Road Runner Sports

I bought a pair of shoes here two years ago, and now two years later I see a charge of $24.99 for "Road Runner Sports VIP Club renewal." At no point did anyone in this store mention any annual fee when I checked out. I don't even remember any discussion of it at the register other than if I gave them my address they would give me a free pair of socks or something like that.

I've never returned to this store after being deluged with junk mail since I gave them my address. This VIP membership thing is a sleazy tactic. I've put in a chargeback through my credit card and I am filing a complain with the Better Business Bureau.

Not the greatest Chinese food in the world, but good. We went for dim sum and had: sweet rice, two types of dumplings, steamed shrimp, and beef chow fun. The tea is of the teabagged variety rather than loose-leaf.

They recently remodeled here and the decor is nicely done. There is a raised covered cabana seating area in the middle. The coolest thing inside are the intricately-detailed model ships suspended from the ceiling.

The bill was the best surprise. All this food for only $22!

Roti8 Rotisserie & Bar

I came here for a birthday party seated at a long table with about a dozen others. The waiter set up us with drinks and then enthusiastically went into a detailed description of the process of creating the restaurant's specialty: the rotisserie chicken. We learned every facet of the chicken's life, from birth to rotisserie, to the point where I felt I knew the poor little guy so well I didn't want to eat him.

When the chicken arrived, I can describe it in one word: salty. I think restaurants these days are going way to far in the salt department with the misconception that salt=flavor, and this place is no exception. I even asked around and 4 of 5 in our group used "too salty" to describe the chicken as well. Everything else was decent.

The inside of the restaurant is nice, but the lighting isn't well-balanced. While most of the restaurant is dimly lit with soft floodlights from above, I was seated directly below a spotlight pinpointed on me with a luminosity brighter than the surface of the sun. I had to shade my eyes to see the people across from me. To our waiter's credit, he at least pretended to have someone try to turn down this limelight, but nothing could be done about it.

Can't go wrong with this place: great food, nice setting, good service, and low prices. I love the pad thai--they know how to do it right. The soups ain't bad either--some of them are loaded with tons of good stuff.

The interior isn't overly fancy, but nicely put together with little thai accoutrements abound. There's a small but well-stocked bar near the front. Parking usually isn't too difficult at night--all you have to worry about is if your car will still be there intact when you emerge with a belly full of thai food.

Walked in and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is decked out in Latin/Salvadorean decor with Latin music piping through the speakers.

We tried the following: pupusas, dried chicken sangria soup, and yucca pork. The pupusas are small but inexpensive. Everything was pretty good, especially the yucca pork. Nothing was overly greasy which is a plus in my book

I saw other reviews about poor service, but we experienced nothing but friendly and attentive service with a smile.

I didn't even realize this place is part of the Hilton until I began the very long journey to the restrooms which took me through the lobby, around corners, and down long halls. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance with a huge industrial-like horse sculpture in the center of the place which also serves as the restaurant's logo. I thought the place could have used a little music, however.

We had the 1/2 chicken and the ribeye. While the food isn't particularly anything to write home about, it was certainly good. I'd give Urban Tavern a solid 3.5 stars, but I'll round it up to four because our waiter was attentive and friendly as can be!

I ate here right after this place was reincarnated from Little Joe's.

Since their liquor license was still pending, I will have to write this trying to imagine a beer next to my plate instead of the glass of ice water. There were only a few other people in the restaurant, and whenever a new group came in, they would end up leaving when they realized there was no alcohol.

There are TVs behind the bar, but the view of the screens is partially blocked to the rest of the restaurant by the lighting fixtures at the bar.

I had a margarita pizza which was decent-sized and tasted good--crispy on the bottom just like it should be. The salads and pasta dishes were not bad either. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

BorrowLenses

My one and only experience with borrowlenses went like this:

Booked my lens, uploaded every detail of my identity to their website, bought additional insurance on my camera policy to cover the lens, booked a whale watching cruise, and booked a trip to safari west (plus scheduling a day off work). In other words I planned a 3-day weekend revolving around the lens I reserved.

After all that, got a call the night before my scheduled pickup and was told the lens was overbooked and unavailable.

This leads me to believe that one of the following is true:

(1) The website is unable to track inventory of available equipment.
(2) My reservation was dropped in favor of a more preferred customer.

Either case is completely unacceptable.

As you might imagine, I'm not at all happy about this.

I was a big fan of this place and ate here regularly... that is until today when I found a piece of chewed gum pressed against the foil on my burrito. This didn't accidentally land in my bag during the three blocks I walked with it because I had the bag completely closed.

Absolutely disgusting. I'll never return.

King of Thai Noodle House

Not the world's greatest Thai food, but it is good. The pad see ew noodles are a little too sweet for my taste and the portions aren't huge. So 3 stars for the food.

But this place earns an extra star for low prices--I mean wow what a deal. And $2 pints of ice cold Sierra Nevada! You can't beat that.

There are plenty of nice TVs all around too, although the sign on the front door warns: "We are a Thai restaurant allowed to have TVs. Please don't call us a sports bar." Ok, fair enough--I will make sure to order food if I happen to stop in for beers and Giants sometime.
