Anyway, I enjoy their food and the family-feel of this restaurant-- but the prices are a little expensive considering their pasta isn't amazing. The bread is pretty good. But in the end, it's an overpriced meal to me.

Studio Diner
Categories: American (Traditional), Diners
Neighborhood: Kearny Mesa
So I picked up my friend and off we went to search for Studio Diner in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.
We got the huge appetizer combo platter, my friend got mac and cheese (or as he says, "classy mac and cheese") and I got the T-bone steak meal.
Hefty portions. Hot wings were okay, I enjoyed the jalapeno sticks (they're not that spicy to me, but I had never tried such a thing before). The food overall was satisfying but not spectacular. And the service.. well, sure it was four in the morning, but the service was nothing amazing.
A memorable experience, to be sure, but not exactly amazing. A good alternative to Denny's.

I had the kuro ramen; my brother had tonkotsu with combo B. The potstickers and California rolls with the combo were average. But they have free kimchi! This is a big plus. Seeing kimchi sold as a side for $3 elsewhere makes me sad.
The ramen was pretty good, but I expected the noodles to be ... different. Of a better quality, perhaps. Overall the soup was delicious, though. Friendly service, though sometimes absent-minded (we had to ask for a to-go cup twice).
Downside: The soup from the kuro ramen splashed onto my new shirt... fml.

Their Kahlua flavor actually has some of the alcohol flavor. Wow.
Their taro flavor... is tart? And doesn't really taste like taro to me. Neither does their mango flavor.
They have jackfruit! I had never had jackfruit before!
Lots of fruit toppings, which are cool. Price is reasonable (35 cents per ounce). But the texture is indeed rather watery compared to some other places. Service (well, it was self-serve) was okay.

Mmm, massage oil...
Mmm, aloe lip treatment...
Mmm, free "$13 value shower gel" with $25 or greater purchase.
Mmm, no animal testing.
Mmm, values.
Oh, and the saleswoman who helped us also gave us an extra sample of a little bit of body scrub! Hurrah.
The prices are a little steep considering it isn't amazing food. The Thai hot wings weren't so hot, and the waitress forgot to ask if my friend wanted rice with her curry. Service was okay, they refilled our water consistently, but nothing was particularly outstanding about the experience. 3 stars for 3 Thai.

I've endeavoured to seek out every single one I could find, so you know this proclamation bears authority.
This store is not only clean with a nice atmosphere and good selection (prices are comparable but moderate) but as I walked in, there was UVERworld playing (one of my favorite bands). And the rest of the soundtrack to my shopping experience was also enjoyable. Yay for happy Japanese pop/rock music.
They're the only place at which I've been able to find "Better Than Bouillon", oddly enough. I hadn't been able to find it anywhere else (and I'm a grocery store monster, that's my idea of an enjoyable afternoon: shopping for food).
All in all, a very pleasant experience. I've pinpointed it as my go-to grocery store for Japanese deliciousness.
(Also, they have their own cooking/food magazine, for free! Awesome.)

Wings N Things
Category: Chicken Wings
Neighborhood: Mira Mesa
But Wings N Things came closer than other attempts (ehh PB Hooters). Their bread sticks are indeed an excellent source of concentrated simple carbohydrates. I like that it comes with breadsticks and veggies. The bleu cheese sauce is okay.. could use more bleu cheese, really. The wings themselves... not that hot, and I would have preferred if they could have been breaded.. I wish they had listed the flavors/sauces on their menu, because I didn't even know they had garlic ones. All in all, the wings are alright.
Service was nothing to comment on. I enjoyed overhearing the table full of boys next to me. One of them was talking about how he used to choke his girlfriend during sex to maximize pleasure. "You're sick," replied his friend. All this while I was attempting to just eat my dang wings and read Jane Austen (out of necessity, not choice).

Date

But it pains me more to give more than one star to such an unsatisfying meal.
To be fair, the owner is really nice and personable.
But... if you want authentic Chinese food, don't come here.
The prices are reasonable, the portions are paltry if you want to eat family style. The restaurant is obviously catered towards American tastebuds; the food is bland and tasteless (not lacking in saltiness-- in fact, a lot of it was too salty-- but without any flavor).
We were charged for tea even though we didn't know it cost anything (it wasn't on the menu, and most Chinese restaurants don't charge for tea). When we brought it up, the owner just told us that's how it always was. We also were unsuccessful in requesting that the tofu be fried for a few seconds.
And fyi in case you like to order in Chinese, there is no Chinese menu.
I can see why others like it, but my family and I left the restaurant physically full but still hungry. I give one star almost out of pity. Maybe others would enjoy it, but I definitely will not be returning.
