Taco Del Mar
Categories: Mexican, Fast Food

I decided to drop by the other week and decided that I am apparently a little too picky to enjoy 'em these days.
The staff was nice enough and the food was cheap enough, but... the food just wasn't anything more than something to fill up on. No wonder it's been pretty empty every time I've passed by??
I just didn't find it to be especially flavorful or enjoyable. I couldn't bring myself to eat more than a few of the chips and barely had a desire to finish that burrito.
I didn't feel sick or anything afterwards so as far as Taco Del Mar goes it's a-ok.... but... I think I'll pass on going there from now on.

I decided to sample a savory crepe. I think it was the Queen's... something? It had spinach and other things in there. It was quite good. I ended up feeling super-full about half-way through so I got it the rest of it to-go. I had it for breakfast the next day and thought it tasted EVEN BETTER then. Sah-weeet!
Cost: About $7+tip for a tasty dinner AND breakfast? I'd say that's a pretty big win!
Also: I wasn't in a sub mood, but Kerrie L made me almost wish I had ordered the BBQ beef sandwich! Maybe next time.
There was just one woman working so she took care of taking orders, making food, and serving up (non-alcoholic) beverages. I didn't interact with her all that much, but I'd say she handled it well and didn't have any problems handling our expanding table or keeping our bills separate. (I found two Yelpers already dining there and then about 3-4 others joined around the time my food arrived. Gotta love the new check-in feature on the iPhone app!!)
Guess the only thing I'm still wonderin' about is what inspired them to make that Yelp sticker in their window so big...
The only thing that has bummed me out about this particular TJ's was their ready-made food section.
I was there a couple of times last month for quick on-the-go food and I was rather disappointed by the bland-ness of the Turkey (Pesto?) sandwich and the Lentil Wrap. (That lentil wrap had some kind of dipping sauce that smelled good, but was super liquidy and therefore dangerous to eat in the car.)
The Gorgonzola flavored crackers and the 3-layer hummus, however, were quite tasty on their own AND together. Yum!

They have you check your bags when you arrive, which baffled some people (one woman in particular)... but I personally liked it. Who wants to lug a backpack around for longer than you have to?!?
The cats: I love cats. Those cats didn't seem especially approachable and were super used to the presence of strangers, but they were pretty cute. It was a bit odd seeing cat toys in random spots of the store, but the only time I was "bothered" by that aspect was the mess on the floor around the kitty tower "scratching pad" thing.
I'll be back again when I'm looking for some used books and happen to be in the U-district!

King County Library System - Bothell Regional…
Category: Libraries
They have 2 small private study rooms, and it seems like those are popular enough that people need to reserve ahead of time.
The best part: KCLS has no option to pay for printing, but they let you print 75 pages a WEEK for free. I was SO thankful when I realized that because I still have an account from my "living with my family" days and was able to print off some readings for class. I would have spent almost $10 if I was to print those things on the UW campus!!! Soooo thankful.
A good part: The children's section is a good-sized corner of the library and is well "sectioned off" by stacks of books. When I was there, I barely saw and barely heard kids. I was trying to work on schoolwork, so this made me VERY happy.
The worst part: This library seems like a very popular spot for local high school students to study, and while some of them are fine.... well, some of them are a bit more chatty than I like people to be when I'm trying to focus.
Overall, though, I am rather fond of this library.
They always had enough space for our group of 4-7 and we enjoyed our visits.
Recently I dropped by for a Yerba Mate Latte (I'm addicted!) and some hot cocoa for a friend I was meeting up with. They did a fine job on those two beverages, so no complaints there.
The only bad experience here was one time when I ordered some blended fruity beverage and I decided to ask them to "hold the ice." The problem was that I failed to realize that it meant I'd basically just be getting some very sweet syrup in a cup... and the staff didn't bother to tell me that.

I was in a beer mood and learned that peroni was on tap, so I was perfectly happy.
I was very thankful that the owner extended the happy hour for our party! I didn't have more than that one beer, but I'm sure other people took advantage of that. Oh and the staff ALSO provided us with some small bites that were nice. Olives, cheese, white bread w/ olive oil & balsamic. I loved it!
Ummm... and that leaves the space. I am very much a fan of the space. Cozy and warm and good. Even the bathroom was nice, with the exposed brick and red lighting that I love so much. (The only downside was that there was just one toilet for the whole bar.)
So anyway... had a great time! I'll be back! It'll be weird to be there with just a few people instead of basically taking over the venue by having a party of about.... 25.
Quite possibly the most important part: Thank you Nick H & Heather H for being pretty darn awesome and organizing this little get-together!!
ps: I noticed nobody has reviewed the event yet (and this listing already existed - thanks to Katy??), so I went for it. :)

It's a little bit on the "odd" side. They have mini-mart prices but they're a little more like a grocery store than a mini-mart. They have a produce section and a deli. Sadly nothing in the deli section looked appetizing to me.
My original goal was coffee, but I didn't manage to find it here.
It's.... convenient and I was able to get at least some of what I wanted. I see no reason to give them anything less than the "a-ok" 3 stars!

Po Dog Hot Dogs

So the fancier dogs cost more than what you'd expect to pay for a hot dog. Perhaps even the plainest dog is a little more expensive than you're used to.
But you know what? They have a whole restaurant where you can sit down and relax.... and they have BEER. So, frankly, the extra cost makes sense to me (compared to a hot dog stand).
Plus I hear some of the fancier dogs are quite amazing. And that bun was not the run-of-the-mill hot dog bun. It was quite good! I had the regular dog and while all the free toppings (relish, onions, etc?) were piled high and made it a little hard for me to dig in.... I liked it. A lot. And I enjoyed my beer, too.
Oh, and they have chipotle ketchup. I love ketchup with an unusual (for me) twist! (I have a thing for the coriander ketchup @ the Knee High, too.)
I'm so glad I decided to come out for the Capitol Hill Blog happy hour that was hosted here! (Everybody paid for their own dogs, the near-by Emerson Salon bought a round of beer. I think the Po Dog people were the ones that decided to randomly give us fries at some point...)
Also:
There was no "waiter service" exactly, but they did bring us our hot dog orders.
There was a pitcher of water and cups near the ordering area for any customers who wanted some.

Mega Party Bang Bang! Featuring: Captain Kick…

There is lots of space and I definitely see potential for nice gatherings because of that. It felt a little bit hidden, so I wonder how the different nights vary. I went on a Monday night and it was pretty empty, but that is (hopefully) not always the case.
The bartender served us up some waters and we each had a French 76. It was quite delicious and a wonderful drink to just sip on as we chatted. I loved that the lemon peel was tied into a knot!
The only thing I found myself missing here was the existence of small plates with little things for us to munch on while we sipped. I was pretty hungry and was a little sad to see absolutely no food on the menu.
In general, though, I very much enjoyed my first Still Liquor experience and would happily return for more.
