Golfsmith is an amazing store. Everything under one roof from clubs, balls, shoes, clothes, bags, etc. Even have a workshop there, so you can get clubs modified, shafts/grips replaced, etc.
I enjoy looking thru the bins of used clubs they take on trade-in as well. And if you want to try them, go to one of the two simulators there.
Need lessons? They do video lessons as well.
Best Golfsmith is down in Austin TX (headquarters). They have a driving range outside the store. But the simulator makes it comparable and a few miles from my home.

Went last night, and it was pretty full. Had the foresight to make reservations, which made it easier to get a table.
I so love their lettuce cups! We also got a few other apps, of the ahi tuna, egg rolls, spring rolls, etc. They also have a nice wine list as well, with good prices.

A few notes to know: This place is very popular, and the tables fill up fast. The regulars seem to bring their own camping chairs, and coolers with food. You cannot bring wine from outside their offerings, but the wines there are quite good and not that expensive.
The other thing to note, if you pay for the tasting ($9-12/person) you also have to pay the full price for wine. Might be good to split to decide on what you want to purchase.

I have been a fan of Andrew's for a long time.
If you like the tasting room at Andrew Murray, you need to get back when they have the festivals. This is the facility where the do the bottling. (you missed their previous facility that was AWESOME!)
The winery specializes in Rhone (big) wines. Which is very large tastes, etc.

Well, they have now gone to the $10 tasting for 4 wines. A long ride in for not that much.

Demetri winery is a new comer in the Santa Ynez Valley. Found purely by accident, it has taken over the old beautiful winery location of Andrew Murray up off of Foxen Canyon. (like 2 miles off the winding road)
They do rhone wines, and had free tastings for the Vintner festival. The Syrah is very big and bold.
It is nice to be able to go back to the old location, but I miss Andrew Murray being there ...
Too, we love the picnic area there under the big trees, grass and emus!

Great winery! And a great place to have a picnic.
While a lot of wineries have good but expensive wines, Koehler makes a good wine that is typically around $10. Hit this place on the festival weekends and take advantage of the sales they typically have.
After you have done the tastings, head to the back of the property and grab a picnic table. There are some trees back there, so you have some good shade. Bring a picnic, and grab a bottle of wine from inside and relax. (isnt that the point of these weekends out there?)
UPDATE (October 17, 2007): Was there for the Harvest Festival, and the wines this year are very good (but a lot of them in the region were weak this year). They updated the tasting room, opening up the room with a larger area to taste, paved the parking lot, added more spots to park, and extended the fence. And yes! The EMUS! (very funny birds out the back fence)

Patrick's Side Street Cafe

- Melted cheese appetizer ... could have been a meal in itself.
- Peppercorn Rib Eye (14 oz), cooked on the grill out front. Melted in your mouth.
- Halibut - very thick piece of fish with great flavor
Patrick is great!! Side Street Cafe is a must!

I have been to Patrick's before, and on our recent trip back we had to return. (we had been to Brother's the last time anyway)
The location is just west of the traffic circle in the middle of Los Olivos. A smaller location with maybe 10-15 tables in it. There were two tables on the porch, and appeared to be a garden area in the back.
The food is incredible. The menu is very well done, and the specials also very good. We had a mix of dishes, and shared. The scallops were fantastic, there was a skirt steak (Patrick grilled), I had a rib eye with a wine reduction, and I forget the last one. The salads were huge (we were glad we shared).
The wine list is very deep with a lot of local wines available. Too they are more than willing to let you taste the wines before you get the whole bottle.
Yes, Patrick is a character ... but this place would not be the same without him.
Date

They had a selection of Geyser Peak wines, PF Chang's food (lettuce cups, ahi, pot stickers), a number of things to raffle off, a short lecture and Q&A by Dr. Joe Parent (author of Zen Golf), and great deals on golf equipment.
We also got $10 cash cards for Golfsmith and PF Chang's, 10% off Coupon for Golfsmith, sleeve of golf balls, etc.
