Thai Aroma

I had ordered from the North Ave. location a few times and was very disappointed. A friend suggested that I try the Pad Thai again, but Thai Style. So I ordered from this location, hoping it would be better. Some things never change.

The Pad Thai was flavorless, even after I dumped some Tom Yum on top. The soup was actually not that bad, but not the best I've had. The crab rangoons were really bland, they tasted like watered down cream cheese. I had pot stickers as well, and while they did have flavor, they reminded me of the kind that comes in a frozen Lean Cuisine. Small, soft, and crunchy at the same time.

Kingston Mines

I had avoided going into Kingston Mines for years despite the good things I'd heard about it. Why? It has horrible curb appeal. From the street, I imagined a claustrophobic, crowded, dark lounge.

I couldn't have been more wrong! I finally made it there last night for a birthday party, and the place is awesome! Not only is it really bright and spacious inside, the staff is over-the-top nice and the service is great. I barely had to wait for a beer, the waitress was always right around the corner. The prices weren't bad either.

I love how the place has two rooms so the music never stops. It also gives the option to relax and talk in the room that isn't currently hoppin'. I walked by the kitchen and the menu looked enticing... perhaps I will sample it when I come back!

After two years of living a block away from Primo Pizza, I finally decided to stop in. I guess I had always thought it was just a pizza place, but I was surprised when I walked in and the menu included all of the standard Chicago favorites.

The Gyros, Italian Beef, and Pizza are all decent, but nothing is really spectacular. Just above middle of the road I guess. The staff is really awesome though. They are really friendly and are always watching a Chinese or Spanish TV station.

One awesome thing about Primo is that they take credit cards with no complaints! Very rare for a Beef Stand.

My Grandma from Michigan is a huge Tigers fan, so when she came to visit she was really excited about heading to the Fifty/50 for lunch.

The food is absolutely wonderful! Especially the onion rings. They are quite possibly the best onion rings I have ever had. And they come on a spindle!

The burger that I had was substantial, hot, and fresh. I also tried the pork barbecue, and it wasn't bad! I'd like to stop in at night sometime (sans Grandma) and see what the bar has to offer.

Marks Chop Suey On Halsted

Mark's is great! All of the dishes that I have tried have something just a little different from standard Chinese fare.

The Hot & Sour soup is some of the best that I've had! It's not watered down. It's very tangy and spicy. The Crab Rangoons were quite tasty as well. I also had the Orange Chicken- it is super intense!

As mentioned in other reviews, the service is a little lacking on the friendly side. But when you get the check, it doesn't matter. Mark's is CHEAP!

Flaco's Tacos

The fare at Flaco's is really tasty- a notch up from the regular taco joints around the city. It's also a little more expensive.

I was disappointed that the Picadillo couldn't be ordered without potatoes, but the steak tacos were great. I also would have liked to order a "dinner" with beans and rice, but I didn't see an option on the menu.

The decor is really cool- almost like the Potbelly of Mexico. The restrooms were spotless! In fact, they were probably the cleanest I've ever seen at a fast food type place. Nice!

Blue Angel Restaurant - CLOSED

The Blue Angel is family dining at it's finest! The menu is huge, and it includes anything that you or your grandparents would like to munch on. In fact, there are so many offerings that it's really hard to choose. Hot Roast Beef Sandwich, or Prime Rib, or Gyros? Hmm...

The decor is nostalgic, and the booths look like slices of bread. There are some Greek columns and art-deco sconces. But true to the name, the place is themed after the Blue Angels air stunt team. Kind of an interesting idea.

I did have the Hot Roast Beef, and it was delicious, straight from Grandma's kitchen. The mushroom soup was wonderful as well. The Philly Sandwich comes on a Panini, which was weird, but I was told it was also very tasty.

The service was very nice, the waitress and bus-man were always checking in even though they were busy. I will definitely return when I have a need for comfort food!

This place wasn't as cool as I thought it would be from friends' recommendations, but it wasn't all that bad. The liquor drinks with funny names were tasty, though expensive. I recommend the Double-Wide.

The bartender was sure to make me reconsider when I ordered a yucky drink (it would be cool if they listed out what's in the drinks to avoid that.) and I was very glad that she did.

There was a country rock cover band playing, if you can call an old guy playing way too many notes on the guitar so you can't hear the rest of the band that. But the Bud Light girls and their bean bag game made up for it. I wish I had a chance to try the food.

I had a GREAT time here when I was in town. A killer southern rock cover band was playing and the place was jumpin'. The crowd was excited, and everyone seemed to be having fun.

The shots are really creative, and CHEAP! The beer was inexpensive as well, $2 Shiners among others. The bartenders were really friendly and speedy. Definitely my favorite bar of the evening. I'll be back to visit next time I'm around those parts.

Beijing Gardens

Neighborhood: Uptown

The food at Bejiing Gardens is some of the most bland Chinese food I've ever had. The egg rolls tasted like salad with no dressing.

The General's Chicken was really dry dark meat, and tasted especially gross with the thin tasteless sauce it came with. I had to combine it with the too-vinegary pot sticker sauce just to make it edible.

The pot stickers had a weird ginger thing going on that made them taste medical, though they were the best part of the meal.

The Crab Rangoons were really bland, but I could tell that they might be tasty if the filling wasn't mostly cream cheese. I won't order from this place again, though they did deliver pretty quickly.
