Everytime Im in LA, I always come by to have the mushroom ravioli and I will continue to do so as long as the quality stays consistent.

      North Beach/Telegraph Hill, San Francisco

      May 9, 2023

I've been here 2 times, and I think this might be my go to place in North Beach from now on, since I've been disappointed in the Italian food in this neighborhood. Good thing my first experience with Georgian cuisine was so positive, I've become a subscriber for life!

      The most important, the food:
Classic and bacon khachapuri (cheeseboat) - this eponymous dish of thin and crispy, golden bread dipped in a mixture of butter, cheese, and egg is absolutely delicious. With the different textures of crunchy, gooey, and fluffy, there's so many layers to love. The tactility of this dish- rip and dip- makes for a fun time. I totally understand why this is the national dish of Georgia. The bacon actually goes a long way to add more complexity.

Ojakhuri (Mushrooms and fries)- If I've learned anything about this restaurant, it's that they know their mushrooms and potatoes. Luckily, these are some of my favorite things to eat and this dish has both!! Grilled and seasoned to perfection. My mouth waters just thinking about the flavors...

Khinkali (dumplings) - if mushrooms are this places specialty, then the opposite is true for beef. The beef dumplings were fine, not bad, but just didn't taste very seasoned compared to the delicious mushroom dumplings which was chock full of umami flavor.

Blackberry glazed quail: I was a bit intrigued by this dish as I wasn't sure what to expect with the blackberry glaze but it was a sticky sweet and savory glaze with a crunchy skin and juicy meat. The flavors of the slightly tangy and sweet blackberry mix well with the savory fries, that are once again seasoned beautifully.

Shkmeruli (garlic milk chicken): the chicken was very soft and tender, but I feel like it didn't absorb the flavor of the garlic milk much. I didn't feel like there was much chicken either (at least compared to the reference photo). However, we dipped the bread into the garlicky milk and it REALLY absorbed all of the flavor. We even used the extra bread from the cheeseboat to soak up all the leftover garlic milk, which reminded me of the garlic butter for escargot (my only point of reference for this very particular flavor). My friends were a bit apprehensive about getting a dish that sounded like chicken that was just sitting in milk (like it was cereal), but it worked a bit. I wouldn't get it again, but would be receptive to just getting the garlic milk with fresh bread!

Kubdari (round bread with beed): again, beef doesn't seem like their strong suit. It says it's seasoned with spices, but I couldn't really taste it, which is disappointing because so many of their other dishes did not disappoint in flavor. Wouldn't get again.

Soko ketsze (mushrooms)- I saw this dish on their online menu, but I don't recall seeing it. This dish sounds tailormade for me. This is mostly a reminder to me for next time...

Peach compote- sweet and refreshing peach drink that I'd be down to try again.

Service and ambiance: I love the space. It's spacious enough for comfortable seating, with a warm feel from the bright lighting and pink walls.

As for the service, it looks like they changed from a traditional dining service to ordering from a tablet at the front desk and paying up front. This might be more efficient for them but I somewhat miss the interaction of traditional service, especially if I have questions. This second time I went, it felt like they had a lot of staff but none of them were accessible if you needed something or had a question. And the first time we were there, (presumably) the owner who served us was a bit standoffish.

Despite some of the negatives, they weren't the end all be all. Food is the #1 priority, I'll just avoid the few food options I didn't like and order all the other great options. I'd rate this place a 4.75 if I could. Can't wait to try something new!

I understand trying to quickly turnover during busy hours, but we were the only table in the backroom and a different waiter would come over what felt like every 20 seconds to try to remove my dish that I was still working on. Sometimes I was taking a break to talk, and I just couldn't get a word in from how frequent their interruptions were.

Honestly, the food was fine. It wasn't bad, just not impressed for the price. I've definitely had better Italian food for MUCH cheaper at other restaurants. 30 dollars for a rigatoni with red sauce that you could probably make at home and not know the difference besides the weight in your wallet.

Our focaccia, while tasty, came with 3 dribbles of basil olive oil. I didn't expect to come to a fine dining experience with these microfood portion sizes, but if it was fine dining, why the heck were they playing such odd music choices like Ghostbusters?

The Good: 1. spicy boneless chicken had a very nice flavor, crunchy.
      2. Pocha fries was super fake and gooey, which is exactly what I want when I'm eating nachos. No complaints. I can imagine it's divisiveness but it's exactly what you should expect.
      3. Portion size of the rappoki was pretty impressive

Alright, now that we've got that over with, the Bad:
      1. spicy boneless chicken came with 10 pieces of disproportionate sizes and were pretty small.
      2. The rappoki wasn't bad, but Costco's rappoki is somehow better? This one felt too watered down, the rice cakes were a tad overcooked. Yes, it's large, but it's largely underwhelming.
      3. Corn cheese left me displeased. Tasted like canned corn, not sweet. Cheese was bland. No caramelization whatsoever.
      4. Grilled fatty pork was flavorless. Needed salt. Maybe even spit in my food. At least it'll taste like something.
      5. This is going to be petty, but how do you mess up pickled daikon? More bitter than me writing this review. The daikons are usually my favorite part of a Korean meal
      6. Waiters were inattentive. The only time they came to visit us was to drop off food.

Maybe it's our fault cause we didn't get any drinks, so we were too cognizant of how meh the food was. Nothing was awful, but nothing made it worth coming back for. They should add rosé tteokboki to the menu.

Our waiter Sara was very charismatic and attentive, checking on us frequently.

The ambiance had a nice vibe. Even though the tables were close together, you could still have a conversation without feeling like someone is eavesdropping. The lights and general mood were very comforting.

In regards to the food, the mushroom ravioli was super delicious and I highly recommend the fungi bruschetta! Bruschetta was very crunchy, cheesy, and paired well with arugula. All things that I love. Friends' salmon pasta was okay according to her. Not bad but wouldn't get again.

Felt a bit pricey, but I guess that's what you get for eating on Valencia. Would come again.
