Metro Diner

Category: Diners
Neighborhood: Manhattan Valley

5 star rating

4 out of 4 agreed GREAT diner coffee.

We came here after helping our friend move to 102nd St. and the whole meal was his treat. Keep that in mind while reading my review as price was not an issue.

Metro has awesome diner food with huge portions, better than average food, super fast service, and a funny waiter. My coffee and water glasses were never empty, but I never felt hovered over. It was really a perfect experience for me.

I was starved from lifting heavy things all day and went with the Reuben. It wasn't too greasy and tasted great. The fries were perfect and had nice seasoning. The cole slaw was very good and light. And like I said, GREAT coffee. Go here even if it's out of the way for you.

El Rincon Familiar

Category: Mexican
Neighborhood: Windsor Terrace

5 star rating

El Rincon is always good, always cheap, and always fun! There are many bare breasts on the wall and often times a man very quietly playing classical guitar. Like so quiet, he might be dead. But he isn't! THAT COOL.

Brunch is best. It's too much for one person and comes with a free drink, shakes included, for like $8.

Korner Pizzeria

Category: Pizza
Neighborhood: Kensington

Korner is not very good. Korner is not very bad. It sits there right in the middle. It's edible and satisfying, but I would prefer maybe ANY other place within a few blocks.

Oh wait, its the only pizza place around! Better than Rocky's 5 blocks away. Looks like we have to deal with it.

Quarter

Category: Bars
Neighborhood: Windsor Terrace

5 star rating

Quarter is very chill, more like a nickel if you ask me. Smooth edges, not too big, not too small, worth picking up off of the ground, etc.

They have very good house cocktails and a jukebox full of indie rock mix CD's.

Bring your dog so it can fight with the others and we can all laugh.

I don't have very much to say about Rosario's.

It's like every New York Pizza place and it's on a corner. The pizza is good. Worth it if you're walking by or have been drinking in the 'hood.

Plump Dumpling

Yes, the menus contain hilarious cartoons of children shouting weird things, but NO, DO NOT EAT HERE.

GROSS BUGS, yes plural BUGSSSS, in soup. I don't even know what kind of bugs they were, but they could have been in a Peter Jackson movie.

Also, what kind of vegetarian dumpling has meat in it?

Thrift is my middle name. Oysters is also my middle name. I went for the red, white, and blue special only and was very pleased. Nice wait staff and a mix of tourists and locals.

4 stars for a TERRIBLE BATHROOM. It looked like the Wet Bandits got to it last week.

Korzo

This business is now called KORZO.

All must bow before KORZO.

I did not ... I will submit photos of what happened soon.

Good brunch full of meat items (mostly of the sausage variety) Eastern European fare with a brunch twist. There were eggs on my bratwurst. It worked I guess. $8 unlimited intoxicating beverages.

They played Rumors by Fleetwood Mac twice in a row!!

Di Fara Pizza

Neighborhood: Midwood

5 star rating

Yes, yes, yes, you have to come here. You've heard it a million times, "You haven't been to Di Fara? GO RIGHT NOW!"

No, you don't have to "go right now." Relax and finish that blog entry you were writing, but if you have a free weekend and feel like making the trek to Midwood, it's a great way to spend an afternoon. Maybe a halfway pit stop on the way to the beach? Feel free to contact me for all of your weekend planning.

Personal trick to avoid long waits: order what everyone else isn't. Everyone wanted square one day so I ordered a round slice (triangle?) I got mine in 5 minutes.

The last 2 times I went, it was OFF THE HOOK. I don't normally use urban sayings, but in this case, I will.

I don't know about this "unkempt" business people are talking about. Wo Hop is pretty darn clean especially compared to the rest of Chinatown.
Bottom Line, this place is CHEAP and not bad. I will make this clear, though, it is not very good. I would say a little good, but mostly cheap food open very late. It's your best alternative to those creepy Karaoke bars on Mott. Cheap beers, too. Plenty of drunks, so watch out. Ew, the worst part is walking around here after 1am. It's you and a million rats.
