Bakery Mexico

Wow, that was a really gigantic, flavorful, meaty torta azada I just had. I brought one back for my brother who said it was one of the best he's had. It was so cool how the workers gave out free samples of hot fresh churros and bread to the people waiting in line. The bakery display case has too many good looking things that I'll have to come back regularly to sample it all. Yum.

We ordered three dishes and all were pleasantly delicious! We started with a refreshing, light-tasting soup that had ground chicken, napa cabbage, glass noodles, and tofu. The waitress recommended the mango shrimp salad, which was fresh, tangy, flavorful, and spicy--definitely a memorable dish. We also ordered the crab noodles which had a good amount of claw meat and delicately flavored noodles that were cooked just perfectly--I've finally found an acceptable (and much closer) substitute for Marnee Thai's crab noodles in SF!

The owners seemed to have some regulars there that they were chatting with, and though it was our first time there, they made an effort to get to know us as well, thanking us for dining there and to let them know if there is anything they can improve in their food or service. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their business, which I'll be happy to support in the future.

Tacos Uruapan Taqueria Mexicana

A stand-alone, no-frills taqueria serving your standard favorites. I ordered the combo plate with 2 carnitas tacos and a chicken enchilada. The chicken was a little dry but the carnitas was really juicy. My dad ordered the steak wet burrito which was flavorful and tasty.

The young lady working at the register was very sweet and kindly noted my various modifications to the order. The guy behind the grill was also nice and called to us at various times during the food preparation to ask if we needed this or that. They packed us free hot chips for our to-go order, which went great with the tangy green salsa from the bar.

Excellent happy hour! Just show up before the masses at 5, grab a seat at the bar and indulge in super fresh, flavorful, thoughtfully prepared ceviches and assorted root chips with three dipping sauces. Wash it down with a tangy and refreshing $5 pisco punch and you're good to go.

Decent sandwiches, fresh salad, buttery tea cookies, and unique varieties of tea. Pleasant, but borderline-slow service. The greatest disappointment was the cold, dry, crumbly scone (and no clotted cream!) and the unfresh fruit chunks.

We came to the place after seeing it on "Check, please!" Liked the old-school decor, service was fine.

I was pretty disappointed in the gnocchi. They pretty much just smashed up in your mouth like balls of mealy mush; I prefer my gnocchi with a little more springiness and bite. The gnocchi themselves looked like the kind you buy in a vacuum pack at the store, not the hand-made pillows you get at other places where they roll the fresh dough into logs and chop it. The meat sauce that topped it was ordinary.

The chicken alla Sodini was good, though: a thinly pounded breast, chargrilled and topped with thin slices of ham, cheese, and a cream sauce. Rich and tasty with very buttery sides of polenta and a vegetable medley.

The last dish is probably not enough to make me return, especially with the not-so-great gnocchi. It's ok, it looks like they have enough of a following anyway.

I'm glad yelp showed me the way to this great gem.

Very relaxed dining atmosphere, with good lighting, low volume instrumental music, and impressive wine displays along the bar. Refined, but definitely not pretentious.

We sampled one of the Rieslings, which tasted kind of like ice wine, but refreshing nonetheless. The crabcake appetizer is sizable for 2, meaty, and crisp with a nice accompanying salad. I really enjoyed my sizzling cornish hen and was surprised by the portion for the price. The bird was succulent with crunchy skin and a very tasty, not-too-sweet glaze. My bf ordered the braised beef with baguette which was also delicious and so tender that it peeled apart with the gentle tug of a fork.

The service is friendly and attentive. The waitress smiled when she took away our plates because they were completely empty except for the hen bones (I couldn't finish my food so my bf polished off both our plates). She probably thought, 'damn, that girl was hungry!'

Anyway, we hope they stick around cause we'll be back. Give it a try yourself!

This place has great potential. I went with my family and everyone seemed to like their dish.

The shaking beef with tomato rice seems relatively pricey ($13) compared to the other dishes, but it is so worth it as the quality and quantity of the beef is excellent. Tender and flavorful atop a mound of fresh garden greens.

My bf ordered the fried Thai prawns over egg noodles and it was delicious! The dish had a very unique lemon-grass/tamarind flavor that is unlike any other I have tried. The prawns are huge and perfectly crispy.

The other family members ordered pho (beef, chicken), rice plates, and vermicelli bowls with no complaints.

The service was really attentive in the beginning but towards the end they forgot about us and our waitress left in a hurry out the door and never came back after we asked for the bill, so we had to go up and ask someone else at the cashier.

Other than that, a good experience with quality food. I'll be back.

The pho broth was very light and flavorful, and the chicken was well-portioned. I didn't care for the com ga siu siu. The chicken is boiled so you don't expect flavor there, but the rice was bland despite being loaded with fibery pieces of fried garlic shell so I couldn't taste the chicken flavor I was hoping for. I'll probably stick with the soup.

Decent Asian desserts. My favorite is the mango with coconut milk and sago. The male server who works on Saturday evenings has at first has a serious look to him, but he is actually very polite and prompt considering he was the only worker. He smiled and always kept our tea full.
