Peg's Glorified Ham N Eggs
Category: Breakfast & Brunch
First grudge - horrible parking situation and really hard to spot. I've probably driven by Peg's a million times and I never even noticed it was there.
Second grudge - typical breakfast menu. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with your basic egg, bacon, and hash brown breakfast because sometimes that's what I want. But there was very little creativity involved in creating the menu, especially the omelet section.
They were EXTREMELY busy, but we managed to get a seat pretty quickly. However, out waitress took forever to get around to us and ask us if we wanted coffee. It another good chunk of time before she finally came around with that coffee. She never once asked if every thing was ok while we were eating and she took her sweet time bringing our check to us when we were finished. I understand that they are busy, but that seemed a little extreme.
I order the huevos rancheros - good, not fantastic, and a little different that what I was used to. My friend got the Eggs Benedict with chorizo and chipotle hollandaise sauce - it looked delicious and if I ever go back I may have to try it.
Anyway, I wasn't overly impressed but it wasn't completely disappointing either.
Anyway, back to the food. We ordered the fresh vegetarian spring rolls and the chicken cheese rangoon for appetizers. OH MY GOD the chicken cheese rangoon was DELICIOUS - I could have eaten a whole plate as my entree. The spring rolls were good, but I had the same complaint that I did last time - too much basil all concentrated in one area of the roll.
For our entrees, my boyfriend had the Panang Curry with beef and I had the Phad Pak Laum with chicken. The sauce on both were fantastic! I had no complaints at all about my dish; my boyfriend stated that his beef was a little over done. I was really impressed that they offer a choice of white or brown rice.

The Green Papaya is kind of hit and miss with me. The waitresses are very polite and the service is very good. Last time I was there the cook made us a special side dish free of charge (I think he was trying out a new recipe.)
The wait was a little long, but this is because it is a pretty small location. Also, it is located in a shopping center, which might turn some people off (maybe make them think that they don't serve good food, or it's not high quality.) This is not the case however. I don't remember what I ordered, except that it was one of their spicy chicken dishes. This was VERY good. My boyfriend ordered peanut chicken, and it was lacking any flavor but peanut. We both agreed that it needed some sort of spice in there.

Clary's Bar & Grill
Categories: Bars, American (Traditional)
I was excited to see this place open because the owner was our favorite bartender from the Sparky's in Northwest Reno and the cook came over from Pierce's Pub.
Clary's is right across the street from the Peppermill and shares a parking lot with Ruby River Steakhouse. The place is hard to spot if you don't know what to look for, but like Ernie said, it's in the round building.
The outside patio is great - nice patio cover with electric space heaters hanging from above, plenty of umbrella-covered tables and chairs, and smoking is allowed outside.
Besides your typical bud light, coors light, guiness that most places have on tap, Clary's also has Great Basin Icky, Lost Coast Brewery Tangerine Wheat, and other lesser known beers on tap. The owners are still working on drink specials and choosing the types of atypical liquors.
There are only two bathrooms - 1 for guys and 1 for girls. For a bar, I would have gone with more, but considering the space, this might not have been feasible.
Most times I have come in here it was been busy, but not crowded. However, we went the night of the UNR/UNLV game and it was packed! We stupidly left our table and 5 minutes later when we came back, someone else had already snatched it up, but luckily there were a couple of seats at the bar.
Ernie had mentioned that there are cutouts for slot machines, but no machines yet. I want to confirm that, yes, they are getting machines, but they are waiting on the gaming license.

We both ordered the cremini mushroom soup as an appetizer which was wonderful - really rich but not too much so. My boyfriend ordered the duck and I ordered to arctic char. Looking at the menu on their website, I realize that these were on the special Valentine's Day menu and we about $10 more expensive than everything else on the normal menu.
Regardless of that, though, the food was absolutely wonderful!
Our service was pretty quick up until we asked for a couple of minutes to decide on dessert, then it kind of slowed down. After we received our dessert, we were kind of rushed (one person brought our check, another took our card, and a thrid person brought it back). But this was only because the people who had a reservation had arrived and were waiting for their table.
Overall, a really good meal and almost good service (they were pretty busy though!). Definitely worth the money!
My boyfriend and I went to Spicy Pickle the other day for lunch because I had heard such great things about it. He chose to make his own sandwich and I chose the sausalito bandido. Both sandwiches were delicious! Only complaint was that the "build your sandwich" could have come with more meat. Especially since they let you pick three... wouldn't you think that if you choose only one meat, you would get three times the amount?
Their pizzettis sound amazing, and you can also build your own. We'll definitely be trying those next time!

A friend and I stopped in after lunch to get our eye brows waxed. We didn't have an appointment and were hoping we could just walk in.
The receptionist told us that the aesthetician had an appointment half an hour away and was pretty unsure about getting both me and my friend in. Luckily, the aesthetician said she would do both of us.
Our aesthetician was Amanda Brown and she was pretty much amazing. She has an awesome technique to make it hurt less! She was very friendly and was able to keep a conversation going.
Eyebrow waxing costs about $16 and will take about 15 minutes.
If you fill out their customer survey they send a coupon for money off of a pedicure or manicure.
Anyway, Record Street has a small menu of salads, sandwiches, soups, and appetizers. Everything I've had here is really delicious, and it made pretty quickly.
This is a great place for UNR students, since it is right across the street. I'm pretty sure they have events there, but I've never been to any of them, and I'm not exactly sure what kind of things they host (besides bands) or when they are.
I wish I remembered the name of the beer that I always got there... it so good. It's a unfiltered wheat beer, which is all I remember.

Salt Lake City Waiter
Categories: Couriers & Delivery Services, Food
I discovered Salt Lake City Waiter while I was in SLC for a work trip. I asked the front desk for delivery menus, and she handed me the SLC Waiter guide. The guide includes all sorts of restaurants and their menus - Greek, Mexican, American, Thai, etc. The guide also lists the restaurant hours, helpful on days like Sundays when a lot of places are closed.
Beware of the date on the guide though - the one I got was only valid for Nov. 2005. SLC Waiter no longer delivers from some of the restaurants, there are some restaurants that aren't listed, and the delivery charge was less in the paper guide.
All of the current restaurants they deliver from and their menus are on the SLC Waiter website. You have to register in order to place an order online, but registration is free.
You can either place your order by phone or online. There is a delivery charge ($10.95) and they require at least an hour (if you want it at 7 pm, then you should order no later than 6 pm.) They will call you to confirm, get any more details that they need, and ask what your method of payment will be.
I ordered my food at 10 minutes to 7 pm, and hoped I would have it by around 8 pm. They called to confirm my order, and said that the timeframe would be closer to 90 minutes to 2 hours. It ended up taking a little bit less than 90 minutes.
It's a great idea, and if you can get past the somewhat steep delivery charge, it's definitely worth it if you are in an area without many dining choices or if you are without a means of transportation.
EDIT:
For October, they are rolling back their delivery fee to $4.95. Only during October though, since it is customer appreciation month (or at least that's what my receipt says!)

The Firkin and Fox

The menu isn't very extensive, but everything they have sounds really good. I got the Firkin Burger, which is super messy, but oh so delicious!
The outside patio is nice and they have a fireplace for when it gets cooler outside. The inside reminded me of TGI Fridays for some reason... not that that's really a bad thing, I'm just agreeing with Randy when he says that it feels like a chain.

The little place is kind of difficult to find - kind of buried behind some buildings in the same parking lot as Waldens Coffeehouse. Also, it was a little miss leading what to do once actually getting inside the restaurant. I figured we'd be seated, but then I noticed that you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you later. This is also where you get your drinks, so if you want more than one beer/soda/other drink, I guess get them all at once or make another purchase?
I got the apple goat cheese salad, thinking it would kind of small and would be a good thing to tide me over while we waited for our pizza. However, it was HUGE and I'm glad my boyfriend decided he would help me eat it. But it was one tasty salad - there was only a little bit of sliced green apple, so it's kind of misleading to put that in the title.
We ordered two personal sized pizzas - the barbeque chicken and the tour. The barbeque chicken was so-so but the tour was pretty good. I felt like both pizzas were lacking something, but it's hard to put a finger on what.
I think that I liked it well enough to come back and try some of the other pizzas or maybe even the calzones.
