I go here for one reason: the Amberjack sushi.
It suckerpunches you in the taste buds.

The salmon manytimes is butter-melt-in-your-mouth.

The ambiance is non-existent. Service sometimes slow if busy.
I've only been here for lunch with co-workers.

I went there today, had the Amberjack, and i'm still thinking about it.
If I could afford it, I'd come and order it everyday.

As a poor college student, this joint's happy hour was my sushi salvation.  Great tasty deals, awesome alcoholic concoctions.

Then they found the owner's hidden video camera in the women's bathroom.  Yoinks!

I was so disappointed and upset.

Disappointed and upset because they closed down and I had nowhere else to go.

A couple months later, with new ownership and a new name (formerly Pango) they re-opened, and thankfully, the happy hour was still there, as well as the tasty sushi and drinks.

So the lesson here is...

sushi:  good
hidden video camera: bad

It is here where I finally discovered that if you whisper into your glass of Guinness long enough, it will eventually whisper back. But in German.

I recently asked a new 'friend' of mine where else besides Ki's can I find a san diego area organic foods restaurant.  But I will ignore her answers because I have eyes only for Ki's Restaurant.  My dear Ki's Restaurant, I will never betray you, I will never besmirch you, I will never laugh if you accidentally trip and fall down. Also, I will never shed tears for anyone else.  Only your food could ever do that to me, especially your curry dish when paired with tasty organic wine, or your seafood pasta potpourri that sometimes I have dreams about, a dream where we frolic together on the seashore barefoot wearing rolled-up khakis and long-sleeved white collared shirts, holding hands, splashing foamspray, and waving back to the Ki's diners as they watch us from the restaurant balcony.  Ki's Restaurant, we can never just be friends.  You will be in my heart forever girl.  For reals.

Hit the happy hour and order their cajun clam chowder.  It will rock you like a hurricane.  In a streetfight, this chowder will put the beatdown on any other chowder around.  No doubt.

Most people come here at 2:01am cuz it's open, easy to stumble to, and the food is cheap.  Most never scroll their eyes down the menu to the "pricier" SPECIAL items ($6).  In this section there is an item called the "Quesadilla Especial."

It is more than  a quesadilla.  It is a veritable monster that will appear to your drunken eyes the size of a mexican midget wrestler.

Imagine 2 large flour tortillas stacked and laid flat, separated by hot melted cheese (quesadilla part).  BUT then as it lays, use it to make a super carne asada burrito with guacamole, rice, etc.

It will totally pile drive your stomach & taste buds into feeling "especial."  Take it home and wash it down with a tag team of room temperature beer and cool ranch doritos.

This is my favorite restaurant.

It holds a supremely special place in my heart.

"This is an environmentally sustainable alternative restaurant choice, offering vegan and vegetarian, as well as Audubon-recommended seafood, organic free range chicken, and raw-live food specialties."

Don't bother going to this place unless you got a eulogy prepared.  It's now a condo unit, and the world is probably a better place for it;  but for the 2 years that I lived in Austin, "The Rhino" was my favorite place to get 25cent buffalo wings and semi-cheap Shiner.  I can almost smell the day-old beer wafting from the un-mopped floors.

I still have my Easy Rhino t-shirt we won by knowing the most names for 'breasts' in one of their weekly trivia contests.  "Bazongas" clinched it for us.

Rest in Peace, Easy Rhino...

I almost got into a fight with some snobby arty-farty Film grad student that I had just met there with other friends, who seemed to be complaining that i was hogging the beer, when it was a pitcher that I had bought for myself.  He was snide about it, and I'm surprised I didn't deck him right there.

N-E-Wayz, long-story-short, we later had a confrontation at a UT crosswalk, he swore it was a case of mistaken identity, "miscommunications,"  a year later, we're roomates in a 2bdr, and became good friends.

The Showdown, indeed.
