Pit Bulls are the most "misunderstood" breed and they are the majority of the dogs that need saving from the euthanasia list so I received MANY emails from the "all volunteer" staff thanking me for "Fostering and wanting to save the Pitties"!
Sarah or one of the other volunteers go in every day and send out an email or emails of the dogs that need to be fostered for anywhere from 1 night (for a dog that just needs a place to sleep before her spay the next day) to a "very pregnant Pit Bull that is so happy she wiggles out of her skin to say hi" (that will need a foster for her and her kids through Christmas).
As a Foster you just have to offer a safe place for whatever dog that needs a Foster that you think is a good match for you. If you receive an email that sounds like a good match - you respond and APA lets TLAC know you are coming to pick up the dog or puppies. No more applications or fees the dog is released to you. So Easy!
I fostered my fist Pup for 2 days before she was ready for her spay and it felt good to give a homeless dog a temporary home and make room for another dog that might get a chance for a forever home.
If you are interested in fostering? Austin Pets Alive makes it easy!

I am so overly impressed by this rescue. Not only do they rescue dogs from death row at TLAC they have a vet that nurses them back to health. And they are one of the few rescues that rescue Pit Bulls on the euthanasia list.
Last week I fell in love with a Pit Bull (Danny) on their website and emailed them to see if they could rotate him from the Parmer Petsmart to a south location so I could meet him without having to make the trek up north. My emails were immediately responded to and they arranged for him to be at the Brodie location closest to my home.
I met Danny yesterday without my Pup and the volunteer Savannah gave me her cell phone number and offered to stay past 8PM if I could bring my pup by to meet Danny that night. It did not work out so this morning I got an email from the adoption manager who offered to let me have a "trial adoption". She said I could pick him up from the Brodie Petsmart and they would hold my 150.00 check until Friday to see if it was a good match "We do not usually offer this to people, but you seem sincerely interested in his well being"....
"Wow" just "Wow" is all I have to say since most rescues make it almost impossible to even adopt from. Unfortunately, both Tessa (the volunteer today) and I agreed that Danny was not a good match for us:(
My next pup will come from APA we are just waiting for the perfect match! -

We just got back from a fantastic all day Valentines Day Party (Sweet Barks Honky Tonk) in the parking lot at Jo's coffee shop on S. Congress thanks to Pets Alive!
We arrived around 1PM and the party was all ready in full party mode - Little Mikey and the Soda Jerks were belting out some twangy George Jones and Johnny Cash covers, couples were dancing, dogs were barking and wagging their tales and there were lots of hay bells to sit on!
There were lots of fun booths to purchase food and doggy treats from and even a super funky vintage girly clothing booth! Peter P. purchased a 4 pack of doggy cup cakes from Hill Country Cupcakes that made my Pup's breath smell like oatmeal cookies when she decided to french kiss me!
I already new about this amazing 501 nonprofit that saves pets from kill shelters; but after today I had to spread the word...
They set up a meet and greet every day in the parking lot next to San Jose Hotel so that is the address that I used. They are waiting on donations to build their own no kill facility; so, please donate if you can either via their website or at one of their adoption sites. Check out their website to find out how you can help. I promise it will make you feel good.
PS. They have a gorgeous Blond Black Mouth Curr that I fell in love with today - it was love at first sight and on Valentines Day...... If he is not adopted soon we might have an addition to the family!!!

What is Pao De Queijo? Well if you are Gluten or Sugar Free you will love the answer.. Pao De Queijo is Cheese Bread that is "All-Natural, Gluten-Free and Sugar-Free". They are sold frozen at the FM or local groceries like Whole Foods Lamar location (check their website for all locations). You bring them home and bake at 400 for 20 minutes and you get crusty on the outside chewy in the middle bread enhanced by Basil and Parm (my favorite flavor) It also comes in Original and Roasted Red Pepper.
Elias and Ben are adorable and so sweet and it cracks me up that their Rio's Brazilian logo is of a topless, big booty Brazilian woman asking "How Do You Rio?" Am I the only one that thinks Wax?
Go get you some Now! and send me a "Thank You"!
I tied my Pup to a handicap pole told her "sit stay" and was in and out in less than 10 minutes with fresh hot made to order breakfast tacos and was back home with still hot tacos in less than 25 minutes.
The Migas Taco was about "As good as it gets!" and I loved that it included so much taco filling (enough for 2 tacos) including avocado and pico at only 2.50! The Migas Taco was more than enough for me - so my Pup got lucky with the Egg, Potato and Cheese Taco that I could only take a few bites of:)
I hate/love the fact that I have to pass this Torchy's every time I exit or enter my neighborhood!
My first thought was "I have not showered, my hands and knees have dirt on them (working in the garden) and what should I wear?"
Until I laughed at my own dirty mind:) Ha Ha 1311 is the Trailer Park!
Man Bites Dog is the newest trailer in the park serving all things a good wiener could offer including Vegan options and sausage.
I ordered a Build Your Own with a Veggie Frank with Spicy Mustard and Coleslaw. The bun was super fantastic yeasty with the perfect palate of spice and crunch of the slaw and the Veg Frank tasted like the real deal! My Grrl Kara was jealous of my wiener choice and tried to convince me that I corrupted her Vegan Soul into ordering the Where's The Beef that includes cheese plus veggie chili and onions. It was worth it!
To the cute guy who bought my dog a 100% Beef Frank "thanks"! She loved it:)
"Are dogs aloud on the patio?" "Yes"
So, I found myself and Pups sharing a table with a Lesbian couple hoping to adopt the same Pup. We hugged and kissed and I wished them the best with Danny. Long personal story short.
Aside from being Dog Friendly this place is super environmentally conscious offering organic and local foods and "happily raised and Eco friendly" meats and Gluten Free Beer AND "Substitutions Welcome" And they recycle and compost!
Odwalla Grapefruit Mimosa 5 stars!!!
Shrimp and Herb Cheese Grits - Hell Yeah!!!!
Wild Salmon, egg whites, spinach and dill on corn tortillas - WooHoo!!!
House made Millet Bread and Potatoe, cabbage, leeks and onion cake!!!!

Even though Rick G. was paying:) the first thing I noticed on the menu was "FREE WHIPPED CREAM" Hell Yeah! 1.35 espresso double Hell Yeah!
My single shot of espresso with a double swirl of "free whipped cream" was as good as it gets. And the free chocolate covered espresso beans!!!
Drive through or walk up - I will be back for sure...

So, when KK invited me to join her ROTD celebration I think "when Hell freezes over' as I look at her "Hell Freezing Over" Friday the 13TH avatar. I would do almost anything that Madame KK asks of me.....
Eat a donut topped with fried chicken and honey butter icing - I did it!
Eat a donut topped with bacon and maple syrup - I did it!
Eat a donut called Gobble Gobble till you Wobble topped with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberries - I did it!
If not for the request from the infamously funny Madame KK I might have never indulged in such indulgent hedonism. And I certainly would not have had so much fun catching up with old friends and making new ones on a Saturday morning involving savory donuts and Prosecco (thanks to Hoa).
Christine must have been high on sugar and dough because she thought she "kissed me bye" and I am pretty sure she left before the Prosecco was passed around;)
My Pup must have been a bit tipsy on maple laced bacon that Rick G. fed her under the table because she had a full on open mouth Lesbian tongue tango make out scandal under the table with her BFF Mindy C.
I Hate that I Love Gordough's.
to be continued...
I am neither but the Pup and I headed over to hang with 2 of our best buds Michelle and Mindy C.
The charge to get in was 10.00 or 5.00 with a children book donation - thanks to Michelle I got in for 5.00.
I could have easily gotten drunk on the free heavy handed Titos and Sweet Leaf Tea (no tip jar) while waiting for Michelle to try on clothes if I were not afraid of losing my way back to her:) This was supposed to be an outdoor event but thanks to to the rain the vendors set up in empty apartments and it was a confusing maze...
There were some amazing upscale Vendors at hugely slashed prices.
I purchased some awesome glow lights for my nieces and nephew for Christmas. And I "think/hope" Annie Ray captured some great Christmas Pics of Mindy and Mia in flashing reindeer head bands!

All the soaps smell so good and the kits are so ecofriendly and prettily packaged. I picked up a Shaving Soap Kit for my Daddy, a Soap Sampler for my Sis and a Naked Soap Bar for myself (it came very highly recommended for my sensitive skin by Maggie). Maggie the bartender even offered me a full refund if I did not like it! I LOVE it! My skin is so sensitive and dry the only soap I can use is baby wash. I am so excited to find an adult bar soap that is so emollient it feels oily in a good way!
