Love it. You gotta try this chicken. Both the Spicy and Soy Garlic are amazing. I'd like spicy with draft sapporo and/or little soju...

Sushi is even very good. I'd also recommend Al Tang Korean seafood hot pot.

This place is packed at night and even the take out order takes a long time, I'd call plenty ahead of time. Worth the wait, I may add.

Absolutely love this place.

I've been going there because it is my in-law's favorite Japanese restaurant, but I just had awesome experience there that just pushed me over the edge to 5 stars.

it's "Omakase" menu item. $45 for a dinner.

Omakase means (roughly translated) "Leaving it to the chef." It was amazing 5 course meal (Well, 4 plus dessert). I got Tuna tartare with Quail Egg to start (Otooshi), big chunks of Yellowtail(Hamachi), Maguro(Tuna), Tai(Snapper) and Ponsu sauce and daikon/ginger Oyster for Sashimi. Osuimono(soup) with two huge lobster claws. and 12 big pieces of Nigiri Sushi of which especially Anago (fresh water eel) and Hamachi was superb. And yokan dessert. If I get what I got at some restaurant in downtown Boston, the cost would have been thee-fold. It was amazing.

Have you seen "Iron Chef"? I felt like I was judge of that show or I was the chairman Koga. (I love that show...)

Ebisuya Japanese Market

Nice market Now that the Porter's Kotobuki is gone, this is probably one of the best Japanese focused Market in greater boston. You may find less expensive things in Reliable Market (which is a Korean market with Japanese items, in Inman Sq. Cambridge) but Ebisuya, like former-Kotobuki, has more selections for Japanese items.

It is nice to have a little place like this for Japanese community to gather. After the Quake/Tsunami in Tohoku, they have collected donations and origami cranes.

Also, take out Sushi is not bad at all. I'd get them again.

I don't give one-star rating often... of my nearly 80 ratings, this is only my second one.

Food was OK, but two problems -- price and service... dinner was way too expensive, and only reason we went was we were staying in the hotel this is located and my son was really tired to walk a little. I was told by the hotel lobby that they have kids menu, (and they do, but you have to ask for it) and when I asked what kind of beer they have, waitress literary sighed and rolled her eyes. Perhaps because we weren't dressed well enough for them? I don't know. Food is way overpriced.

Do yourself a favor and walk down 5 blocks and go to Federal Hills. You can get two wonderful meals in any restaurants there for the price.

Ito sensei is the best aikido teacher I have ever had. Members are very kind, thoughtful, and great learning environment. Pay for the first 3 months of a new adult membership in full and get free "gi" or $40 off.

Very cool setting and not as crazy busy at other places (like HLM) so we were able to sit around and talk for a while (was Saturday, so Sunday maybe a different story). Food wasn't bad.

This is a really funny store to visit. Worth a visit. One f those places that I love to look but very rarely buying anything (Things are bit pricey for me). Good place to get a gift idea though.

(Adding this to my Japanese store as honorable mention even though they do not sell any groceries)

I really wanted to like this place. I was excited that it opened, and I was really really looking forward to adding it to my Boston Japanese Grocery Store list. Perhaps my expectation was too high.

Yes it is authentic, 100% Japanese. Stuff that can not be found in places like Super 88 is here. But, the price is on the bit of high side, and to bargain hunter like me, just couldn't justify buying small bag of stuff for a premium prices. Selection is also pretty limited, though understandably so, not that they are not trying (This is Boston, after all).

I fully support their effort and I hope they stay for long time, but sorry, I can only give three star for now. But, this is only based on my first visit, and I may change my mind.

Update - 3/18/2010
This is a small Korean market, but the more I make visit, the more I appreciate the place. As small place as it is, they stock a pretty good selection of Japanese items and price is fair. Now that the Yoshinoya in Central Sq (my favorite place) is gone, and 88 jacked up the prices, this place ranks second only behind the Reliable (Inman Sq) on my list of my favorite place to buy Japanese groceries in Boston.

There is a city parking lot right across the street behind the buildings, and of course there is a Green line (Harvard Ave stop on B line).

There is a small but good selection of kids snacks and my son absolutely loves going there. Which is a huge bonus for me.

Small place, but filled to the brim with stuff. Mostly Korean stuff, but has fairly good selection of Japanese grocery. Price is fair. You can park in the city lot near the big Blanchard's liquor store.

Wow. I had recommendation from three different people, and so I wanted to try it, and I finally did. I believe the hype.

It is the best shou ron pou (Xiaolongbao) that I had in Boston, yet. In the memu that is A34, Mini Juicy Dumpling with Pork (8) $6.50.
Lunch specials are $7.25 and lots of choices, Awesome. I will go back there again.

They do accept credit card, but they have minimum of $20.
