Sushirrito

I got a LOT of looks in the office break room as I slowly savored each incredibly delicious bite of what sushi purists would call a bulky, blasphemous burrito. (Hopefully the looks were directed towards the food itself and not at the crazy man eating it with his eyes closed.)

I'm not sure if it was as "incredibly delicious" as I thought it was at the time or if I was just very hungry, but either way I'm going to head back here to get my huge sushi roll fix again sometime soon. I personally thought the 20 minute wait and $10 dollar price tag was well worth it, as I found it both tasty and filling. A fairly unique concept like this is going to be either a hit or miss with the sushi crowd, so go in here hoping for the best... and expecting the worst.

Ayola

I decided to stop by Ayola during a lunch break to see what all of the fuss was about, only to be slightly disappointed. Ayola was just a little less than "A-OK" for me. I ordered the 9 inch lamb gyro and thought it was a little stale, a little dry, and a little pricey, considering what I paid for didn't even get me fries or a drink.

Either this place just isn't to my taste, or I came in on a bad day. I'm hoping that the latter is true so I have a good excuse to go back and try their much talked about fries.

Thirsty Bear Brewing Company

I really liked Thirsty Bear! This place sits near the higher end of the "casual" spectrum, which makes it a great place for grabbing some tapas and beer, whether you're with coworkers, classmates, friends or a date.

I tried the empanadas: braised pork, chorizo, mixed peppers & cumin creme fraiche in a puff pastry along with a small glass of Thirsty Bear brew and a slice of goat cheese. Everything tasted great and was somewhat affordable, although I wouldn't mind if things were a little cheaper.

Oh lawwwd. This place had me feelin really good off of their happy hour specials.. maybe even a little TOO "good." The great flavor of the sangria (with the exception of one pitcher we had that tasted like onions) along with the affordable value made for a very deadly combination for an alcoholic fiend like myself.

While I have no quips about the alcohol, I kind of got irritated at how tight the walkways and seating areas are. The restaurant itself is a little cramped, to the point where every person passing behind me rotated my chair at the bar. (Yes, it's due to the walkway space, not just because I am a big guy.) Seating-wise it is also relatively small, so it's always packed and wait times can run a little long.

As for the food... I think I ate some... but... don't fully remember what exactly I tried. ... ... (ellipsis x 100.) I guess that just goes to show you how good the sangria really is!

Despite the minor discomfort of being cramped and waiting for a while, I think the deal on their tasty sangria is well worth stepping in, especially if you're with a group of friends. Reviewing this place has really made me consider going back soon. Maybe next time I'll even remember how the food tastes!

Lotus Garden Restaurant

This is a really great Chinese restaurant, tucked away in a very small corner of the equally small city of Foster City. They have a great variety in dishes, the flavors were very good, the portions were plentiful the service was quick, and the prices came out to about $15 bucks a head, which iI thought was fairly okay for Chinese food in relation to my cheapo budget.

The vibe here very accurately reflects the overall message of the restaurant: it's a no frills, family friendly, laid back place where one comes simply to eat delicious food. This message especially resonates with me, as I really could care less about places that focus their experience on beautiful decorations, plating, and having salesmen for their waiters. Instead, it's very casual with kids playing in the back, the radio on very softly, and families chowing down on hearty dishes after school and work.

Okay, now onto the important part: the food! We ordered the special, which runs roughly around $15 bucks a person. Included were salad (what American restaurants refer to as Chinese Chicken Salad,) fried rice, sizzling rice soup, water chestnuts and peas, pressed almond duck, chicken with onions, and green tea ice cream. Given that the portions were very large, it was worth the price tag, as we had to take leftovers to go and were very happy to eat it later. The flavors were bold, textures were perfect, and my stomach was extremely happy, although a lot bigger than when I got there.

All in all I'd give this place a solid A-, which is very good in a world of C and B- restaurants. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for a hearty meal!

Readyforce Company

After scouring LinkedIn, Bright, and Indeed in search of the perfect job (all great websites for job search, by the way), I stumbled upon Readyforce with a skeptical but curious outlook. I thought "I'd never heard of these guys before, so I wonder if it's worth my time to apply for some jobs through them." Good thing I decided to buy into the idea - otherwise I probably wouldn't have found the job that I was just offered!

The process is very similar to how I believe a temp or placement agency works: you submit your resume, answer a few questions, and apply to the available jobs listed. Readyforce selects the candidates that they feel are qualified, conducts a video interview with those candidates containing questions pertinent to the job at hand, makes a highlight reel of the interview, and submits it to the hiring client. The best part about the whole service is that users need not pay a dime! Because the clients are [presumably] the ones paying for Readyforce's service, users get all the benefits of a placement agency at no cost without doing any travel. That alone is one of the main aspects of the service that really impressed me.

After receiving three competitive job offers, I was able to select the opportunity I was offered through Readyforce as the most competitive and comprehensive package. I hope that Readyforce continues to grow and that the team continues changing lives for the better through connecting professionals to the jobs of their dreams. After my great experience with them I will be sure to recommend all of my friends and professional contacts to Readyforce!

Soon's Tofu and Korean BBQ

Delicious Korean food!

If you go here, you need to try their signature dishes: the barbecue (I had the bulgogi and it was amazing) and their tofu soup, which comes with a meat/seafood of your choice and  an egg.

The service was friendly, quick, and efficient. The food was tasty, hot, and somewhat fairly priced, especially for Korean food. All of the banchans (appetizers) also came out quickly, each with a very unique combination of flavors and textures. It was a very fun meal, especially with those.

I'm really glad this place replaced Chipotle, as it now stands to serve as one of Foster City's new favorite mom and pop restaurants.

TIP: Check in with Yelp and get a free soda. Thanks Yelp and Soon's for a great night out with great food and free soda!

Starbucks

The service at this Starbucks is exceptionally on point. Since it's very small and tucked away in a small shopping center where people hardly go anywhere but Ranch 99, it's not too crowded or overrun with school children or business people during the late hours of the day. The tables are always clean, and it's very bright inside- ideal for getting some work done while drinking a nice beverage.

Sometimes they give samples of drinks and snacks, and even bring the drink over to where you're sitting. I think that the staff of this well maintained sbux should receive a lot more recognition for their consistent and courteous service.

YamaSho

I had a ton of fun at YamaSho!

Delicious sushi, a wide variety of Japanese sakes and beers, and hilarious fun with a karaoke room make for a combination that you just can't beat!

The sushi, tempura, and liquors from the restaurant all tasted great, although they were priced at San Francisco prices. What's cool is that you're allowed to bring your food and drink from the restaurant down to the karaoke rooms and even order both food and drink while in the room, which is something I feel is uncommon in typical karaoke houses where you can't bring anything in.

The song selection was unrivaled. The thousands of songs available pleased each and every one of us and our very different tastes in music.  We sang obnoxious Justin Bieber songs, gangster rap, K-Pop, Frank Sinatra tunes, show tunes, 80's jams, Japanese music, and man did we have fun doing it. On the way out I even noticed several thick binders labeled "Spanish Music, Chinese Music" and a couple others, which impressed me even further.

All in all this is a fun place to go out to with a group of friends for some good drinks and good laughs in a private booth. I'd say because the sushi is expensive, go to dinner first and then conclude the night with drinks and karaoke at YamaSho. Happy singing!

BEST SOUTHERN FOOD IN THE 650: A Haiku

Piccadilly's food
is exceptionally good:
Cajun style done right.

Flavorful dishes:

my jeans getting tight-

Sweet tea, collard greens,
Rice and beans with mac and cheese,
I'm STILL satisfied.

Seriously, though, this place is really good. Don't believe me? Check out the MOUTHWATERING PHOTOS I TOOK. http://s3-media3.ak.ye...
