Normally I'd shy away from anything with "The American" in the name (have you ever been to an airport in a fly-over state?) However, this place is well worth the adventure. While pricey, the food is delicious.
I recommend the Jalapeno Popper Sandwich, Pickle, and Tomato Soup.
Oh, and don't forget one of their house-made (notice how I didn't say 'home' made?) sodas, hibiscus-orange, black-cherry, the choice changes weekly.

just ate here for lunch, being their second day the service still had some kinks, but the wild boar pizza and cup of coffee i had were excellent.
i would definitely go back here and try a sandwich and wouldn't hesitate to go here for coffee above all the other places in soma (save philz).

granted i am a fat american, and given that i love bacon, park chow should be the de-facto place for me to eat. right? wrong. this place proves that too much bacon fat can ruin a meal. if you're looking for 'just alright' american food, or americanized food in the case of the 'thai noodles', come here. if you're pushing a stroller, come here. if there's no where else to eat on 9th and irving, and it's a cold night, come here.
oh, that reminds me, if any of you are enterprising enough, here's a business idea for you: weekends would be a great time to offer valet stroller parking outside of park chow, otherwise the corral of luxury baby sedans gets pretty outrageous, so watch your step.

i'm burnt out on all of the 'good enough' indian places in my neighborhood, like naan-n-curry, tasty curry, tika masala and masala, so i decided to try something outside of my neighborhood. I was not disappointed. not only was this place so amazingly delicious, my take out order was ready very quickly, the inside of this place looked very nice and wasn't too crowded (for a friday night in the mission i'd imagine that's rare). i'm definitely going to come back here and try eating-in just to experience the inside ambiance.

1) Straus Ice Cream, Caramel, Sea Salt & Olive Oil desert: I know, sounds weird, but was delicious, except for the part about forgetting our caramel.
2) Margherita Extra pizza: Delicious crust, except burnt on the outside and undercooked in the middle (do I really have to use a fork and knife?)
3) Service: Our waiter was helpful, staff was nice, but the bar was a bit slow.
4) Fried Chicken starter: Dry, but the spicy tomato sauce/ketchup was delicious. Granted we were at a pizza place, I didn't have extreme expectations here.
5) Stuffed Squash starter: Bland for my taste, similar sentiment as the Fried Chicken.
Final rating: 3 Stars - I wouldn't go back right away.
