Taste Of Texas Wine A

Texas grows wine grapes?  Yep.  Quite a variety on their 400+ vineyards.  They do it big in Texas, as we all know.  I wandered about the River Walk and decided to go take a boat tour and happened upon A Taste of Texas Wine.  It's unfortunate that they tuck it away in the little arcade that it's in, but I received a very thorough education about grapes grown in Texas and the wines they produce.

Some of the reds can be a bit pricey for a wine region that isn't so prominent  (the two I liked were $27) but the lighter bodied reds were a nice diversion from my jammy, peppery Cali Cabs and Australian Shiraz choices.

Definitely stop by and have a chat and pick up some libations for your cruise down the river.

If your reason for visiting San Antonio is to go to the Alamo, then stay here.  A walk out the back door and there you are (too bad it took me oh...about 18 hours to figure that out.  I'm like a man.  I hate asking directions)

I was here for a work conference, and I must say, I enjoyed my 24 hours in San Antonio.  The Hyatt was lovely - the food was tasty (they have migas on the breakfast buffet...try it) and rooms comfortable.  I would definitely choose to stay here again considering its location on the River Walk.

I'm sure they thought it blasphemous that I ordered a Cab Sav at a brewery....

I quickly got with the program and I've been a bit spoiled by Meantime beer. (A little insider birdie told me that Meantime will be sold in Chicago soon?  Move over Goose Island...)  I don't remember THAT much about drinking here (and you can correctly assume that is because I was drunk most of the time I was here), but the ambience of the Old Brewery is classy, comfortable, and cool.  You can pop in after work, on the weekend, or whenever you feel like having a pint...which for most Londoners....is anytime.

First off, I'm a dedicated and devoted wine drinker.

However, The Union holds a special place in my heart - it's where my fiance took me on our first date, and it's the place where I learned to really like beer.  I don't remember how many pints I consumed here (or at the Meantime for that matter) but obviously it was enough for me to agree to a long distance relationship (4000 miles and an ocean.  yep.)

I actually haven't eaten at the Union, but they serve draught beer from the Meantime and I remember having a wheat beer that was particularly tasty and at 3 quid a pint, I found it a beautiful addition to my romance with London and one of its (previously) lifelong inhabitants.

The Royal Observatory left a lot to be desired in terms of observatories, but I will say that it is fascinating (after climbing that bloody MOUNTAIN) to stand atop of the peak and look out on the whole of London.  (OK I admit I took satisfaction in looking my nose down at the 1%-ers and working bods on Canary Wharf)

Vicky and Bert are gracious hosts and you could easily spend 8 hours wandering about the V&A.

I adored the Tate Modern, but I think the V&A is my favourite British museum.  I was here almost a year ago with a friend and the best part is the costume closet.  Unfortunately, I lost all of my pictures of me and Jane doing acrobatics in costumes when I lost my iPad in O'hare (sob sob)  I do have sort of a strange and disturbing crush on David Tennant, so I admit I was glued to the movie screen where some of his theatre work played.

Jewelry section was fantastic and the cast courts are ridiculously impressive and you have to constantly think, how the hell did they do that, considering they are all replicas of important works of art in history.

It's not this situation,
I just need a consultation,
About my hair.

I'm very systematic
Glad you were diplomatic
About getting me a chair.

(yeah, yeah)

You're not the only one that cuts it
Not the only the one that colours it,
That's the honest truth.

Not the only one with shampoo,
Not the only one to condition too,
Hope no one loses their booth.

I could have potentially had an awful experience at George today.  I had a gift certificate for a cut and I decided to tack on a colour service as well.  I have a hairdresser I routinely see.  When I arrived, I was greeted and given a cuppa tea, and even George himself stopped by to say hello, but my colour stylist was running late.  He came to apologize after a while, because he was running behind.  40 minutes behind.  He asked what I wanted to do, and I said I'd reschedule because I had some other things on my Saturday plate.   My colourist apologised profusely and then offered my colour service at an appropriate discount.  I found that more than adequate and I don't make a stink if people make amends for mistakes.  It happens.

Unfortunately George caught wind of this...calendar snafu and he got the right arse with the receptionist.  I felt bad for her because it wasn't her fault, but he promptly moved to recitfy the situation.  I got the haircut today (which was interesting because I caught the what the hell do I do with this black woman's hair? vibe) and i will return for the colour service on a different date.

Thanks guys, you handled this very well, and I shall return.

Georgie Porgie, pudding pie,
Moroccan Oil is still too high
Georgie Porgie, pudding pie,
You saved the day, I can't lie.

Oh MoSex...should be helping me get mo' sex, but it was kind of dull, you know?  The sex machine exhibit was crazy as all get out but the condom exhibit (while necessary) was pretty dull, and all that orange writing on grey walls was likely to kill my eyes

I mean, you should go.  It's museum-y, but the subject matter is of course er...provocative - and it's cool that the entrance is right into the gift shop.

Oh, they do give away free lube at the coat check in the basement.

Just sayin'.

Elotes - check.

Ropa vieja - check.

Moros y Cristianos - check.

Tostones - check.

You know, the elotes were a nice surprise (I usually don't expect them in a Cuban joint, but definitely Mexican and even Puerto Rican at times) and the food was great.  I love the 50s Havana posters that decorate the place, making you feel like you're actually in Cuba (although you're really in a cramped little diner in NYC).  The food was delicious and the margaritas were fine.  Perfect for a crapass rainy day like Saturday was.
