I had dinner at the MET Bar over the weekend and was disappointed with the food.
At the table there were several sirloin orders, a few skirt steaks, several hamburgers, and various sides including spinach, parmesan truffle fries, and onion strings.
I had the Seared Yellow Fin tuna--despite all the elaborate ingredients the dish was incredibly bland.
It didn't really taste like anything--just lukewarm tuna, which isn't a bad thing, just not what I had expected.
The skirt steak was salty but cooked perfectly--same for the sirloin.
I tried the MET steak sauce which was a glorified mixture of ketchup, BBQ sauce, and possibly mayonnaise.
I also tried the béarnaise and the red chimichurri sauce.
The chimichurri was a flavor-less oil-y mess and the béarnaise was just right.
The parmesan truffle fries were actually the best thing I tasted.
For dessert, the table had the brownies, the peanut butter cake, and the sundae.
All three desserts tasted very generic, like they were pre-made frozen creations.
As for service, I felt bad for our waiter because he seemed overwhelmed by the large size of our party--but he was still attentive and the food arrived fairly quickly.
Overall, I may give this place another chance but it's unlikely I'd go out of my way to revisit.

Wintuk - Cirque du Soleil
Category: Performing Arts
Neighborhood: Fashion District
I've been to a few shows--Ka, Varekai, La Nouba, etc and the first thing I noticed was that the Wintuk stage is super small [technically you can blame all of my gripes on WaMu theater's small size].
There's really no room for aerials or acrobatics and most of the "action" is restricted to talking lamp posts, jump-roping, bikers, rollerbladers, and lots of dancing.
Also, the second act was kind of like WTF...really slow and bleak.
This show would definitely be great for kids and if you can grab tickets at a discount, even better.
The ending was nice, ha.

Stout NYC
Categories: Irish, Pubs, American (Traditional)
Neighborhood: Fashion District
My boyfriend and I had tickets to Wintuk [review to come for *that*] and we wanted to grab a quick pre-show drink and some eats and Stout did the trick.
Although Mickey's and Blarney Rock next door looked pretty gnarly, we were glad we went to Stout: TVs galore + NFL Sunday ticket + lots o'beers + food = goodness.
They have TVs everywhere, so no matter where you sit [okay, if you sit in the bathroom then you're screwed] you can get a view of whatever game that's on.
I had the Brat burger which was good although a bit salty--but probably too salty for most people [salt is my friend].
Both the beers and the food came to the table very quickly and the waitstaff were very attentive, maybe too attentive [various waiters asked us 'how we were doin' about 6x].
This place is pretty big, so it'd definitely be a good place to convene with a group of people to watch a game...or just a good place to booze and eat.
I ordered a yellow & scallion roll and spicy salmon roll with soy paper--my lunch mate got an avocado roll and a sweet potato roll.
But first, soup & salad.
The salad had a strange miracle whip-esque dressing [not the usual ginger]--it wasn't a bad dressing, just really weird.
Soup was standard miso.
Now for the sushi: both rolls were okay.
My main complaint was that the rolls were falling apart. Also, there was a much larger fish to rice ration than what I like...probably good for some people but not for me.
The inside is sort of reminds me of a doctor's waiting room except this waiting room has hibachi tables in it, so maybe not a doctor's waiting room then?
My friend told me that this place has a heavy birthday crowd [hibachi], so I guess this place is: good for birthdays and good for a cheap sushi lunch.

The Counter - Custom Built Burgers
Category: Burgers
I wanted a burger, so I ordered one.
I love burgers, a lot--so I don't really mind paying [almost] any price for one...especially a good one, and the one here was pretty good.
This was a rare solo dine-out for me, so I opted to sit at the counter.
1st order of business, I got a Blue Moon.
2nd I reviewed my burger choices.
1/3 lb [cooked medium] is more than enough for me, so I piled on grilled onions, bacon, blue cheese, pickles and steak sauce packed between an English muffin.
Burger came out super quick and was cooked perfectly.
All the toppings were just what I was looking for...my only complaint was the English muffin soakage.
I usually cut my burgers in half and by the time I finished the first half and went to eat the second, all the steak sauce/juice at soaked up into the muffin making it a crazy, sloppy mess.
Not a big deal but totally unattractive eating ensued.
The fries were meh.
Shoe string fries aren't my favorite and cold/over-done shoe string fries are the worst; no thanks.
Overall, okay place to grab food if you're shopping on that street--but I won't be back though because I'm never in this area.

I went on a Wednesday night around 8pm and it wasn't too busy--me and my two friends easily grabbed a table in the front.
The corny bayou decor didn't bother me but it is very kitschy.
Haven't had any food here but I'd go back and give it a whirl.

The pecorino fondue was pretty good but everything else was eh.
I had the white anchovy with braised leeks and it was really difficult to eat [as other Yelpers mentioned]...also, the whole thing was a sloppy-mushy bland mess.
We ordered a few selections of cheese and that was a huge waste of money because the servings were ridiculously small.
My friend ordered a mixed lettuce salad for her appetizer and it was vinaigrette overload--wilty gross lettuce.
Finally, we sat in a back booth and the light above our table made it feel like we were in a police investigation room.
We asked them to turn the light down but they turned it down so low that we were practically eating in the dark.
No plans to return.

What I like most about this place is the super friendly service.
If you ever grab lunch at the bar, the bartender Tony is great and gets your food to you quickly.
Oh and everything I've eaten here is usually really good--so that makes the higher prices easier to deal swallow.

The menu is similar in style to In-N-Out/5 Guys: limited menu, however, they do go beyond burgers and also offer tofu sandwiches, Caesar salads and mozzarella sandwiches.
I got their standard hamburger: medium doneness, pickles, onions and ketchup--add in a side of fries and a root beer and the total was just under $10.
My burger was pretty delicious but my coworker, who ordered the Western [fried onions, BBQ sauce, and pickles] thought his burger was a tad too salty...I didn't notice this.
The fries were McDonald replicas: standard salty goodness [I like salt?].
Drinks were throwbacks...chocolate soda, RC colas, root beers.
Food order was called quickly, staff was friendly, and the place was blasting good music.
There's enough tables for a small burger party, if one wanted to have a party with burgers.
I'll be back.

The bartender lady was quick and friendly - the whole place seemed very sedate when I was there.
Date
I was only with a few people this time [versus a small army], so everything went much smoother.
This time around I ordered the The Dallas salad w/sirloin [iceberg, tomatoes, bacon, bleu cheese, onions].
It was really delicious--tons of bacon and tons of bleu cheese piled very high atop some non-wilty lettuce.
My sirloin was a nice addition, although you didn't really need it because the bacon was enough meat.
Again, another order of the skirt steak and again, it was perfect [stayed away from the chimichurri again].
Also at the table: the crabcakes and a salmon burger--both were fresh and tasty, especially the crabcakes--more crab less bread crumbs, always a better ratio.
Everything arrived super quick and the waitress was attentive/friendly.
After this trip, looks like I'll be back [I should also point out that I was staying in a nearby hotel so it's a good place to grab some food if you're staying near the Natick Collection Mall...or shopping there].
