After searching a few months ago for good brunch down the coast, this place came up. I didn't go, but yesterday we did!
It's a cute little diner sort of place, right on the HMB air strip. Little casual planes were landing and taking off the whole time we were there.
I have a collection of words for you. Have a seat, these are going to make you pause and your mouth to start watering:
* Malt Waffles (we got the Banana and Walnut kind with whipped cream)
* Crab Omelettes (nuff said!)
Add mimosas, and a gently sunny day with a friend, and you've got a perfect morning.
I suggest sitting outside under one of the umbrellas, just take it all in watching the little planes come and go. There are several very strange looking planes that land here, but that just makes it all the more endearing.

They brew their own beer--AWESOME! The beer itself, and I tried 3, were all decent. Nothing spectacular, but very drinkable.
As for the food, we ordered an app of Calamari, which was made very well. It was cooked just perfectly, the breading was perfect, and the little sauce was just tangy and right.
I always judge a pub-like place on its fish and chips. If you can't do that right, then I'll never return. Why? Because it's a very simple dish that will show me if they care enough to put effort into the simple stuff, much less the more complex food.
Verdict? The Fish and Chips here are excellent, however they only gave me 4 little fish sticks. They were darned good, and the fries that they come on are seasoned with a gently spicy and tangy reddish powder. They fries were even a bit skimped on, but the four fish sticks that were just about 2 bites each was a slight insult for the money I paid. I didn't complain, but the plate was very underwhelming.
The place itself has a nice staff, the place definitely has an old world pub feel to it, with slightly dank everything, but a fun place. I will return, but tasty though the fish and chips are, they are a sore disappointment.

Ok, that sounds snobby. But seriously, Oakland has some wonderful little nooks and crannies that I keep discovering. If you get the chance to go to an event in the Fox Theater, GO!
It's gorgeous, opulant, ornate, well-maintained, did I say gorgeous yet? The inside is like a Hindu temple, complete with large statues of an elephant god, ornate carved wood paneling and ceilings. Seriously, wow...
I saw Kylie Minogue here last night. Holy Moley! She blew me away! I can't even go into it because there are no words to do her show justice. I may die happy now that I've seen her again.
It's also a block from a BART station, so you can bip over from the city with ease and not have to worry about parking (or getting your car broken into). It's worth your $6.20 round trip from the city. Trusss, girl... truss....

Excellent salmon burger. YUM!
Fries... super meh... bland as hell.
Mini corn dogs tasted as expected.
Friends got the hamburgers and one said it was OK and the other said it was sub-par.
Overall, I'm giving Beep's a 4 stars, because I was lucky enough not to get a hamburger.
NOTES: It's cash only, only 3 outdoor barstools and picnic table. The whole place has a slightly grimy feel to it, but then again, the whole city does for that matter. Overall, it deserves a 4 stars from my experience.
I am not overly knowledgeable when it comes to making Korean stuff, but I can definitely shop in this market! Much of the food comes prepared, so throwing together a nice little dinner can't be that hard.
Plus you have to see the rows and rows of candy and junk food! So yummy...
The prices are mostly on an American level, which sucks, but some items are a good deal. Watch what you buy, but buy with gusto!
The neighborhood feels unsafe, so definitely lock your car doors and don't leave anything visible. I wouldn't say it feels dangerous, but you might get your car broken into if you left it in the hood overnight. Yikes! Darn Oakland for having such scummy areas.

Park Chalet

The awesome beers were on sale for $3 (yes, the stuff they make and yes all of them are on tap) and the fancy tacos were only $2.50. They have several options like steak flank, a (pulled?) pork, a marinated chicken and even some fish options. We ordered 1 each of the steak, the pork and the chicken. Though they got half the order right, the nice server brought out the rest of the steaks that we were missing and ended up with 2 free tacos for the mistake. YUM!
The steak flank was the best, followed by the pork, then the fried fish ones (that we didn't order, but are very tasty with a little squeeze of lime juice), and last was the chicken. Still, they were all great.
The beer: The wheat one is the best still in my mind, though I also had a Rip Tide Red.
They had a live band playing, and the place was packed--even up until we left around 9pm on yesterday's random Tuesday.
There's lovely outside seating as well as the very warmly designed interior area. I just love the Chalets!

On a bright sunny afternoon with just a mild ocean breeze blowing past, Park Chalet makes my top list for fun weekend afternoon spots.
Though I live within walking distance of this place and have been to Beach Chalet many times, I never had made it into Park Chalet. My loss entirely!
Some friends came over and once we decided that we were hungry, we decided to try Park Chalet. Like many others, it has been on my to-try list for over a year.
The place is gorgeous. It faces Golden Gate Park and actually sits nestled into it a bit. There was a live band playing, and the green house doors were open letting in the nice woodsy smell that was mixed with fresh ocean air. We went a couple hours after the lunch rush, but it was still hopping. Note to self: do not come during any meal rush, but preferably around this time--from 2-4pm. The parking lot was full, but we snagged a spot anyway. I can see why others complain, because this place does get busy. Poor Felicity M should go back, but heed my suggestion to aim for a non-meal rush period. Or just hit this spot after a few lovely hours at the beach (leaving car at beach parking lot).
Since the menu declares that the items listed are mostly a bunch of wonderful small plates, we ordered a few and shared the meal. To start, I had the light Belgian Wheat beer--not bad at all--nice, crisp, refreshing and appropriate for a warm, sunny day. To eat, we ordered onion strings, calamari, the white truffle macaroni and four cheeses, and a mushroom pizza.
Not a thing wasn't worth the full 5 stars. The only remotely imperfect thing was the calamari was on the edge of rubbery, but still quite in the enjoyable range. I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese and the onion strings. They were my favorite, but to be honest, it was hard to choose which I found my favorites.
Our server, whose name on the ticket is "Yuliya" was pleasant and endearing. She knew all the answers to our questions and was helpful in selecting beers. I did have a second beer--the Red Riptide. I knew it was good, since Beach Chalet serves it upstairs as well.
I shall return and bring friends! Next time, I may check out the picnic style eating in the back on the grass.

YUM! I've never graced Tart to Tart with a physical visit, but my carpooling buddy grabbed me some coffee and a fruit tart this morning. It's the multi-fruit one that had pineapple, some berries, kiwi and some small mandarin orange slices on top. The luscious and creamy base was perfect. I tried to savor this baby, but I gobbled it down in 2 minutes. The coffee was very smooth and AMPED me up. Subtle creeper, it is! But I'm ZOOOOOMING now.
(Where's the italics when I need them? "ZOOOOOOOM" really should be spelled in italics. Really.)
SCORE massive stars for the Russian beer that is about $1 less than at the average corner store! (happy dance!)
Now if only your drinking accessories weren't so overpriced... I had to go to IKEA to get gorgeous handmade and reasonably priced wine glasses. Still, I may be back for a wine aerator, darn you BevMo. ;-)
I LessThan3 you anyway.

Since my teen years, you've fallen off my map. "Pfft!" was generally what I thought.
So Mr Sexy Legs dragged me in here yesterday, and though most of your stuff didn't impress, I did snag 8 little porcelain tart cups. $1 each! Hellz yeah! I feel Julia Childs may be summoned quite soon.
Ok, so you offer some ragtag stuff that feels like it fell off a truck, and also offer some really nice stuff that is all overpriced, but occasionally you do surprise me with quality stuff that is priced darned right. Sure, I won't go out of my way to come and see you, but my opinion has been elevated from this last trip.
Date

It's nestled up in the foresty hills of Berkeley. For a City dweller, it was creepy as hell winding up a weird road to get there, but we found the place. It opened up like meadow on a mountain top.
The building is huge, the parking is plentiful, and the space is amazing. Take your kids. Take your fellow geeks. All will have a blast.
The globe thingy can have planets projected on it. Yes, it's HUGE! The detail is crisp and precise. I've never seen such aligned projection on a non-flat surface as good aside from the planetarium at the Academy of Science in the City.
