I would give this place 4.5 stars if the waitress had added value to the fantastic food at this place. First the good. This place was 1 block from the Berkeley and Omni hotels. great location Shockoe Slip area of Downtown off of Cary Street.  Manager and Maitre'd were very courteous and friendly. I had the time wrong so I first went there 40 min early and of course the restaurant was empty (5.50 p.m) and they welcomed me warmly and asked if I wanted to sit in the bar or the lounge and have a drink. I decided to come back because my hotel was close by.
After we were seated we got a very plucky waitress - I would have enjoyed her banter if this was FIve Guys but her attitude to basic questions about wine and the food made me wish we had a different person serving us.
The bread is fantastic and the pasta appetizer sampler is excellent. Now a word of caution if you have had the pasta sampler and a drink it would pretty much be a regular dinner but I went for the day's spcial pasta with seafood ( it had a nicer italian name) and came with a soup. The lentil soup was absolutely fantastic , i have not tasted a better soup in a European cuisine restaurant, the chef deserves kudos. My special came and the little that I tasted of it was good. But clearly we had ordered too much food. Food was fantastic and I am sure to recommend this restaurant to everyone. My only request is if you get a condescending wait staff go to the manager discreetly and ask for a change.

Another peeve is that the check came with a 20% tip added. restaurants that add tip to checks typically do 15% to 18% and the customer can add more if the service was good.

Expensive but great food and take your chances on the service

I really love it when small business like restaurants remember you. This happened to me as I was walking near my office building and got hailed by this nice lady who asked how I was and when i was going to come back to Chao Phra Ya. So go back I did today to the Thai restaurant where everyone seems to know the guests and wow what a treat.

Food has always been good, I had the green Curry chicken and ate every grain of food on my plate and shoe the Tom Yum soup. Lunch specials are very reasonable and service is quick.

I hope to go back and try out a couple of other dishes and report back. Have you tried this restaurant for dinner ?

We went with a group of 14 people. Nothing but friendliness. Imagine a restaurant in America where the waitress brings everyone water along with other drinks - thats pretty cool.

Velvet soup was recommended to us by friends and was great order a bowl and share with atleast 6 people. The Anthony's noodles and General Tso's chicken was superb.

Ok, it was a Sunday and I have been on the road from the East Coast for a few days and craved Indian home cooked food.  This place came up on my search. I was aprehensive about the buffet but since I was there 20 min before closing they told me that buffet may not be best option and also Tandoori meat dishes were also off the menu near the closing time. This worked out good because i was in the mood for Dal Makhni and Roti , which is almost like poor man's food. I was blown by the simple dal makhni and roti which was piping hot and rotis were excellent and the aiter even asked me if they should add butter to them ( I went butterless) I wish I had asked for some lime and onions  or maybe they can serve that with food in the future. Accompanied by excellent curd( indian yogurt) and rice it was as good as a home cooked meal .

Don't go to this restaurant for anything g but the good food and the serv ice. Food is good and the dal tell the story

When you arrive close to mid night to a restaurant and they welcome you cheerfully it deserves a mention. Even though the kitchen is closed the restaurant/bar is open. I would have loved to taste the beans soup though but well maybe on my next visit. Great place for people staying at the Wingate by Windham

One of the best decisions I made was to stay here. it is 2 blocks from the Penn Station and I like to travel to NY by train. The rooms were large by downtown NY standards and free wi-fi. I liked the way the hotel tries to go the extra mile. Since cell phone service is spotty in this area you get free long distance calls. Free business center and even complimentary ear buds if you get disturbed by the street noise.

Very friendly staff and go to the C level for a vending machine for water. Why cannot hotels provide water at a dollar a bottle and be done with it. ( of course no reflection on this hotel just my pet peeve about hotels)

Breakfast was regular continental but nothing to write home about. I like this hotel and will try to stay here again

Being a new comer to the New York restaurant scene I was delighted by the atmosphere of this place. Very quiet and welcoming , friendly staff. The menu even has Chicken Samosas but more like the mediterranean kind.
If you are looking for a great place to relax after a hard day in New York, i would recommend Kush lounge.

Everyone I have taken to this place is awe struck by the lunch Sushi buffet. Great variety. I did not think there would be a lasagne sushi . Excellent value for money. when you go to the Sushi buffet take a tong and then put it into the container set for that at the end.

2 visits and I am  a fan. friendly staff and great value. costs $13 approx for the Sushi buffet lunch

My daughter is a good connoisseur of food and we looked at the Yelp reviews and chose Hunan Palace for lunch. Food is very good, tasty and authentic ( I have not been to China but the customers were Chinese and the wait staff spoke in Chinese dialects to a few of them) Price for lunch is a bargain ( Why is Maryland so cheap for lunch  $6 - $9 but Virginia so expensive?

We had some confusion on whether the lunch specials were a buffet on the steam table and then realized that you go and ask for your choice of 2 dishes for $6.95 or 3 for $7.95 and the lady across the counter gives you generous portions of the dishes and lo mein or rice.

Other lunch specials come with a soup or spring roll. Very good value for money here but my daughter wishes that they don't give you the check before you finish the meal specially when the restaurant is half empty.

First I thought they had forgotten the glasses then I saw the other tables and  then saw that it was a great idea to serve water and ice tea in the jugs themselves.  I did finish 2 jugs of water. My Gumbalya was like sambar rice with shrimp and sausage I enjoyed it very much
