Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill

Booyah! This place rocks. I walked into Golden Krust before going to the Prudential Center last week not knowing what to expect. I asked our servers there what was good and they all agreed that I had to try the Oxtail Combo, which I delightfully complied with and added an order of spicy beef patties on top. A few minutes later I was greeted with melt off the bones meat, sweet sweet plantains, stewed cabbage and rice & beans. Yum. A hearty meal fit for a king.

I had a little get away from work today to Hickory Tree. I got the roast beef joe, a bag of andy capp's hot fries, and a bottle of Joe Tea (bottled in Montclair!). The sandwich was monstrous and you definitely get what you pay for! This place totally changed what I thought a sloppy joe was in the past.

Horribly overpriced!!! You're paying for the fish food. Both you and the fish will probably be eating something passed off as gourmet...

I went here as my hangover cure before we went biking in Central Park. Between the mint tea, hummus, kebab wraps, and a few advils, I felt like a new man after an hour on their outdoor patio. It's the perfect brunch spot on their patio before a leisurely bike ride through the park. Just do it!

I had the rib eye steak with basil pesto, avocados, and tomato salsa and basically had an orgasm in my mouth. It is that good. I wasn't drunk but I have to say this is the new go to spot for late night munchies for me!

Nobu 57

Nobu, you are a soulless bastard!

Walking into Nobu 57 is much like walking into an ageless monument. The massive place is immaculate. Immaculate all the way to the people eating there, which may be good or bad depending on which side of the fence you're on...

The waiters must have had either great training or mind reading powers because when our dinner host/friend did his usual "let's let the server order for us," our waiter charmingly answered with great temptations without a single moment of hesitation. He snapped off a list of items that tantalized our minds with professional accuracy. (Mind you, he did not give us the omakase on the menu and offered options to shift directions as we saw fit.)

In successive order and in an unhurried manner, our server guided us through progression of cold, and then hot dishes, that inspired and awed us. Each piece of fish and meat was perfectly cut and seasoned. Even the attention after each course was delightful...

By the end of our meal, we were all entirely satisfied. Neither stuffed, nor hungry for more. But why did I feel as though there was a something missing? Why did I feel like there was wool over my eyes? Although my stomach was full, I knew my heart felt empty...

Nobu, why do you tempt and lure people to be like your cold, clean perfection? I want to love you but you've lost your soul. I wouldn't be surprised if you sold it for that devilish bento box. Yum...

Oh Cucina di Pesce,
you had me at hello...
Your reviews were glowing,
nice bottles of wine were flowing,

the service was excellent,
the decor was pleasant;
but when the food arrived...
I was awfully surprised!

I guess I got what I paid for.
Cuz you kept me asking for more...
I guess this must have been fate!
Cuz I found the best place for my cheap dates...

They say the harder you work, the luckier you get. Furiously clicking the refresh button at 10 AM and arduously searching 1st Avenue for a sign or awning, signifying that I have found the holy grail, may have actually got me thinking that I am lucky indeed.

For a hole in the wall kind of place, I was thoroughly impressed by the way Ko was thought out: the meal was ready to be made for you when you walk through the door, modest atmosphere, first class service staff, unique several course adventure with perfect enhancements through paired libations, and enjoyment for 3 hours, unrushed. What more can you ask for?

Maybe a discount... but such is life.

Every course was amazing with my favorite being the duck dish with the pairing of Ramirez de la Piscina, Reserva Rioja 2001. Your results will vary due to the ever changing menu.

At the end of the night, I felt comfortably satisfied and nicely inebriated. I was ready to go home, lay down, and dream about future meals at this amazing restaurant. Or was this all a dream in the first place?
