Only got a latte here, but it was very smooth and the coffee was top quality. This is a small cramped indie type of cafe; it's not very cheap, but worth trying a few times. Some of the coffee varieties I've never heard of (a lot of local Portland stuff), but the quality is excellent.

Mawa Kulfi isn't an easy recipe and few places get it right.... it's usually pricey, but it's worth it, calories be damned. Their regular vanilla is very well made too; not loaded with cream and butter fat like the usual recipes, and reminds you of a lighter Italian type ice cream. Great service; A++

This is a good place to take your computer in an emergency. If your warranty's expired and your hard drive crashes, it'll cost you about $180 to do data recovery and reinstall Windows. Not cheap, but definitely lower than Geek Squad or Best Buy. If all you need is data recovery and plan to dump the laptop anyway, it'll run you about $90. Fast and reliable service; turnaround is about 24 hours with most jobs.

Horrible sushi, the sashimi was scary, and those little plates parading around on the conveyor couldn't have been more unimaginative. Slow service too, which was weird since there were only 2 other people in the entire dining room...
This place is at an outlet mall complex close to PDX; I took a chance since I didn't have the time to go into Portland for some decent sushi, but... maybe I should've waited until I got back to SF. The sashimi was half frozen, the salmon tasted like pink rubber, and the albacore was basically... cardboard seared in vinegar. Not coming back here....

No real point in reviewing a gas station with antiquated gas pumps straight out of the 70's and a Vietcong looking guy roving the pumps with a bamboo hat that's lined with duct tape on the outside. This is a weird, somewhat out of the way fuel station, with a cramped mini mart, and a pleasant guy running the store on the inside (the weird guy outside was probably a relative).
But... the point of reviewing this Mini Mart is that it's probably the most accessible fuel stop if you're headed to PDX, and are in dire need to gas up your rental car so Hertz doesn't do it for you and charge you $6.00 a gallon. I don't know if this is by design, but it was very weird not to be able to find any gas station in the surrounding exits prior to getting to PDX. I had some time and took one of the country roads and accidentally bumped into this place. Bookmark it... might come in handy, especially if you travel to Portland often.

Only bought two things there, but they were excellent.
1. Donuts - their plain cake donuts were almost as good as the legendary Stan's in Westwood.... very close.
2. Peanut butter cookies - huge, soft, not too sweet, full of peanuts... this is starting to sound dirty.
Prices are above average here, but the quality is worth it.

This place is along the lines of what you'd find at a Willow St. Pizza; good pizza, and a reasonably healthy Italian menu. It's a popular lunch spot; the retail area is adjacent to several office complexes. If you're traveling on business, this is a nice place to decompress after a long meeting. The garlic bread was excellent; homemade rolls that taste like something between a yeast roll and a ciabatta loaf. The salads are fresh, well made, and the pizza is very good. Light wheat crust recipe, understated / non-greasy sauce and excellent ingredients. Try the chicken and onion pizza with mushrooms; great stuff.

They have good chawanmushi; very hard to find, plus their Donburis are well made. The mochi banana red bean dumplings with ice cream is the house-special dessert; worth trying. The sushi is OK, although I've had better in SF. The Japanese sausage appetizer was a little too greasy; tastes more like a German frankfurter than anything else. Price wise they're a little on the high side. The service is great service here. The hostess was very attentive, but be prepared to wait a while for your order since there's only one guy cooking in the back.
