I used to get my eyebrows threaded at M&M Thread Salon in downtown Berkeley, but I recently moved to El Cerrito and was looking for a place close by to get threading services. I saw that Sara's Nail Salon was advertising threading on their window, so I decided to give it a try.
I walked in and asked the middle-aged receptionist in the front, "How much does it cost for eyebrow threading?" and she promptly responded, "$15. Do you want to get it done?" It was slightly more expensive than I'm used to at threading salons I'd been to in the past, but I agreed to it. The receptionist took me back to a private room at the back, where she had me lie down on a seat. A young woman came in and without making much conversation about what I wanted done, just started prepping my eyebrows with powder. I knew something was wrong when I suddenly felt her apply some hot wax onto my brow area. I immediately stopped her and told her that I had asked for "threading, not waxing." She looked at me, confused, and told me I should have told her beforehand. I responded that I'd asked the receptionist for threading, and she went out to talk to her.
The receptionist then comes back and claims that she could have sworn that I had requested waxing, not threading. I was 100% certain that I had clearly asked for threading services (after all, I knew the salon offered both, so I was very specific when I first spoke to the receptionist), but she then proceeded to say, "You probably asked me how much it was to get eyebrows done, and I assumed you meant waxing." I could not believe that this place was putting words in a customer's mouth.
Anyway, I was pretty miffed at this point, but they brought another girl in to do the threading, which turned out to be cheaper at $12 (the $15 they had quoted me was for waxing) so I decided to go through with it. I'm used to professional threaders whizzing through sessions by quickly and efficiently pulling out multiple hairs at once with relatively little pain so that I can get out of the salon in 5-10 minutes, but this girl took forever. She was obviously inexperienced and not very good at threading, because she took forever and she was working one hair at a time in an unnecessarily painful way. She then proceeded to spending even more time plucking! I'm accustomed to threaders plucking and trimming a few strays at the end that they were unable to get with their threads, but this turned into a whole 10-minute plucking session. If I wanted my eyebrows plucked, I would have stayed at home and done it myself!
In the end, I was satisfied with the end result of how my eyebrows looked, but it just took way too long and was such an unpleasant experience overall. I found Sara's Nail Salon to be rude, unprofessional, and incompetent, and will not be going back there.
