Buzz Inn Snohomish

Perhaps not the best steak place in the world, but you really can't beat the price for what you get. The quality is good, and the ambiance is more like a bar than a restaurant, but like a less-popular bar where it's more important to be able to hear the game on the tv than the loud music. We go to Buzz Inn if we're feeling like a steak and don't want to cook it ourselves.

Yum! BBQ pig doesn't get much better than this. They have ribs and sandwiches and even hot links. Plus the sides you expect like corn bread, coleslaw and chips. It's a small place, and sometimes you have to wait if you're looking to sit there, but it's worth it. Tuesdays has all-you-can-eat but I've never tried that as they give you plentiful portions even on other days.

Your standard burger joint, with fish, chicken, and veggie sandwiches too. What makes this place special is that you build your own burger. They have all types of toppings and extras - so if you wanted to make a spicy terriyaki fish burger with extra pickles, you could. My only wish is that you could get the burgers a little rarer. It's one well-done patty fits all if you order a hamburger. The shakes are so-so, but since none of it is terribly expensive, I'll someplace else for a killer shake.

Snohomish Bakery

We used to go to the Snohomish Bakery every weekend for coffee and breakfast. They sold the most wonderful chocolate cinnamon rolls I'd ever had. But then chocolate got expensive. And first the chocolate rolls disappeared, then the chocolate croissants and then the chocolate cookies (yes, I was desperate for chocolate :-). Then we stopped going so often. Their other baked goods are fine, but without chocolate, life just isn't worth living. So we stopped going there. I'll probably go back again in the winter to see if they've brought back the chocolate roll. Those were, truly, divine!

Plaza Garcia Family Mexican Restaurant

We visited this restaurant on our continuing search for good Mexican food in the Pacific Northwest. This was a dismal failure. Our first clue that it wouldn't be good hispanic food was that there were no Hispanics in the building. The red sauce tasted like ketchup and the cheese like velveeta. We ordered "hot" spice, and it barely had any flavor at all. Overall, a very disapointing Mexican restaurant. The prices were fine, but Taco Bell is cheaper, and tastes better.

Big Finn Hill King County Park

Big Finn Hill is a big park. And large parts of it are completely undeveloped. This makes it great for walking your dogs, running in the woods or riding your mountain bike. There is a section of the woods that the local kids built crazy jumps and hills for their bikes. I don't know that I recommend playing there, but if you're into x-games it might be fun.

Be aware that many people walk their dogs off-leash in some sections of the park trails and there are also horses to be found. So if you're riding your bike, please be responsible and stay aware of your surroundings.

This is a great park for seeing wildlife. I've seen deer, coyotes, and many different kinds of birds, including owls and raptors.

This is a great community center. It's not a huge park like Marymoor, but there is a lot to do here for it's size. There are ball fields, an off-leash dog park, trails, picnic areas and shelters, and coming at the end of May 2008, a spray park! Come to the community center and do yoga with us or just hang out at the playground with your kids. It's a nice park in a nice neighborhood.

This is a basic park - what's nice about it is the community center, but the dog-park area is less than ideal. We were really looking forward to finally having an off-leash park in our area, but this 2-acre fenced off field is boring and sort of sad. We took our dogs there and ended up putting them back on leash and walking the neighborhoods around the park. But if you have no place else to let your dogs run off-leash (and you don't want to make the trek to Marymoor) then this is a good option.

Centennial Trail

This is a great multi-purpose trail that goes from downtown Snohomish north all the way to Arlington. It is along the old railroad line, so the trail is flat and wide. It is well-paved giving it good access for wheelchairs and bikes. Plus through most of the trail (outside the Snohomish city limits) there is space for horses to ride alongside.

Bikes, pedestrians (with and without dogs) and horses all use this trail all the time. It is most popular on the weekends, but you can find people on it in nearly all weather and every day. Dogs are not allowed off-leash, but they will still enjoy walking the trail and sniffing the sites and sounds of rural Snohomish. We've seen coyotes on the trail and there have been posted sightings of cougar and even a bear once. If you get north of Machias you can see salmon in the creek. So, while it's very much an urban trail, you can get some wildlife as well.

This park is awesome. There's something for everyone here. There's a rock climbing wall, and a rock foot massage path, there's a museum (that never has been open that I've seen) and ball fields and more. There's a veggie garden if you want to grow your own food and an air field for glider planes. There's a concert series every summer and it's just a nice place to go and sit and play wth your kids or by yourself.

Marymoor Park - Off leash

Category: Parks

Definitely a great park. There is so much to do here beyond just the dog park, so if you get tired of playing with your dog (not that any of us would, right?) you can go over and do the foot massage rock walk thingy or watch the kids practice softball or just walk to the lake. It's fun. But don't forget your leash for when you leave the HUGE HUGE HUGE off-leash area.

Word of warning about the off-leash area. Weekends are very crowded, with lots of coffee drinking owners who spend a lot more time chatting at the entrances than watching their dogs. If your dog has any anxiety about being ganged up on, don't go on the weekend. The weekdays are less crowded, but then you get the dog-walker crowd. They generally pay more attention to their dogs and move away from the entrances, but they also typically have more dogs with them so they can be challenging for anxious dogs too.

We finally stopped going to Marymoor dog park because our high-maintenance dog couldn't handle the stress of it.
