The deli meat that they serve is very high quality, they also make their own potato chips and fries. (but have Tim's chips as well!!)

The Porto Surf Cafe took over the former location of Papa Jakes, upgraded, remodeled and improved the space. Instead of the L shaped counter, they now have a counter from side to side.
The cheesesteak sandwiches are still there, and presently some of the other sandwiches that they had before. But they are adding higher end sandwiches to the menu as well.
Great location, great food, and great prices. A gem in the north end

One of the owners highly suggested the stuffed pork chop, and boy was it good. There was an excellent BBQ sauce that made it totally fantastic!!
The red beans, rice and sausage was also excellent, and he suggested adding the garlic sauce - once again make it fantastic!
I do miss the old brown paper bag menus, but thats not why you go there.

My first reaction of Veggie Grill was I was going to be a sport and go, but probably not like it. But after my first visit after this location opened, I have been going back since.
I am amazed at the Chicken Sandwich, Carne Asada Sandwich and also the burgers. The sweet potato fries are ok, but I usually get a salad with them.
The ordering at the counter is great, and you pick your table. I enjoy eating outside - it is great on a nice day.
The only question I have is ... if you are a vegetarian and don't eat meat - how do you know what meat is to taste like? Or why would you crave these meat styled dishes?

The cardio equipment in the front room is rusty, dirty and caked on dust/sweat. The pool tile (around the edge) was dirty and gross. The indoor driving range's clubs are really beat up. The showers have been beat and showing their age.

I was originally a member at the big club on Rosecrans and started going to Redondo Beach.
The club is a lot smaller and more intimate than the big club in El Segundo. The other pluses are an indoor driving range (on the racquetball court), boxing studio, outdoor pool, sun deck, outdoor jacuzzi, etc.

We ordered:
- House salad - chopped chicken with cranberries, etc. - excellent!!
- Pollo Limon - Excellent pasta with lemon chicken - cooked perfectly.
- Special - Ravoli stuffed, with shrimp in the shell, etc. Also excellent.
The wine list was very affordable, with a great selection.
I also found out, there is a pianist on Thursdays, and a trio on Friday/Saturday. Also great.
And last, the ambiance was great, and parking in the area is easy. El Segundo has a very chill vibe - a great place to end up after dark.
