Thai Canteen

my go-to place!
Literally.

I go here to eat, when i'm on a date, for birthdays, when i'm drunk, and even study (the workers don't acknowledge me anymore as i cry at 1 A.M frantically studying with a plate of pad mee kao and my laptop and papers sprawled out on a table for 2 ).

The food is great! The usual pad thai, pad mee kao etc is always good, but other things to try is the beef salad, duck fried rice and crab fried rice.

Another plus - it is completely affordable, you really get the most bang for your buck.

A true hole in the wall, the restaurant wasn't that big but the food was amazing.

I always judge a good ramen place first by the noodles - i don't accept dry noodles being reboiled again. And shoki did not have that! They cut and make the noodles fresh, so that was a huge plus!

Then i had a taste of that broth and i was sold. I got the tam tam ramen small with extra toppings (spinach and beef). I'm in love, i need to take everyone i know here.

One word: orgasmic.

The desserts are to DIE FOR. It may cost as much as a meal, but it's completely worth it especially if you're in San Diego visiting.

Everything is good, just experiment!

Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop

"The more south you go, the better the mexican food is"

Knowing this, I jumped at the best mexican joint there is in San Diego. I needed a taste of a legit burrito and by that I mean I wanted to go to a run down - hole in the wall mexican joint with folks who are so native I'd have to try out my 2 years of spanish class i took in high school to order.

Lucha Libre may not be all of the things above but the burritos, tacos and champion fries (carne asada fries) are to die for. Perfectly marinated.

Lucha Libre will not let you down.

I love this place. What's not to love about scoops that only cost a dollar?
it's affordable. Check
it tastes yummy. check!
folks are friendly. check!!

it's no biggie why i gave them high ratings. even if my taste buds didn't agree with a few of their flavors, that's okay because that's what sampling is for.

this place is rare - which makes it a must go to for ice cream whether you're on a budget or not.

Mochilato

when i asked my roomie to make me a list of places i should go when in socal for spring break... mochilato was on the list!

I was anticipating mochilato ever since day 1 in LA. When looking for it in the plaza i scared the living life out of my boyfriend as i shouted MOCHILATO! and pointed to this hip place.

The mochi was really yummy and there was a large selection. A day earlier, I had just tried the mochilato from the original mochi makers in Little Tokyo but I like it here better. I could taste the lightness of the gelato rather than it being injected with ice cream!

As for the shaved ice... I don't think I'll be ordering this again. The smallest size was 7 bucks (pricey for ice). The toppings were very yummy with pineapple, strawberries, kiwi and more. However the ice was really icey. For me, yummy shaved ice is when they are able to make it soft - like snow. I feel like if it's super icey - i could have done it at home for way less of the price.

Sushi Unlimited

Expensive much? Yes but if you set your eyes only on their 50% off menu, you won't leave with a hole in your wallet. One roll in the 50% off menu is huge. I may not eat that much in one sitting, but my guyfriend sure does and he even said the roll was a fair size for the $6 he spent on it.

3 good things I remember on the 50% menu - Crazy roll, domo arigato (don't get the I-80 - it's a typical roll), go aggies

A handroll that i found really impressive and made me a fan was the Zorro Handroll, I have never ate anything like this. it's thanks to this special little thing that I'm a fan of Sushi Unlimited. YOU GOTTA TRY ONE. It's definitely unique and new.

The quality is amazing.

The thing they really need to improve on is the slow service. The orders take awhile to make even if it's just a couple of sushi rolls or one handroll. So beware.

P.S there's a bar in the back. kiwi soju is super tasty.

Sen Dai Sushi

My best friend took me here, we took our whole group of friends here, I took my cousin here, I took my sisters and dad here, I also took my bio classmates here before a group project and I brought my boyfriend here.

Do I like Sen Dai's?

UH YEAHH.

I was going back and forth between four stars and five stars. But what makes them more then a four star is because not only is the sushi pretty darn great - it's enough for me to take almost all my loved ones here every time i hear them say "I'm hungry, and I'm craving sushi". One roll can fill me up and it only cost 6-7 bucks to do so! I've been going here for about a year, and it's still been satisfying me.

I would recommend booty call (for something unique tasting), milpitas roll (for something crunchy but not deep fried).

As for the restaurant not being spacious and what not, it's a mom and pop hole in the wall i believe. I don't mind, and i don't think it's that cramped. Fortunately, they are expanding as we speak!

There's a wait during dinner time so plan ahead.

And the service is great. They check up on me from time to time, and my sushi rolls are made super fast.
