oh wow, I hadn't bumped this place up to five stars yet? well, I think it has certainly earned it. i've been here more times than i can count, and it is consistently good. in fact, we eat here pretty much at least once a week, sometimes more. i like to adventure and try new places, but... once you've found someplace really good, it's hard to go someplace you aren't sure about to spend your money.
even though Yokoso consistently has very brisk business and carry out, both the service and food quality are superior. the rolls are all very good, especially the ones with sauces. they are presented so well, too. the miso is good. the rice is good. the udon is good. even the desserts are spectacular.... not sure what it is called, but it is some sort of "banana split" with mango ice cream and very delicately fried bananas. yum. our favorite server, Anna, always remembers our preferences, and seems to remember other customers as well. in fact, it seems like quite a few of the customers are regulars.
we love to watch the food network, and restaurant and cooking shows, and i think that they could profile this place as a perfect model of a successful restaurant. i wish i could buy stock in it.
only minus might be that the prices are a little steep (about $11ish bucks for a "special" roll and about $6.50 for a regular roll). but, like i said earlier, it's nice to go someplace and spend your money where you know you'll leave satisfied, especially these days where everyone is pinching their pennies. -

Really good. Will have to return a few times to make sure it is consistent before we give it 5 stars though. Been trying a lot of local sushi places lately, and I think so far this is our favorite in the Walnut Creek area. Modern decor, clean, large rolls. Also some creative different choices. Rice was good too. Service was good and they kept the tea refills coming. OMG roll is really spicy, as advertised. Oh, and easy parking too.

The rolls are on the smaller side, but that is also reflected in their very inexpensive price. They aren't the monster western-style rolls that some places have, but they are also from $3-$7, instead of $9-$12. That allows you to sample more rolls. The fish seems very fresh. They have some unique roll ideas that I had not seen before, like the "Grace" roll, with tuna and raw onions. I thought it was a good idea and very tasty. They also have plum and mint rolls, which I like, and a lot of places don't have them. The spicy rolls are very spicy, and the spice is placed sort of on top of the roll and not mixed in with chopped fish, as is typical. The rice was good, with nice individual kernels, and not all mushy. But, some of the rolls were not rolled as tightly as might be optimal. The salad was fresh and the dressing was good and tasted homemade too.
The physical space could be either a positive or a negative. It was an old cheesesteak restaurant in a past life. It's definitely not huge; there are only a few tables inside. It's not a fancy sit down "date" type of place, to be sure, but there is wait staff. They have done their best to make it cute inside, though, adorning the space with their own artwork. They also have a tv on the wall which was playing an anime film, "Castle in the Sky," the night we were there.
I really would like this place to succeed, but as we all know that this is a tough economic environment to open a new restaurant in. They definitely aim to please, and hopefully they will develop a following large enough to keep them going. I could definitely foresee them doing more take out business though than eat it. And they do have same noodle soups (ramen, I think), though we didn't order any. I could see it being more of a noodle-type place too, instead of primarily a sushi place. At any rate, we will see, and I certainly wish them luck!

Very friendly. only open for about two weeks. cool art that two of the brothers that work there did themselves. we were just walking by and checking it out, and they came out and talked to us for a good bit. probably not the best time to be opening a restaurant, but i hope that they make it. check it out!
We were walking down the street, having already eaten, and we could hear the infectious tunes of a dixie land jazz band emanating from the Village Pizza Cafe. As we looked in the window to check it out, the owner waved at us to come in. We did. It was great. Great band, great staff. Everybody was having a good time. Everybody even got up and danced around the restaurant and out into the street. If the food is even half as good as the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun, then it'll be a great place to check out. Can't wait to come back!
