Every time I have walked in, I have been greeted with a warm hello and smile not just the wonderful aromas of all the delightful goods! The menu offers fresh baked bread, pastries, cakes, cookies and quiche.

Of all the items I have tried my top two favorites are their Strawberry Shortcake and the Lemmon Bars. Both of these treats are from my childhood - each now only was super tasty but brought back some great memories with each bite!

The Pork BBQ is a slow roasted pork butt with onions, bell peppers and their homemade BBQ sauce - which then pull the pork and bake in into a pie. The flavor is sweet with a nice spicy finish like a good BBQ has! Not only is the BBQ Pork full of flavor but also the crust they use for the pies is buttery and perfect on its own! The price for this whole pie may scare you but honestly there has to be entire large pork roast in that pie!

Now our go to sweet pie that we just LOVE is the Lemon Chess ($28 for whole pie). This orgasmic pie is made with lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar, eggs, Buttermilk and a little bit of cornmeal. This pie is full of flavor and I am not talking about artificial lemon or a bitter bite but a sweet gooey lemon orgasmic flavor! My mouth just waters talking about it (don't forget about that crust too!)

Is it possible to have a chocolate hangover?  If so you surely had one after The Chocolate Affair last Thursday, February 3, 2011! From the moment you walked you in, you felt as though you just found the golden ticket and you had just walked into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory (you know the scene with the chocolate waterfall and all the edible delights).

I headed back to try some new items from the Spring menu.  Here are some you have to try:
-The "Green" Crunch with Asparagus, Snow Peas, Green Beans, Peas, Chipotle Goat Cheese, Smoked Almonds and a Ginger-Chive Dressing ($11)- not only does the presentation make it appealing so does the crunch of the fresh veggies plus the smoked almonds add a nice twist to the freshness
- Smoked Pork Belly with Banana-Lentil Salad, Crispy Pig Ear and Chili-Caramel ($11)- the mix of the smokiness and banana are a perfect combination to this savory starter
-Salt Cod Crusted Turbot with Creamed Salsify, Mussels and Trumpet Mushrooms ($24)- This was Yummy and cooked perfectly and left me yearning for more
-Meyer Lemon Bars with Blueberry Marmalade, Candied Citrus and Blueberry Sorbet ($7)- WOW, my grandmother used to make me lemon bars and this brought back so many memories of her- I couldn't get enough of them

When you walk in your are welcomed with a contemporary design elements against a backdrop of time-honored architectural features by playing off the original Beaux Arts architecture of the former B&O Railroad Headquarters. The feeling is very sophisticated but not pretentious. Details from old B&O dining cars, such as The York, are incorporated into the chairs and individual lamps grace each table. Richly colored leathers and tailored wools with gleaming nail heads finish the chairs. The restaurant features seating for 146 including 76 on the mezzanine level, which overlooks the bar and exhibition kitchen. The service was by far some of the best I have seen in sometime. Not only was our server Joe great but the other servers I saw were helpful, friendly and on top of things. Joe was always willing to suggest a dish or further explain something off any of the menus.

To start with we shared the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad with Chipotle Goat Cheese and Saba ($10). This salad was summer on a plate. All the ingredients were fresh. The mixture of flavors and the kick of the chipotle exploded in your mouth. Another item that sounded great was the Cornmeal Encrusted Oysters with Fennel & Spicy Summer Melon Vinaigrette ($12).

For my main course I had the Rice Crusted Diver Scallops with Summer Succotash, Cherries & Smoke Balsamic ($27). The scallops I must say were the best I have had so far and was perfectly cooked. The cherries and smoke balsamic were such an elegant flavor with the scallops. And the Summer Succotash added a nice texture against the scallops.

My Husband had the Petite Filet Steak Frites ($28) with Duck Fat Fries, Pickled Red Onion & Watercress. The filet was perfectly cooked to medium and was melt in your mouth tender. The Pickled Red Onion & Watercress added a nice texture and even more of an explosion of flavor in every bite. The Duck Fat Fries were served in a mini fry cage from a fryer and the deeper in the cage you got the more flavorful each fry was.

For dessert I tried my favorite dish- the "Really Big" Brulee with Cocoa Nibs & Candied Ginger ($7). The brulee was served in a long boat shaped dish and not only topped with the Cocoa Nibs and Candied Ginger but fresh strawberries and peaches plus candied peanuts. The Brulee was perfectly cooked through and did not have an unset or runny bottom. The Candied Ginger was my favorite topping and was a great combination with the Burlee.

My Husband had the Apple Tart ($6) with Organic Honey Ice Cream & Whiskey Caramel. The tart was served in a mini cast iron skillet. The tart's crust was buttery and smooth and the apples had a slight sweetness and a nice mixture of spices.

Silver Moon Diner

The Silver Moon Diner and Restaurant claims they have something for everybody- breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and international fare.  We were served a basket of fresh bread that was topped with red and green sesame seeds for the winter holidays.  The Gyro was very fully loaded and as good as any Gyro I have had before.  The salad had the largest chunks of feta cheese I had ever seen and the Greek dressing had a very nice flavor.  For the most pat the service was good until we were done.  Our serve took a very long time to check in on us at the end when we wanted a box and check.  Once we got the check it again took her a long time to bring the payment receipt back to us.  As for diners go this one typical and a good deal.  The food met my expectations as did the typical diner décor and atmosphere. Next time I want to try one the desserts and breakfast.

Abbey Burger Bistro

Where to head for a birthday? When trying to get together for a birthday people always try to head to a new place that no one has been to. A great pick would be The Abbey Burger Bistro. This welcoming joint is tucked in a small alley, so look for the side walk sign.

If you are like Wimpy and love burgers then this is the place for you. They have burgers of all sorts- from bison, veggies, lamb, etc. They have very creative toppings on the different burgers. You can even build you own burger. All the burgers are served in black-and-white-checkered-waxpaper-lined baskets. They also have an impressive beer list with a variety of domestic and international beers available on draft and in bottle.

One burger to try is the harry's bistro burger- Roseda beef, bacon, sunny side egg, lincolnshire cheddar on an english muffin ($9) and added sweet potato fries ($3). My first bite was a bit of heaven- the muffin mixed with the beef and the egg makes you go Mmmmmmmm! Eggs have been served on burgers before but not like this one. The beef was perfectly cooked to order. The fries, oh the fries- they were the best sweet potatoe fries I ever had. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned.

Another gret try is the peanut butter burger--Roseda beef, smoked bacon, and creamy peanut butter on a bun ($9). You may be questioning this combination of toppings on a burger. I was offered a bite and I must say I was impressed and enjoyed it. When you hear about this burger the first thought that could could to your mind is of a PB & J sandwich that sticks to the roof of your mouth but it didn't do that. The peanut butter was a nice addition to it in the moderation that was on it. It wasn't over powering.

Some of the other burgers that were tested and tried were the lamburger--cucumber, onions, herbed yogurt, lettuce and toasted pita ($9) and gunpowder bison burger--onion rings, point reyes blue cheese, bib lettuce and tomato, mayo on a bun ($9). My Husband built his own burger (starts at $8). Everyone was very please with their choices and all agreed that the sweet potatoes fries were out of this world!

The service was perfect and the atmosphere was welcoming and fun. The food was very satisfying and original. Next time you're in Federal Hill try a Abbey burger!

I was heading out for a night with a friend and our first stop was to have dinner. Driving up Charles St. we decided to stop at XS Baltimore for dinner. I loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked in.

Have you even seen breakfast, sushi, cocktails and dessert all on one menu? Well here you will! The menu adds to the eclectic atmosphere.

The atmosphere adds to the originality of menu- exposed brick, steel and modern lighting with eccentric glass. The feel was very modern and hip. There are four possible floors for dining: 1- coffee bar/outdoor dining/sushi bar, 2- Mezzanine Dining, 3- Main Restaurant Dining Area with bar and DJ, and 4- Loft Dining Area. We ate on the 2nd floor which offered a great view of the main floor below.

My friend and I decide we would share some sushi and each order a salad. I started with the Cran-Apple Salad ($6.95)-mixed greens, sliced apples, dried cranberries, walnuts, and maple vinaigrette. The salad was crisp and refreshing except they did over do the dressing a bit. Since it was a vinaigrette is did flow to the bottom of the salad and was not drowning in it. My friend ordered the Mixed Berries Salad ($6.50)- a mixtures of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries.  The berries were fresh.

One of the sushi rolls we split was the Crazy Salmon Roll ($11.95)-8 piece Spicy salmon and tempura flakes inside, outside torched salmon and masago with eel sauce and sweet and spicy sauce. Beware this one is SPICY and it sticks with you- trust me it lingers! The second roll was Crunchie Fire ($11.50)- 8 piece Shrimp tempura and avocado inside; spicy tuna, tempura flake, and spicy sauce outside. This one had a kick to it but in no way lingered like the Crazy Salmon Roll. Both rolls were fresh and flavorful. Besides the heat (I would still order it again) we enjoyed both rolls extremely.

Since we had to be somewhere by 7:30 we missed the nightly DJ (8 pm - close). I look forward to coming back to experience the "night life".  They also offer Happy Hour Monday- Friday from 4 pm - 7 pm ($1.50 Sushi and $1 off Drinks). On Thursday, Friday and Saturday they have complementary valet (5pm - Close).

The décor is accented with dramatic lighting that includes lanterns replicated from China's "Forbidden City." There is also a gold-leafed Buddha keeps a watchful eye over the guests while they peruse Executive Chef Shawn Edelman's menu, a collection of delicious dishes from every part of the Asian continent. I started with the Ruby's Crisp Chicken- lettuce wraps & hoisin dipping sauce ($9.50). It was good as any other lettuce wrap. Then I tried the Dragon Roll- BBQ eel, shrimp, cilantro aioli ($13.00). The ailoi was a nice addition to the taste. Both were very tasting and well prepared. My husband had Stir-fry Filet Mignon- chow fun noodles and black bean garlic sauce ($21.75). He enjoyed they mixture of bean and garlic in the sauce. He was a bit up in the air about the texture of the noodle.
