Dear Khao Sarn,

I regret to inform you that you've been the talk of the town, especially among your regulars. You have GOT to stop having the band play in there. We have a code now... Meet outside of Khao Sarn, and if they have the band in there, call the others in the dinner party & go to standby regular restaurant #2. It's just too loud. It sucks. So when you have the band in there, we just pass you by. There's never been a problem with your food! I've passed you up at least 11 times now, because the band in there just doesn't work. Not that the band sucks (maybe they do), but live music played loudly really doesn't mix with the atmosphere & we've got to scream our conversations out, even when we're seated in the back, and well.... who needs that when they just want to eat dinner? Not us.

Yours truly,

A customer who cares & wants you back.

I'm really liking the appetizer & entree choices for omnivores & vegetarians, the $6 special cocktail menu, the service & the vibe would be great if...... Not a thing was wrong with our food, which we finished off happily. But I gotta say, the Sake Bombs have GOT to go! It's a little nerve wracking to have people pounding on tables & screaming "SAKE BOMB!" while you eat dinner. Ok, so it doesn't always happen, but if it does it sets off a trend throughout the place & then they're all doing these stupid frat boy drinking games. ANNOYING. Add that to the crippling awfulness of their choice in music & it perpetually keeps me on my toes for a new Thai place. The food is just not great enough for me to have to get used to that kind of annoying. But hey, until I find that place I'll be back to Khao Sarn & I'll be sure to numb myself out with some of their cocktails. $6 & they were delicious. You can't beat that.

Next level Mexican food! By right I should be taking off a star for the lack of communication from bartender to waitress, because there always seemed to be an awkward wait for drinks, but for the food alone I'd add on another few stars if I were allowed, so it really evens out....

My charming, handsome dinner date was in the know & insisted upon ordering the salsas to start. The salsa sampler (portioned for 2) made me feel a little stunted in my knowledge of salsa at all. These were extra special & definitely the best I've ever had the pleasure of trying. They were brought out by the chef who was very passionate & thorough in explaining the palate experience to come. Sophisticated salsas, one that even had a piece of wood steeped in it during preparation to infuse the flavor throughout. He took care in explaining what type of burn you would experience with each salsa and how each was prepared, and with what ingredients. From fresh, hot green salsas to sweeter pineapple based salsa, to smokey tasting salsa, it was all there. Phenomenal salsas! Start with that.

I didn't order the food, I wanted my dinner date to take the lead, so I can't remember the names of the dishes we shared & Mmmm'd our way through, and sadly, one creation I can't even explain the ingredients of. But it was delicious, I remember that much!

The main course was a seafood dish set atop a broth infused rice bed & came packed with seafoods of all varieties. There was crab, squid, scallops & mussels, all blended perfectly for a fantastic dinner experience that would definitely satiate your need for both flavor and appetite. This mixed perfectly with the setting-- candlelit under a gorgeous chandelier with a guitarist crooning romantic Spanish love songs. Just enough to whisk me away from the streets of Brooklyn for awhile & let a man sway me with his charms. Don't fear that it's too romantic by my description, because romance is 90% of who you're with & 10% of where you're with them... there was a large birthday party dining there, so it's good for groups, too.

I'm not sure if it's fair to rate this place after going in just once, for coffee, but I'm doing it anyway. First off, this place is confusing. I was lured in by the sign that touted "ORGANIC COFFEE." I wasn't looking for falafel, mind, I just wanted a decent cup of coffee to wake me up on a cold, snowy Sunday.

Walked in & met the most obnoxious smokey air, kinda greasy. Asked about the coffee... They had... coffee. Stacks of beans lined the shelf. No espresso, no lattes, caps, etc. Just COFFEE. Drip, I'm sure. Well, when you put it on your sign outside, I really expect it to be above average, because the sign means that you're boasting that you have it, so I expect you to have it together. Maybe they would fresh grind? Make it in a press? Maybe they would prepare a fresh cup? Something?

I got a large cup of what tasted like cheap tasting, stagnant gas station coffee that you're forced into accepting whilst on a road trip. Gross. It's really not hard to get coffee up to standards, so it kinda pissed me off. Keep it off of your sign unless you're going to churn it out properly. My company for the day ordered a piece of cake.... Another bad idea that I regretfully tasted. Definitely subpar & at least 2 days old. UGH.

I'll try the falafel one day, I guess, but never the coffee & desserts again.

Anchored Inn

I've gotta say, the word "metal" being mentioned throughout a few reviews really brought my desire to stop by the Anchored Inn to a grinding halt. Rock & Roll bar, OK... great, even, but I really don't want screeching metal bands blasting while I am trying to relax. Alas, I finally bit the bullet & went in....

Happy to report that it is way more of a rock & roll bar than a metal bar, and a good rock & roll bar, but that's not what makes it so great. Nope. They offer up an excellent choice of beers in bottles (Scrimshaw Pilsner is one of my kind), in cans & draft beers pouring from taps that certainly tasted clean to me. There's also a full liquor bar. Bartenders are all really nice, too. But wait, because it gets better.....

Food! I don't know who is cooking back there, but this is some kinda next level bar food. That burger sincerely deserves an award. It was like 2 sliders piggy-backed on top of one another, and served on the perfect seeded bun with some kind of chipotle dressing. Calling it delicious kinda cheapens it, so my apologies to the chef, but really... it was probably the most enjoyable burger that I've tasted in years.  They serve it with a heaping amount of fries, too. On weekends there's a burger special that was running until 8pm. These are my kind of people. Not everyone can make brunch by 4pm, but the Anchored Inn has the answer for the late waking hangover clan. $12.00 got me a burger w/ fries & a choice of draft beer, or a Bloody Mary included in the price. You just can't beat that. Had to try the Bloody Mary.... Perfectly seasoned, rimmed glass & garnished with olives & spicy pickled beans. It was a little different than your regular Bloody Mary, a bit more smoky, or a tad of barbecue flavor, maybe, different, but great. All Bloody Marys are not created equal, and most bartenders around here don't know how to make a delicious Bloody Mary at all. These people have it down.

So they've won me & I've been back a few times now & will continue to eat my way through their menu. Have also tried the spicy peanuts, squash soup & the pickle plates (pickled, spiced veggies) a few times with no disappointments. They've got a few decent vegetarian items (veggie torta), so it's a safe bet for all.

Yeah, I gave it another shot. It was a bad decision. Moo Shu... on their specialties list! But I've had the pork, so I knew to steer from that & went with chicken. The chicken tasted boiled, no seasoning, no prep, and just chucked in with the greasy subpar noodle. Once again, I should have just burned my money on the sidewalk out front. Never doing that again. Mess it up once, I can understand. Mess it up twice & I know this restaurant is for the taste bud-less masses. Eww.

I had a feeling that this place was going to be overrated, so I stuck with something that I thought couldn't be messed up. Sweet & Sour Pork. How could you mess that up? Greasy corner dives can make this turn out tasty, so this place has got to be better, right?

WRONG! Probably the cheapest cuts of pork that I've ever had the displeasure of putting in my mouth. Seriously. And to top it off, most of the dish wasn't even pork to begin with... Some pork with a pool of pineapple & green pepper. So I was unhappy with the quality and the quantity & I ended up leaving hungry!

My friend said that hers sucked, too & that we should have just burned our money on the sidewalk & left it there, because that's what it felt like happened. Gorgeous backyard, but if you can't even feed people an average grade of pork, I don't want anything from you ever again.

I take it all back. I saw the owner on NY Ink & he's totally hot! Like, 5 star hot. That will sway me back to my original review, before the fire incident. Also, to be fair, they did get in touch with me after my horrid review, because they did care about lazy staff & they have rectified all that poor staffing nonsense.

Not only that, but ever since I left the one star, I still order from Pops & visit from time to time... I just use a fake name so that they won't recognize my name from Yelp. *hangs head in shame* Anyway, is what it is. Late night comfort & junk food. And now this is a full circle fair review.

I was swayed for a minute, I'll admit it. I liked the junk food & I kept going back, but I've certainly met my limit. First of all, that music has got to go. It's always the worst crap that you can ever imagine. I've contemplated making a mix for places like this, but I gotta say- I seriously doubt that their tin ears would appreciate good things. Obnoxiously AWFUL music.

Secondly- their staff has got to be the worst hired team in America. Sloppy idiots. I don't even know if I can describe this accurately.... Oh wait...... A guy is sleeping at one of the tables. I think he's the delivery guy. A member of the kitchen staff comes out & tries to light him on fire. Seriously. Lighter, full flame, guys arm. I ain't going back until I hear about a change in staff & music. I really hate this place now. TSK!

It's a Junk Food joint. That's what it is. A little wooden shack in Brooklyn filled with junk food & comfort food for next to nothing. On the menu I spy Grilled Cheese, BLT, PB&J, Onion Rings, Grilled Corn (w/ cilantro butter!), veggie dogs AND ALL DAY BREAKFAST sandwiches all for under $3.50, so what's the problem?

I had an order of sliders (mini cheese burgers) for $3.50 that came dressed with horseradish & they hit the spot I had been longing to fill. They were delicious. I also had a side of onion rings that were nice & crispy, not too greasy. My boyfriend had a veggie burger that he Mmmm'd his way through & I took a good look at it. Definitely a REAL veggie burger & not some cooked from a package burger. He also had some just out of the oil chips with Pico de Gallo which I managed to sample & then wish they were my very own

I probably wouldn't advise coming from far away to catch this place, but if you live nearby & want THAT taste, this is as good as it gets- especially after some drinks! I'll definitely be back.

A tin can disguised as an airplane? A Flintstone Plane! That's it. I saw the Terradactyl wings, I'm positive. World's worst airline attendant who berated a man for no reason & then finally caught an attitude with me. I told her that she was "a beast of woman," and then re-nicknamed her "Dragon Lady." Awful, awful experience, and the chocolate chip cookies have an aftertaste of poison.

Never again!

Here comes Sheena B. raining on your NY pizza parade again... Yep.

Pizza Is Overrated. Extremely doughy crust, not cooked well enough. I had a margarita with anchovies. There was some taste, but not enough to thoroughly enjoy the pizza. I felt swollen with dough after eating it. The salad, however.... A radicchio, arugula, pear & gorgonzola salad with walnuts was well done. There was a hint of honey taste strewn throughout which mixed nicely with the olive oil & cheese.

I do get the feeling that they sold so many Groupons & they're so busy that they just can't focus on the quality of their pizza. I feel the same about the service, which was a total clusterf@#%. The people next to us ordered way before we did, yet they got their pizza long after us. And then they had to take one of their pizzas back to the kitchen to add the prosciutto which was a main feature of this guys pie. Huh?

Also, again, probably because they're packed out with too many Groupon buyers, but the space could use some help. It was SO loud, really.... The acoustics in there were bordering on violent. It started to drive me crazy. Between that, being crammed up next to some other diners & the servers who kept messing up & coming around to ask what we were waiting on, and then some pizza that was just OK???? Well.....

I think I'm being generous with 3 stars.... I think it's 2, but I feel like after the Groupon customers fade, we'll finally get to see what this place really has to offer. I'll visit then....

Gross. Another overrated place for people without taste buds. Really nice looking space & when you walk in it doesn't feel like you're on Bedford Avenue anymore. It was packed to the gills with people, but the meatballs? I couldn't even finish it & left it laying there between the cheap tasting bread that it came served on. Mine was meat with tasteless red sauce, my friend got the veggie & thought the same.

They DO have ice-cream sandwiches, though-- like proper heaps of ice-cream served inside of real cookies & I could try that.... will I? I don't know. Save your money & get a meatball hero at your favorite pizza parlor. Don't believe the hype. It's just some crappy meatballs that are packaged nicely & marketed correctly. Sure, it looks pretty good, but the reality is that it's not.

This chef is throwing down some seriously tasty food from the grill. I uploaded a photo of the "Crispy Chicken Biscuit," and that alone will probably be enough to get you down there. Delicious food & being served at really fair prices. I've had the duck liver boudin balls, the barbecue oysters & the deviled eggs, too. Next stop is the peel & eat shrimp + the spicy cajun corn. Yum! Stop missing out! They also give you a free bag of chips from NOLA, unsure of brand, guessing it's popular there.

They set up in d.b.a's (williamsburg) backyard on Sundays 2-7pm & Bar Halyard's on Saturday nights from 6-11pm (too far for me). They're also at d.b.a (williamsburg) for Oyster night on Thursdays. They have a Facebook which is updated regularly, so check for times & locations: http://www.facebook.co...

I'm seriously considering getting married just so that I can bribe Tchoup Shop into catering my wedding.... Alas.....
