This was our second and last music stop for the night. In theory, there was a $5 cover, but we got there before they started charging (FREE). We did tip the jar for the band, though, in what would have been the cover for each of us. d.b.a. is a little more of a typical bar feel with a stage. Here you can use a debit/credit card or cash. They have a more extensive wine/beer/liquor selection. It's sort of upscale without being uptown. d.b.a. is split into two sides, the stage side and the non-stage side, so when sitting near the stage it makes for a more intimate feel. We came here to see Glen David Andrews perform, which I guess he performs there every Monday. He was fantastic!!! If you get a chance to see this guy perform, do it. You won't be sorry.

Came here on our first stop of the night. This place is the real deal. It is what it is and doesn't make any apologies about itself. The musicians who play here are very talented and you'll be in for a treat, that's for sure. The place isn't fancy or high dollar, but definitely casual for a relaxed atmosphere. The drinks are inexpensive and strong. We sat at the bar and conversed with the owner of the place. She was friendly, took our picture for us, and at one point began passing out plastic cups filled with mixed nuts for all of us to snack on. There's no cover in the place, but the band requests that you tip the jar. There is a one drink minimum at this place, but like I already mentioned, the drinks are reasonably priced. Just as an FYI, this is a cash only place. I used the ladies room at one point during the night and immediately noticed an upright piano in it. Only in NOLA. :) Totally loved the vibe here and would definitely come back.

Ate lunch here on day 3 of our NOLA trip. We were walking around the Garden District looking at the beautiful homes and Lafayette Cemetery and decided we needed to eat.

We came towards the end of the lunch rush, so it was a little more quiet. We ordered gumbo and a catfish po'boy. Both were very tasty. The service was good too and the restaurant provided that welcome relief of a/c while we rested. Our meal was $24 for 2 sodas, 2 side salads, the cup of gumbo, and the catfish po'boy.

Grabbed an iced coffee here after touring the cemetery. It was a welcome relief from the summer heat and humidity. It's a great little coffee shop, free wi-fi, plenty comfortable, and reasonably priced. This was also a stop on our self-guided walking tour. The coffee shop is adjacent to a bookstore. I learned that this bookstore was a favorite of Anne Rice when she lived in the neighborhood. She would often have book signings here.

Began at this cemetery on a self-guided walking tour of the Garden District neighborhood in New Orleans. Walked through the cemetery on our own and found some really cool memorials at various graves. Who knew there was a special fraternity of lumberjacks? We came across a few of these graves along with a lot of WWII vets and victims of the Yellow Fever epidemic. Definitely worth a walk through.

Ate dinner here one night. Very low key, we walked right in and bellied up to the bar. Not much beer on tap, but that's okay because other than Bud, Abita is the beer of choice and it's a light enough amber/brown beer to hold up to the NOLA heat.

I ate the boudin po'boy. Totally huge, but very tasty. I could only eat half of it, but it was a very flavorful half. The boudin was nicely seasoned with a little kick of spice. The french fries were heavily seasoned as well.

My husband ordered the soft shell crab sandwich served on ciabatta bread and came with a romaine/red onion/roma tomato side salad. He thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich.

Glad we came here for dinner. It was a nice and relaxing place to eat, didn't feel rushed, and left stuffed.

Came here to get out of the stifling heat and cool off while getting something cold to drink. We shared a fried oyster/shrimp platter. The shrimp was nicely fried as well as the oysters. Seasoned fries made for a good side, but the salad was a bit lacking (it was just shredded lettuce with diced tomatoes and shredded cheese). All in all, it was just a good place to get out of the heat and enjoy a snack.

Wish the park was open (this was back in June), but you could tell that most of it was closed for refurbishment. Was bummed I didn't get to see Louis Armstrong's statue, but what was cool was that there were drummers and singers in Congo Square (on a Sunday afternoon no less) having a major jam session. So awesome to watch these musicians play in such a historic setting on a day when this had usually happened in the early days of the city. So glad we were there to listen and enjoy the music.

Old U.S. Mint

Stopped by here one day during our visit to NOLA. The Old U.S. Mint is part of the Louisiana State Museum. We enjoyed seeing the minting equipment used and learning about the workers' duties. Also in the same building was an exhibit on race co-sponsored by the American Anthropological Association. Very interesting look at the concept of race and how it has shaped U. S. society. We found out that the Jazz National Historical Park will soon be having exhibit space as well as some concerts performed there (which I think they already began not too long after our trip).

Currently admission to this museum is $6 for adults.

Really cool fresh food market, flea market, and dining all rolled into one. We found some really good buys here on hats and refreshments. So glad that it is under tents, shaded, and somewhat cool. Never would have thought I'd go to a farmer's market when in NOLA, but glad I did.
