The location is fine, the ambiance is fine, and the food is fine.  But I still am hesitant to highly recommend this place.  It was pretty pricey with mains at 17-26 or so.  It's a bit loud, has an older crowd, tons of booths, plus open windows in the front when it's hot out.  Probably good for a date!

My running/social club has hosted an event here every year for 3 or 4 years now.  We used to have a different venue each year, but it's hard to beat this place.  The bartenders are always really friendly and the venue allows us to negotiate a price on the beer before we arrive, and we drink a lot.  They have multiple spaces that you can use, the smallest fits about 150 or so, maybe more.  You can also bring in your own food.  I'd highly recommend hosting an event here, especially if yours is a crazy loud group like ours is!

Based on the reviews I read, it took a long time before I ended up eating here.  But last night we were looking to try somewhere new but not go too far... and we ended up here.  It was about 6:30pm and nearly everyone looked as though they had just piled out of an office building nearby.

The beer is very good and I liked that not only did they offer Sea Dog beer, but other types as well.

Our table had the reuben and bean burger.  Thumbs up on those, pretty standard and nothing to complain about.  Good fries and homemade pickle.  There was also an order for fish and chips - the fish was great, but the batter was not great.

This place will never become your local, but you might frequent it after work - they had four VERY large tables and are prepared for your work parties.

It certainly beats the FGI Friday's that used to be in this building!

The food, the atmosphere, the giant flaming pizza oven - -  it all makes for a great place to go.  If you are looking for a nice restaurant and you enjoy a good crunchy pizza, you really can't go wrong with this place.  It leaned towards a crowd slightly older than the most of Davis Square, which I appreciated.

Next time I go, I will be organizing it for a group of friends to order the whole roast pig.    They have a "back room" sort of area that seats large groups.  I can't wait to go back and do this!!

What a cool place!  First of all, it's free.  I'm not sure why, but it is!  The whole tour takes about 45 minutes and includes a short little ferry ride to the opposite side of the river.  It's a small fort/watch tower with some interesting history.  Other than the fact that it is actually free, the other best part of the tour was the guide.  He knew more stuff about this fort and the era that it was used than I thought possible.  He gave a short interesting talk and then you could ask questions and listen to more of what he had to say if you were interested.  Even the teenage boys on the tour were interested.  I highly recommend this to just about anyone of all ages.

Also, a baby set of owl just hatched there and were easily visible to the naked eye atop one of the giant trees in the parking lot.  You can't believe they are babies - because they are so big.  that was really cool.  There's also a few picnic tables if you wanted to make a full afternoon of the outing.

The classes were good, but I only went a few times.  Pilates just wasn't for me.  They put me on their mailing list and after 5 requests over many months.... I still get those stupid emails.  If you go, don't provide your email address.

Eddie's Restaurant and Mexican Grill

I went to Eddie's for lunch this week after reading an article about this new restaurant on Wakefield Patch: http://wakefield.patch...

Not a bad little place!  I was the first to arrive at about 11:30 (( was hungry!), but a steady flow of people came in over the next hour or so.  They had lots to choose from, but for a Mexican restaurant, not too many Mexican options.  But that could be because of the expected patrons.  I overheard this conversation at the next table:

Lady 1:  I think I'll get a quesadilla.
Lady 2: What's a quesadilla?  I've never heard of it.

I laughed to myself for a few minutes.  For those of us who ARE familiar with Mexican food, maybe they could offer a Menu Del Dia or something to keep us coming back. I'd sign up for tweets to find out!  It's a big place with lots of booths and they serve quickly, so it's a great place for your lunch break.

FOOD:  Five stars.  I got the nachos, complete with guacamole and chicken for about $8 or $9.  The guacamole was the best I've had in awhile, and it was included with the nachos - a rare thing!

SERVICE:  The waitress was so nice.  All in all the whole place just seemed eager to please.  We need a Mexican place around here, so I hope they do well!  I'm just so glad it wasn't ANOTHER Italian place....

PS.  Please put some hot sauce on the tables!!

Despite my five star review, I try to avoid coming here.  You just ending eating lots and lots of calories that you just shouldn't be consuming.... but at least you will be savoring every second.  Pick a muffin, any muffin, and you will love it!  I never thought to buy one of their muffin loaves - but a friend brought it over for brunch this past weekend and it just melted in your mouth.  The good part of the loaf was that if you could restrict yourself to one slice, the portion you were eating was much smaller than the muffin.  But, that's a very big IF.

I took my husband here for a surprise on his birthday.  I had no idea what to expect, except that it was on a farm.  If you are looking for a different kind of dining experience - with incredible food - this might be for you.  It's a crapshoot who you sit with, so hopefully you will have good company at the large shared table.  If you are 25, you might be bored out of your mind, but anyone in their late thirties or older will fit in.  More than anything - the food was fabulous.  The food was better than most restaurants I've ever eaten at/.  Really.  It was that good.  I live pretty far from here - so I don't think I will be back often - but I will definitely return in the future.  We still talk about the cauliflower garlic soup.... and the sausage covered lamb.  This was finer than fine dining - and it wasn't pretentious or stuffy.  Love the barn setting and how you pay via iPad right at the table!

PS.  The people across from us didn't tip AT ALL.  I thought that was inappropriate since they had nothing but good things to say about the service and meal.  It is a restaurant and they do serve you.  If you can afford the $60/person, you can afford to tip.  Especially if you spend the whole evening talking about the "incredible new addition with slate fireplace" and how you spend the day sewing.  You jackass.  Yes, you.

After a random Sunday morning spent at the Harvard Natural History Museum, we ended up here for oysters and beer.  I'm sure we ended up deciding that was the best thing to order at noon on a Sunday.... but it was good.  They had a good selection of both!  It was pretty quiet in there as we sat at the downstairs bar and so we started talking to the bartender.  Turns out you can also reserve one or both of the curtained off tables downstairs for private parties.  You can even organize a fixed menu with the chef ahead of time.  Cool idea for get togethers!
