These are the best straberries! I always buy 3 baskets for $9. They do have other produce, but I never buy it - even though it looks good. The hours are sporadic. The berries are always perfect.

The food here is truly home cooked. Our sandwiches were tasty and the potato salad rocks. The kids had some yummy clam chowder since it was a friday. The pie is excellent. We had the chocoate cream and it far exceeded any chain pie. Look for the electric blue fountain when you are cruising down the road. I doubt that this place is ever busy. Our bill for four was also quite reasonable. We have eaten at the nearby steakhouse on previous drives, but prefer this low key place. Just look for the royal blue fountain in front.
The beer is great. My particular favorite is the red rye. We have eaten salads, steaks, fish and chips and hamburgers there. All the food is tops. It is a bit expensive. The best part is that they have food that children like and the atmostpere is not too rowdy or stuffy for children.
We found this place on yelp as out of towners we were not disappointed. The chile reannos were tops. The tamales were excelent. Thier posole as tasty. The beans arge good to. Spoapillas are enormous and good. A fabulous find for tourists and locals alike

Parking is now $8 at the Getty Center. The nice restaurant - not the cafe - is very good. I just had the vegetarian fritata and a small salad and it was good. The bread is fabulous. My check was $17 - a lot for lunch for one, but the view was spectacular...not to mention all the great art I got to see after lunch. Reservations are recommended at the restaurant at the Getty, but I just showed up on a Tuesday at 11:30 and there was no problem getting a table for one.
I should have listened to the yelpers and ordered the chicken, rice and beans. I really was not that into the crab crepe dish with the icky creamed spincah. I will go back because the outdoor atmosphere is great and I'm just convinced I ordered the wrong thing off the lunch specials menu. The neighborhood is fabulous - there are about 6 wonderful antique marts in walking distance of the restaurant.

Clearman's North Woods Inn

This place is very nostalgic for me. I always get the fried chicken and a potato with gravy. This is what I used to get as a kid. I always take half home. The salads are great. So is the bread. Going to the North Woods Inn is like stepping back in time. The food really hasn't changed since I was a child in the mid 1970s.

I can only drink Diet Coke with Splenda....the aspartame stuff really bites compares to this newer concoction. We have had it on the east coast for a couple of years. It is newer to the western states. I really love Splenda Diet Coke so very, very much.
Other Splenda soft drinks are good too...with the exception of Starbucks Double Shot Light with Splenda...it is no good. The Double Shot with sugar is the way to go if you need a buzz.
Beware of Baking with Splenda...I've only done this once. The chocolate chip cookies were dry, but my family liked them...but they eat anything.
I have Splenda for coffee, but I'm really into a wee bit of sugar or nothing but milk in coffee. Splenda is good in tea - especially in the Starbucks flavored ice teas. Tell them not to put any sugar in your ice tea at Starbucks and try the Splenda instead. It really works well with fruit flavored tea.
I just hope they don't find it causes cancer or brain damage someday.

Since this place is so close to home, I just had to check it out.
I got a strawberry crepe and a cafe du monde (too strong) and came up with a check less than $6 for a small breakfast...larger breakfasts would run you a few dollars more.
This place is not open Wednesdays and is only open until 2 p.m. There are a lot of regulars who go here.

I'm eager to try the lunch crepes someday soon.

My husband proposed to me officially at the old Patina many years ago.
Must have been 1993.
The meal was perfect. The best food I've had outside Paris. Really, really special food. The service is beyond good.
I want to try the new Patina...perhaps for my next anniversary....perhaps for my birthday. The wine we drank was from Alsace - my ancestor's home.
They had these scallop egg roll things for appetizers that were just beyond words. I had squab which was really better than you would think. I do not remember desert. It was just fabulous. I really truly want to eat there again in the near future.
