I've been here twice and the shaved ice is pretty good! It reminds me of shave ice in Hawaii, where it's soft/creamy instead of hard and chunky.

The lychee flavored one is so far my favorite, as the green tea shaved ice was a bit disappointing with some frozen melons on the sides. The lychee has some great bits of peanuts and a small is plenty to share with two people.

Would highly recommend this is you're looking for a late night treat (they close at 10pm on weekends) or a nice dessert when Paris Baguette is sold out.

I get my $$ here so no complaints there. On the other hand, the parking situation here is horrible on the weekend. Pulling into the lot with tons of cars backing up is a disaster.

My recommendation is the enter through the rear (he he) and you'll probably find a better spot in the back. If you're just going to the ATM, go through the front and just watch out for horrible drivers backing up.

In between the Jay Chou blasting on the stereo and the rice rocket convention you'll find outside on a Friday night, Sweetheart Candies has your typical boba drinks. $5 minimum for credit card last time I checked.

I got a soy green tea with boba and was pretty disappointed. Not sweet at all. The atmosphere is amenable to chatting for a bit, but if there's no place to sit I think it's more of a grab and go place. Of course, I don't think I'll be going here much in the future as it's just not that great.

Dim Sum King

A solid 4 stars. The assortment and availability of dim sum at all hours of the day is no easy feat and having fresh shu mai on hand is an asset I highly covet. Dim Sum King has recently jumped on the Jeremy Lin bandwagon and runs a $17 Linsanity Special. See the photos for the deal; it's not bad.

The orders here are around $2-3 for 2-3 items and you can definitely fill up for two by spending around $15. I was able to get shu mai, taro cakes, shrimp balls, and pork buns which was more than enough. I enjoyed the shu mai, but the pork buns weren't so tasty and the taro cake wasn't as fried as I prefer. Still, for the price, I'd definitely come back.

Good news is they take check. Plenty of vinegar, soy sauce, hot chili sauce to use if you eat there. They stuff the dim sum into styrofoam containers but I believe I saw a sign saying they'll give a discount if you bring in your own plastic containers. Cool!

If I can't wait for Sunday dim sum, I'd definitely come here again. Dim YUM!

London Heathrow Airport

I've flown through London a few times now it's my least favorite way to get to Ireland or India. I'd much rather fly through Singapore or Dubai, where the airport actually makes sense and you don't need to do a second security check.

Here's what to expect when you come here en route from an international flight.
- Get off plane in Terminal 5
- Go down a lot of escalators
- Hop onto a tram
- Go up a bunch of escalators
- Get you ticket/passport checked
- Go up an escalator
- Go through security
- Get groped by security
- Go down an escalator
- Sit around and don't buy anything in the designer shops since the dollar doesn't have much value these days
- Wait to see your flight announced on the screen
- Of course, it turns out it's in Terminal 5 again so...
- Go down an escalator
- Back on a tram
- Up more escalators
- Walk to gate
- Sit around with a lot of other disgruntled people who are anxious to get on a 10+ hour flight

I get that LHR wants you to buy food/gifts so they herd you to their shopping area, but it's a huge waste of resources and time to get you there. If it weren't for British Airways and their premium economy seats, I would smell ya later. Just wait until the country-run Emirates and Singapore Airlines put London off the map. Can't wait.

Roy M Butcher Dog Park

This is a fantastic dog park! I took my pug here for a Pug Meetup, which happens every first Saturday of the month. There are still lots of other cute dogs, but pugs galore. And that, my friends, is awesome.

The dog park is divided into two areas - small dogs (less than 40 lbs) and large dogs (more than 40 lbs). Not sure why 40 is the number but I'll go with it. Both sides have astroturf which is great for the dogs to run around on while staying relatively clean. There's a few benches to sit on but good luck finding a space, since it's usually pretty full of people and dogs!

I think the owners who periodically come here make this a great place though. The ground is well maintained and people bring their own chairs and balls. It does get a bit crowded on the weekends, but hey, if it tires out your dog, it's a success!

Major props to Yelp and Yelpers for recommending this place. I came here for lunch on a Saturday after an epic Pug Meetup at nearby Butcher Park and was not disappointed.

The food here was delicious and worth the price. My carne asada burrito was bang on and surprisingly filling, despite being smaller than those gigantic Chipotle burritos I'm used to. My wife's mole was also excellent and the side of refried beans were delicious.

The salsa bar on the side has some good sauces. I usually try 'em all, but it would be nice if the sauces were labeled so you knew what was spicy and what was mild. That way I can go straight for the spicy.

Service is fantastic. You get free chips and you can get refills if you want. Would come here again!

Lee's Sandwiches

A solid three stars. Their sandwiches are delicious and my wife gives me her peppers which I will pile onto my sandwich in an attempt to be manly and then subsequently regret it but c'est la vie. For the price and quality, you can't go wrong with the sandwiches.

I would, however, avoid the packaged items. The shrimp spring rolls always look oh so delicious, but they're probably been sitting out all day and the shrimp + Vietnamese rice paper wrapping doesn't have a long shelf life. The peanut sauce also tastes a bit watered down. I always find myself reaching for one but then this small voice in my head reminds me to avoid it.

For convenience sake, I'd say you can't go wrong if you want to satisfy your Vietnamese sandwich craving. Takes credit card too!

I fumbled with "Jumbo Jack combo" and just said "Jumbaco" and the order went through. Well done, Jack in the Box marketing team.

Seiya Japanese Restaurant

3.0 star rating

I feel bad about the three star rating, but when you have a 5 star scale and you try to eat at nice places as much as possible, something's gotta give and Seiya doesn't make the cut on several points.

Overall, I had a nice meal, but the defining factor for me is if I would come back again. To that point, it's a no. Why?

1. The place is too damn small. I like small restaurants when they feel romantic, but the modern/sleek minimalistic environment doesn't work for this. The couple we were next to was visibly uncomfortable with us sitting near them and the next couple that took their place asked to be moved when a table further away opened up. And no, it's not because we didn't take a shower or our dinner conversation was filthy. It's really just a small place.

2. Dishes were hit or miss. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Great Balls of Fire. In fact, we got that twice. On the other hand, the scallop sashimi wasn't well cleaned. The fish tacos are surprisingly awesome as well.

3. Portion sizes were also a bit random. The Hulk roll is pretty huge while great balls of fire is much smaller. Not that I would have appreciated more consistency, but when the prices are within the band of 1-2 dollars, you would think everything would be equal in terms of money for calories.

4. Nice sake list. The warm sake is pretty inexpensive and warmed us up during the meal.

Again, it's not a bad place, but nor is it stellar. I did like the food but some of the other factors of the restaurant were a bit of a turnoff.

I would say if you live near San Carlos definitely check it out. However, I would liken Seiya to En, Tanto, Gochi in the South Bay and on that point it doesn't come close.
