I came mid-day during a holiday week, which may explain the quiet and the modest abundance of donuts. The lady was very nice and hooked me up with a tasty breakfast sandwich off her grill. The coffee was good enough to drink black. The high tables were comfortable enough to sit at, but they could do a better job of cleaning them. I took two donuts home to share with Grandma, and they were darned tasty donuts!

It is Popeye's. The food is hot and blander than I recall from my days of wide-eyed youthful innocence. The staff are fast and not rude. We hit the drive through and while they forgot our pop, neither had they charged us.
I would hazard to guess that some of the loyal patrons have, in addition to a taste for mildly-spiced fried chicken, a special fondness for the view I had at the drive-through window of a buffet of generously-proportioned ladies' bottoms. It was like a Hooters for Butt Men, without all the garishness.

Because you aren't exposed to enough noisy commercials already, this station blares them at you while you get gas. This is the second Shell station that I have found to do this, which I guess means I should just avoid all Shell stations.
I offset their ad revenue by running my debit card as a credit card. If you want to serve me a noise nuisance with my gasoline then you can choke on the merchant fee.

The fish is delish and the servers are pleasant to behold.
This is where we go for lunch when we want tasty sushi. Best to arrive before noon, or parking can get tricky. Even when there's a line they have pretty fast turnover.

There's two kinds of consumers in this world: those who can shop at IKEA and those who can't. Those of us who do know what we're getting into, and we know the tricks to assembling flat-packed furniture.
A couple of tips:
- You can open the heavy package while it is still in your car, and unload piece by piece to get the thing up the stairs.
- If you're missing a part, visit a half dozen local hardware stores who will tell you they don't sell that weird IKEA bit. Then make the pilgrimage to IKEA and try the parts bin. It will be empty, so just find your item in the warehouse, wander around the area with a blank expression until you're alone, then very obviously break into something to get the part you need.
- While the cafe is marginally better than a public school cafeteria, there's a decent view out the dining area.
A far better IKEA than the one in Emeryville. Avoid IKEA Emeryville at all costs!

The wife and I will often stop in after a meal to browse the various baubles and gewgaws, then I can test out the nice expensive furniture they have for sale and zone out a bit while the wife completes her Therapy session.
Sometimes we even buy some magnets or whatever. Sale or no sale, the point is that we leave more relaxed than when we came in. This is kind of like a little commercial tree-house for the Castro St crowd.

This would be a perfectly acceptable sushi joint if you lived in Bufu, ID, but there are plenty of GOOD sushi options around the 408 that there's just no excuse to waste your time somewhere "safe" or "unremarkable."
