I had a clogged drain over the weekend and called a few places to get it fixed. I first called Handyman Matters and then Power Plumbing. Handyman Matters called me back first and came out to try and fix it. They didn't have all the equipment to do the job and so I had to call Power Plumbing. I called them at 1:30 on a Monday and by 2:30 the plumber was there. He knew instantly what the problem was and had all the equipment to get it fixed. It took him about an hour and he had the issue completely fixed. He was extremely courteous and knowledgeable and was just a really nice guy.

They are a little pricier than Handyman ($85/hour versus $130/hour), but they can the job done quickly and professionally and have all the equipment to get it done the first time. I would definitely recommend Power Plumbing again for other plumbing jobs.

So let me start my review by explaining the situation. We had a clogged drain in our kitchen and called a few places to see who could fix it. Handyman gave me a call back and was very friendly about scheduling an appointment. I was able to have them come out within a couple of hours of them initially calling me.

When they arrived, the handyman guy got right to work trying to fix the drain. He even went to the hardware store to get some replacement parts which were needed. However, I asked him to try and see if he had unclogged the sink prior to getting the new parts, as it didn't matter whether the parts were busted or not if the sink was still clogged. He went and got the parts anyway. Ah well. Now we have the new parts installed, but when he installed them, the sink was still clogged. At this point, he had been there for two hours, which I was fine with, but without the sink being fixed, which I was not fine with. He then said, well, you need to get a "real" plumber out here with the right equipment.

At this point, I wasn't really upset as he was working the entire time to fix the issue and it was legitimate that he didn't have the right equipment. What I would suggest is that Handyman doesn't market themselves as being able to fix clogged drains if they cannot fix them due to a lack of equipment. That would be like me saying "Of course I can do all of your financial planning" when really I only know how to do a few things in Excel.

I did have some other projects for him to work on around the house, so I had him stick around to work on those, while I called Power Plumbing and had them come out to fix the issue. Overall, Handyman is really good at what they do, it's just that I think they overstepped their bounds on this plumbing issue a bit. Show owner comment »

I've walked past this place a number of times while visiting the Green City Market and always wanted to go here. I had the chance this morning and I was not let down. It was my parents, my sister, and my fiance. We made reservations for 12:30 for 5, but arrived around 11:30 and they had no problem accommodating us. I ordered the french toast, which is the perfect portion size, and I also had the bloody mary I've been hearing so much about on here, which was equally good. It comes with a Miller High Life 7oz. beer back, which I more than appreciated. Overall, the ambiance is fantastic for a bright summer morning, the prices are totally reasonable (5 people for brunch and drinks was $99 w/o tip), and the service is quick and friendly. If you are down in this area and looking for breakfast or brunch, stop in. I cannot say enough good things.

These guys were great. They moved my stuff last weekend. 3 guys arrived right on time with a truck. I had most of my stuff completely packed in boxes or bags. I had read here that one thing people didn't like about them was the amount of tape they used, which they charge for, so I had prepared to tape most of the stuff myself. I only had a couple of couches and mattress to tape. They ended up taping several more items beyond the couches and mattress (dresser, and side tables), but didn't charge me for anything besides the tape. We moved all my stuff into a storage unit on Irving Park and the entire process took over the allotted 3 hours (about 3.5 hours). I thought they were going to charge me for that as well, but didn't. So overall, I would definitely recommend these guys again. Give them a call if you are looking for fast, efficient movers.

We ordered delivery from here the other night. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff, but I think in general the food from here is not the best. We ordered pineapple duck and strawberry duck, which both sound appealing at first, but once you get them they are really fatty and not much beyond the names. The soup was pretty good, crab rangoon was pretty good, but the sushi also left something to be desired. There are other places you can go in the city and get much better.

This place is fantastic! Hands down the best mexican restaurant I have been to in Illinois. Now living in Chicago, that's a bold statement, but they had everything perfect. The margarita's were not too heavy on the booze, not too light either. The food was excellent and perfectly seasoned. Overall, I'd recommend El Rancherito to anyone, from Northern or Southern Illinois.

So my girlfriend and I went here the other day for dinner. I know now, but at the time I wasn't sure why we were the only people in the restaurant on a Thursday night at 7.

We ordered two skewers of pork and chicken, flautas, and some guacamole. The guacamole arrived first and was straight avocado. No lime, no salt, no tomato, no cilantro, nothing. Just avocado. We had them replace the first one, and the second arrived with what I can only describe as twenty jalapenos squeezed over it. It was friggin' hot, inedibly so.

We then received the skewers which were incredibly dry and under-seasoned. And to top it off, we received the flautas, which honestly looked like something out of the freezer section of the grocery store.

Our waitress was very pleasant and actually made a comment of "the food here is actually pretty bad" when we pointed out the guacamole issue.

If you are thinking of eating here, don't. Go to Chen's down the street. They have great Chinese food and really good drinks, or try Twist. They also have pretty good food.

Don't go here.

 Update - 7/27/2008
So my girlfriend and I went back for our anniversary this weekend. Again, it was incredible. Carl, you have one of the best restaurants in the city. We can't wait to move to this neighborhood so we can come by more often. Thank you so much for making our anniversary a memorable one. Hope you enjoyed the champagne.

We had the yakuza beef (my favorite), black pepper and mint lamb chops (another of my favorites), goat cheese tarts, vegetable ravioli, and lightly fried tilapia with chorizo. The black peper and mint lamp chops were divine. The truffle added to the potatoes makes everything melt in your mouth. And I learned a new batter recipe from the chef - equal parts beer and flour. It was the lightest fried fish I think I've ever had.

All in all, I think you are a moron if you believe any of the reviews that say that this place is anything less than five stars.

Go Team Rad!

Between is fantastic! My girlfriend and I went there on Friday and everything was delicious. I had the Yakuza Beef, which is definitely spicy, but absolutely delicious. We also had the goat cheese tarts, the beef baturas, and the veal BLT's. Oh my god! I'm not one for veal, due to ethical treatment issues, but as soon as I put them in my mouth, I was over that. They are divine!

We also had several cocktails, which were equally delicious. I like the Guavarita and at the behest of our waiter, I also had a couple Bloody Mary's, which were equally delicious.

I agree with other reviewers in that this area is still transitioning and it's kind of "out on it's own", so I'd go check it out before it either disappears due to slow business or gets too popular to get a good seat. Regardless, I'll be back soon to support them.

My girlfriend and I went here a year ago when we first started dating. We were staying in another part of the city, but heard that Old San Juan had a lot to offer. Walking around downtown, we came across this place and walked in. I think we went in on a Thursday night, so it was really slow, so we just sat at the bar and the bartenders made us some fantastic drinks. They talked with us and gave us a bunch of drink recommendations, along with free drinks. We'd already had dinner, but they recommended we come back Friday night for dinner.

Arriving the next night for dinner was an equally amazing experience. We had tuna carpaccio, duck breast, a beef dish I can't remember right now. Everything was simply amazing and the decor was fantastic. Low light ambiance and chandeliers throughout. It's very romantic as well as delicious. If you're visiting Puerto Rico, you should definitely check this one out.

My girlfriend and I went here on a Friday night and thought it was really cute. We got there around 7, walked in with no wait, and were immediately seated in a booth. The booths have microsuede and there was a stained glass window above our booth. It was really cute.

When asked what we wanted to drink, I asked if they had mojitos. I was informed they didn't. No big deal. What beers do you have on tap? We don't have any. Ok...so what do you have? Well, we have martini's. Ok, what would you suggest. Try the key lime.

So I did. It was actually really good. Then we ordered dinner. We both got specials - she ordered talapia cooked in a banana leaf and I ordered a seared steak over spinach and fingerling potatoes.

The steak was absolutely perfectly cooked. The tilapia was raw. So they brought her another, but it definitely took the whole meal experience down a few pegs.

Overall, I thought it was an "ok" dinner aside from everything else. Then we got the bill. $100 with tip. $100? Seriously? We had two martinis and dinner. The entrees we ordered were each $23 and $25 a piece, and for the ingredients and portions, it definitely wasn't worth that price.

So the bottom line is - go in knowing what to expect and you will enjoy this place. Otherwise, there are other options in the area with a wider selection of drink options and cheaper entree offerings.
