonderful friends. My stooges are awesome.
