Bilingual staff - Check
Hard to find items - Check check ( I found two wedding dresses here, classic ones though!)
It was well-organized and staff was attentive. One lady came right up as I peered curiously over the glass cabinet. Got myself a cheap $2 pearl bracelet and a $6 dress for my Halloween outift! (Hell yeah! )
I wanted to "hold" my dress while I go to Salvation Army down the road, but was only given an hour's grace. :( Other than that, I loved the place! Definitely check out this place when you need outfits for parties!
Tip-bits:
Fitting rooms on the sides and down the middle by the shoes
Huge selection of clothes
Parking is tricky but negotiable
Fruit-sellers outside the store
We walked in on a Sunday morning about 5:30am...and the only sober, awake, happy service staff awaited us at Denny's. Service was prompt and good.
I ordered myself a French Slam...french toast never tasted so good! But then again, it could be the post-drinking hunger. No problem splitting the check up front.
The thing about chain restaurants is...they all taste the same. The only distinction would be service. In this case, all greasy Denny's food is yummy when you have been drinking all night!
Tip-bits:
Seniors 55 and over get 20% of senior meals, Monday to Friday 7am-10pm
Bring receipt and get 50% of 2nd entree when you order 2 entrees and 2 beverage (Mon to Fri 4pm-11pm)
That being said, I loved this place! Post- Happy Hour UYE, we went for MORE beer, of course! And we ended up at DRB! Beer-loving drinkers who are open and liberal and chilling at one spot, hell yeah!
Yelpers hijacked a table that left, and started randomly picking up empty bottles for beer suggestions! Others perused the menu/passport for world beers, and some of the girls settled for fruit beers from Belgium, raspberry lambic framboise, peach L.F and banana L.F!! Some of the guys had beer from India and really liked it.
So there's a beer for everyone at DRB!
Ordering food was a nightmare though...probably because there were only two bartenders, and a small kitchen overwhelmed with orders. No meat pie on first try, 30-45 min wait on beef sliders...which one of the bartenders had to question me about before "feeding" me. And because there was only two bartenders, they avoided eye contact as they made sure they got orders right..by candlelight. You needed to be persistent.
It's a cool and fun place if you aren't an uptight a** about getting your food on time, or hollering for your bartender. :)
Tip-bits:
$10 parking to the side, sweet talk to attendant for free parking and then tip him! (*wink* Jorge R.)
Friday UYE Happy Hour after one/two week of J.C's grand opening, it felt like a private company party! I must admit I was enjoying the exclusivity of the place, apart from a couple random strangers in the back corner...I was extremely HAPPY! All my favorite Yelpers were there for a good time, met some new Yelpers (Beatrice) ...reconnected with some old ones ( Cynthia who is now my mentor! :) ) and took crazy pix with picture-whoring Yelpers!
Aside from the great company, the drinks were not memorable. They didn't have anything on draft...yet. Chicken strips and fries were greasy fried goodness! :)
They had a weekly schedule, printed on postcards...ask the bartender for one when you go. But this is the breakdown:
Mondays -- Karaoke & Monday Night Football
Tuesdays -- Poker Night
Wednesdays -- Jazz & Blues
Thursdays -- Ladies Night & Live Music
Fridays -- Ladies drink free (vodka & rum) from 4-8 pm
Saturdays-- Live Music
Sundays "In the Biz Specials" & Football
Tip-bits:
Parking a bit tricky, but street parking ends at 6pm! :)
Intersection of 22nd St and 22nd Ave, on the same side as the gas station
14 people, they took reservations and decided to sit us on the second floor...on the ground. ( I am unsure if the girl who made the call wanted to sit on the floor or it just happened that way). We all managed to cram in and the waitress was very patient as we all pondered over the menu. Being the only Asian at the table, I advised people on dinner choices, and everyone was extremely pleased. The waitress actually recognized me...and was very sweet, she changed my sashimi dinner order to ALL white tuna sashimi with brown rice, with no extra charge! Dessert got everyone talking...since we ordered a chocolate lava cake and everyone was fighting for it! One girl had to order it to go for her boyfriend...(but she ended up eating a few bites before she left!) Check time was a breeze, waitress was very efficient and split the check accordingly.
Good, fresh food...great service. It's worth the drive! :)
Tip-bits:
If you make reservations, request for table seating on the first floor if you have long legs and don't like sitting on the ground. I had cramps many times during dinner time. :(

Green Tea Creme Brulee! Need I say more?!?!?!?!?!?!? :)
You know that feeling when you meet the man of your dreams and you find out you both lived really close by in the past, or that you had mutual friends from high school...but you never met because of missed opportunities...till now???? This is how I feel about Shibui...I used to live around the area but I never got the chance to check out this place that I've heard so much about...because they are not open for lunch! And all my friends wouldn't drive that far to have sushi with me in Kendall...but tonight was THE night.
I tried calling to make reservations but the line was busy. So i drove over and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for two. I ended up sitting at the bar, which was completely fine by me. We walked up and there were 4 japanese sushi chefs at the bar, I come to find out they are Peruvian Japanese. Older gentlemen spoke Spanish...didn't hear any Japanese from them, but they sure as hell looked Japanese.
Onto the food:
Hamachi kama - $6.95. A pretty big piece which wasn't too cooked on the inside..it was sent back to the kitchen and came out all cooked and delish.
Dynamite roll and Louisana roll - $6.95 each, 6 pieces each. The scallop in the dynamite roll was so fresh and the sushi was very well-rolled, tight and compact. The Louisiana roll was rolled inside-out, a different taste from your regular shrimp tempura/crab/spider roll, it's crawfish! :)
Sashimi (15-18 pieces)- $19.95, my friend loved loved it. The white tuna was buttery and melted in your mouth
Green tea creme brulee- $4.95 for this goodness, I wish I had the balls to order a to-go. It's my first time having it..and I loved how it made the creme brulee almost diabetic-friendly! :) A MUST-ORDER...on weekends!
Decor:
First floor were regular tables, good for bigger group. The second floor was Japanese style, sitting on the floor. Not good for older people who have trouble getting down or girls in skirts. The sushi bar is upstairs with about 10-12 seats? 1 or 2 screens good for football watching. There's a dining area behind by the sushi bar...which I believe is ground-sitting too!
I LOVE LOVE this place! The value for money....it's ridiculous, considering how this place is only open for dinner! The food is fresh, the menu is extensive and the service is great. Waiter made sure we had hot tea at all times. It was a great dinner experience after all! :)
Tip-bits:
Open only for dinner
Beside the gas station on 102 Ave...off Sunset Drive, 72 St
Ample parking
Reservations recommended
Creme brulee made only on weekends, ask for it...it ain't in the menu
Green tea with brown rice- complimentary
6 people, 3 couples. Service was slow due to the craziness, but they came around. Skillet queso = yuck, cajun chicken pasta = spicy chicken, not-hot pasta (we ordered 3 cajun chicken pastas at the table), molten chocolate cake = only saving grace.
Beers inside were 2 for 1...so that help to pass time as our waitress came by...every 30 minutes?? During the time I was there, plates were being dropped left and right. For a second there, I thought I was in a Greek restaurant!
Why do I bother to give Chili's a chance? I hated it from long time ago..and I remember why now.
Tip-bits:
Better American Chain restaurants in the same plaza
Go if you are a cheap date
Tip-bits:
Prepare to wait close to an hour during lunch times
Park in the front...if you are lucky enough to find any
Park across the street, metered parking
In the small plaza beside Havana Harry's
Entrees we had were on the lunch menu. My classmate got the fried chicken chunks, very good! I got the chicken fricasse, it wasn't what I expected but still tasty. The stew peas I got as a side sucked so I left it.
And when it was time to pack leftovers, they charged us for the boxes?!? I wasn't pleased.
I do like the Piononos, and the food's been decent. Until I find another PR place. It might have to suffice.
Tip-bits:
They charge for to-go boxes...$0.30/0.35 cents a box!?
Lunch specials for $7.95/ 6.95
Service is slow, maybe on island time?

I went there with my co-worker today for lunch...she's born and raised in Puerto Rico and said this place is amazing...and I have to pretty much agree!!! :) Simple layout...a mom and pop place which opened at 12noon for lunch. They have a lunch menu printed on the last page of the menu...but we got distracted by the yumminess in the front!
3 of us had:
- 2 Pionono / Ripe Plantain wrap around Ground Beef
-Bistec con Salsa Criolla, Arroz Blanco y Habichuelas Guisadas / Beef Steak Topped in Creole Sauce with White Rice & Red Stewed Beans
- Mofongo con Camarones al Ajillo / Mofongo with Shrimp *(Sauté in Garlic & Butter)
- Flan De Leche-Vainilla ó Queso / Vanilla or Cheese Custard
- 1 Coke
Total bill without tip: $44...not bad for 3 people!
I enjoyed the pionono the most...the ground beef was seasoned to perfection...with the ripe plantain outside. Omg...I should have taken some to go!!
I am surprised that other reviews are so-so for this place. My PR co-worker did mention how certain dishes were made a bit different from her grandmother's style..or it was called somethine else. But you cannot possibly expect the place to serve you food that you can simply make at home right????
Definitely a fan of this place, and it's located right across from FIU!!! :)
Tip-bits
Service wasn't super fast, but it was slow.
Waiter did come check on us...he's was very pleasant.
Pionono!!! YUMMMMYYY!!!
There's a bar area but I am not sure if it's a full bar.
I've been here about thrice now...and each time, hot, cute and probably gay and very nice bartender is patient as I deliberate which beer I want from the beer wall of fame behind him...and I hand him a $5 (maybe $6 if he's really cute and sweet) and I'm out to laugh/gawk/stare at the people who walk by on Lincoln Rd!
I love how laid back and chill this place is amongst the euro-trash shops and snobby dining places on Lincoln Rd. It's a breathe of fresh air...inside, until you sit and inhale second-hand smoke with fellow beer-drinkers outside! :)
Tip-bits:
They check ID as you go in...and then each time you go in for more beers.
Expired IDs don't count
$4 beers
No 18% gratuity, so tip the bartenders well!
Date

First time going in, "no cameras allowed"!!! I was like.."woah, what is this? the Pentagon?" I went in...red dim lights, furry plush throws, rugs on the wall, zebra in front by the band set, pool table in the back..and of course, the picture of lesbian love acts and naked black women...this place deserved to be experienced, not captured on film. :)
Second time, I felt like I was spotting http://www.latfh.com stars. I had to walk in like I own it...and it didn't matter, no one cared! Everyone was just having a good time by themselves, good grooves that has everyone moving and grinding. I love that they have the band set free for all to try their hand at. ( please be halfway decent if you decide to go up!)
I can't say much about the drinks...except I was told they are cheap. Dress like a f-ing hipster, if not...just fake it...either way, everyone's a rock star when you walk under that lone red awning through the magic white door. Come here with your posse, kick back and chill out. But remember spread the word to your people, but only YOUR people.
Tip-bits:
Plenty of parking in the lot or on the street
Clean victorian-ish bathrooms (Ladies is in the main area, Men's is along the entrance hallway on the right when you come in!)
No cover, at least on Friday nights
