We were looking for a place to get a beer and some good food with my boyfriend's family in Huntersville and stumbled upon Killingtons, and I am glad we did.  They have a small but concise beer menu, including Oskar Blues Gordon's Ale, which is a rare find on tap.  The food was perfect from appetizers to entrees.  

We had the toasted ravioli as an appetizer.  The cheese inside the ravioli was delicious, not to melty, not oily like some cheese can get when hot.  

I ordered a Caesar salad because I they make all their dressing in house.  I was expecting a small but well made salad.  Out comes this gigantic bowl of salad with every single piece of lettuce perfectly coated with dressing and Asiago & Parmegiano Reggiano cheeses.  I was so full from the huge salad that I had a hard time eating my entree!  

I ordered the Killingtons Dip, a French Dip with Au Jus.  They use medium rare top round and it tasted like it was just sliced.  It was perfect.  The Waitress said it was their most popular menu item and I can understand why.  I got the fries as a side, which were double fried, soft yet crispy.  

My boyfriend had the bacon encrusted meatloaf sandwich with mushroom gravy and homemade chips which he thoroughly enjoyed.  The chips were also wonderful, crunchy but not greasy.

Everyone at the table was so pleased with their food that the next morning they suggested seeing if Killingtons served breakfast!

Our server was wonderful and patient with us.  It's a great place to grab a beer, watch a game on one of the numerous flat screen tvs or take your family out for dinner.  The menu is varied, from burgers to Grand Marnier spaghetti.   I just wish it was closer to us in Uptown!

Go for the panini's.  I know it's a pizza place, but stick with me.  Their Turkey Panini was out of this world.  melting brie oozing out, perfect crunchy exterior/soft interior bread, the rasperry aoili was perfect ...and the beer list is great, although I had the same problem others have had, I struck out twice in a row ordering a beer because they didn't have it.

I have spent many Wednesday nights at the Common Market for their fantastic beer tastings.  Tommy does an excellent job of bringing in interesting microbrews from around the world for everyone to try.  The Common Market routinely gets beers before anyone else in the Charlotte area.  The selection is hard to beat and is always changing.  The staff are wonderful and attentive and know their beers!  And yes, there are hipsters galore, but when there's good beer, who cares?

Any place that claims to be an Irish Pub and serves instant mashed potatoes with their Shepherd's Pie should not be frequented.  

I was very dissapointed in the service (we were there for almost and hour and I never got a refill) and the food was sorely lacking.  I could care less that the girls were barely dressed, for the price of the food and beer I was expecting much better food, but alas, it's just a Hooter's with less clothes and worse food.

I was hoping this would be another great addition to the numerous Irish themed restaurants and bars but given the prices and the quality of the food, even though I work a stones throw away, I won't be going back.

I picked up a devil's food cake for my boyfriend's birthday from Maxie B's & was extremely disappointed.  The cake was at least a week old, the icing was crumbling & breaking, the cake was beyond dry & there was absolutely no decorative touch on the cake, not even edging where the cake met the cake board.  It was absolutely not worth the $38 dollars.  no one ate more than a few bites of their slice of cake.  Do yourself a favor & buy a $1.62 box of cake mix & make your own.  I used to love their carrot cake but I will most definitely not be going back.

We walked the Sierra Loop with our two dogs & while it was dicey getting to the trail at first (no signs to begin with) once we found the trail everything was well marked.  It's one of the better trails in the area in terms of being well marked & being somewhat challenging.

As far as I can tell Big Ben's is the only place in Charlotte that has a proper dry English Cider which alone puts it above the crowd.  The food is light years better than most pub food around.  I had the English Bangers & man they are tasty!  Watch out for their mustard though!  It's very dry & very very spicy.  I have heard wonderful things about their breakfast but haven't had a chance to try it out.  

The Patio area is wonderful.  It's large & they have lot's of tables that can be combined for larger groups.  There's a great mix of people as well.  

The service was excellent, one of the better waitresses we've had in Charlotte.   We had a dog with us & the waistaff doted on him.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal.  I will definitely be stopping by more often.

I have been to Sir Edmond Halley's on a few occasions & I have had terrible service every single time.  The first time we got our first round swifty but waited over an hour for our second round.  The second time we waited 45 minutes to even get served & then another hour and half to get a second round.  The food is mediocre at best, tasteless & bland even for British food.  The only thing it has going for it is location -- you can get a decent pint & "pub grub" without the hassle of going uptown.

It's great to have a place like the dog bar in Charlotte, even if you don't have a dog!  They offer drink  specials & always participate in the NoDa Gallery Crawls.   There is a front Patio with bench seating for you & your dogs & an inside bar area with a Wii.  For 1st timers take your dogs on a Sunday when it's quiet & the drinks are cheap.  

side note: Just make sure your dogs do not have problems with XL dogs like Great Danes, there are always at least 3 or more there.

Do yourself a favour & check out Big Daddy's for Sunday brunch.  Yes, go to a burger joint for brunch.  They have the best omelets around.  It's just like their burgers - build your own.
