Chopstix Glatt Kosher Chinese Take-Out & Catering

The food at Chopstix is probably some of the best around Teaneck.

If you go at dinner time the prices are pretty expensive. Not everything is available in a small so if you want something like General Tso Chicken, you are looking at $15 bucks.

The lunch special however is probably the best deal I have seen around. For 7 bucks, you get your main dish, rice, and soup. You can even request it in Shabbos containers, which is perfect for a Friday night. Just pick it up in the after noon and reheat it. For that price how could you go wrong?

The biggest complaint is how slow the service really is. Once I ordered, waited 20 minutes, and then went in, they hadn't even started cooking my food. Since it takes so long, normally I call when I am leaving work, in Newark, and pick it up 40 minutes later, since it is usually done by the time I get there (once it actually wasn't!!!)

Lazy Bean Cafe

The Lazy Bean is a great place to just kind of sit around for an hour or so surfing the internet while sipping your coffee. It really is an awesome little local coffee shop. On top of that, everything they have is kosher. What more could you really ask for?

Most of the mixed drinks I have tried are really good (could use a bit of alcohol though), but the probably is none are really healthy (as you would expect).

Over all the place, is great, I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that I am freezing right now as I type this.

Jerusalem West

Jerusalem is a great place to get some kosher food, but man is it tight. There are about 4 different ordering stations, but you have to walk through the same narrow walkway to get to the different ones. That means while someone is ordering Sushi you have to squeeze behind them in order to get your pizza or falafel. It seems like no matter what time of day you go in there the place will be crowded, so be prepared.

Everything I have had here has been great. The Pizza is really good and a  priced well. They also usually have a couple of calzones ready to go too.

The falafel is great and always hot as well.

One of the best deals at the place is the three items for $8. They have tons of different options to chose from (probably about 20), and all of those which I have had were great as well.

I have never had the sushi there before, but everyone I have been with who had thinks its great.

They also have a large freezer case and shelves filled kosher and Israeli products. Its not the biggest selection, but if you are there anyway, it's a convenient place to grab a few items.

Additionally all of their Pareve items they say are Pas Yisrael, which can always be good to know.

Poppy's Bagels

I have been in this bagel place many times and not once have I been greeted with a friendly greeting. I am not expecting someone peppy, it just would be nice once to not feel like the guy considers me a bother for placing my order.

The bagels are good and the prices are reasonable, I just always dread walking in because I know I will be met with an unhappy greeting.

They do offer a wide range of other products from Pizza to Salad however I have yet to try them. Typically I am in there in the morning, grabbing a quick bagel on the run. If its up to me, I would rather head to Jerusalem Restaurant and grab a pizza there where I will be met by pleasant employees. If I am in the Livingston area, I typically hit up Super Duper Bagel, because the bagels are also good, but the employees are extremely nice there.

Wow, this place is absolutely amazing. I can honestly say I had the best steak of my life at this place.

The place is BYOB, so we brought a bottle of wine with us, and they of course provided the glasses. The immediately brought out a basket of piping hot rolls were very good, so I knew it was a great start.

We got a platter of Sushi as an appetizer. Be prepared to pay for it, but you definitely will get a lot. If you want a platter of veggie sushi its only about $30 for 8 rolls. If you want wish its probably more like $65 for 6 rolls.

When the main course arrived I could not even believe the size of the portions. My steak, which was perfectly seasoned was huge.  Another person in my part ordered a chicken dish, and the other lamb chops. Everyone was extremely happy with the meals.

We all were so full that we did not have room to even look at dessert. I definitely will be back, but its very expensive, so it will not be too often.

Schnitzel Express

I check this place out in the past and have been pretty happy there. They have a ton of different types of schnitzel, but in my opinion can you really taste a different when you get it as a sandwich? Sure if you get a platter you can, but I usually get a sandwich so they all basically just taste like breaded chicken on a bun.

The prices are a bit high, but the food is pretty good and the portions are a pretty decent size. If you are in the area its definitely worth checking out.

The place is pretty small, maybe only seating for 15 people, so if you go at peak meal time I recommend taking your meal to go.

Benjy's Kosher Pizza Dairy Restaurant & Sushi Bar

During a recent trip out to Queen my fiancee and I decided to hit up Benjy's for some kosher food before heading home. She wanted pizza, and we decided to try this place, and I definitely was disappointed.

There were a ton of customer standing up by the counter in no particular order so it was hard to tell where we needed to go in order to place an order. Once we finally got someone's attention we placed our order, in a manor that seemed to be very confusing. The guy was taking our order and writing stuff down while talking to other employees, no idea how he got it right (except for the fact that it wasn't complicated).

Right after we placed our order I heard someone else order spicy fries, which I hadn't seen on the menu and they sold me it was an extra 25 cents. No problem, I took a single out of my wallet and they just kept saying "25 cents" even though I told them i didnt have any coins. Finally they gave up and just handed me the fries.

The food was pretty good, but the service was just horrible. I definitely will try somewhere else next time I am in the area.

Open Table  Grill Bar

Category: Kosher

I guess I should have known this place would be a little disappointing when I tried to find the information on it. Did the owners never hear of "Open Table" before? If you enter the name of this business into Google, you will getting millions of hits for the restaurant reservation service.

After finally finding a place to park, I entered this restaurant ready to chow down on some kosher food. Unfortunately the place was FILLED with large families taking up a lot of room, which meant no seats. This is definitely NOT the type of place you want to take a large family, there are under 10 tables, and if you need to take up 3 of them, you are at the wrong place.

As soon as we walk in the waitress came up to us and apologized and said it would probably be a while, because none of the tables were close to finishing. The people we were there to meet were running late anyway, so the wait wasn't the end of the world. The only issue was that the only place they have to wait is this tiny corner next to the front door.

I decided to order the shwarma and specifically asked for no Israeli salad in it, which the waitress wrote down. Although she wrote it clearly, it still arrived with it inside, and the fries not inside (like she also wrote). Whats the point have having your waitress write down special requests if the chefs don't read it?

The place definitely has a lot of promise, but a lot they need to work on.

Oh and only having a washing station in the bathroom? Seriously?

AMC Essex Green Cinema

Having grown up in West Orange my entire life I have seen the Essex Green go through a ton of different  stages. I remember as a kid going to the General Cinemas located where Shop Rite is now, and Rickle's where Fridays is now. After both of those went out Essex Green pretty much went vacant and nothing was left there besides for a few scattered stores. Then this new General Cinemas opened (before becoming AMC) and it brought everything back.

When the theater first opened it was a huge multi-plex that was sparkling clean and everyone loved going there. If you wanted to spend a nice night out, this was definitely the place to go.

After having not gone there for a couple of years, I went this past weekend and was blown away at the change. The place looked completely un-cared for, and dirty. There was popcorn and other garbage all over the floor and the employees seemed not to care. They now have police offers there next to the ticket taker, making sure no one tried anything.

While in the theater, I am not sure why, but people seemed to have a lack of consideration for anyone else around them. This was the loudest movie I have ever sat through. People came in and screamed at someone else then left. Police were walking in and out. It was just completely a horrible experience.

I have no intension of ever going back to this once great movie theater.

This past weekend I attended Circumcise Me with Yisrael Campbell and had a really great time. This show was hysterical and would highly recommend checking it out, however I wished the theater was set up a bit better.

The set up unfortunately is set up so that the only bathroom is on the far side of the theater, which you cannot access before they let everyone in.

Also our seats were in a horrible place. We decided to get aisle seats, because thats what we like best. What they didn't tel us is we had part of the stage blocked by a poll. We could see him majority of the time, if he went all the way stage left he was blocked. Even moving the seats 6 inches to the left would make a huge difference.
