If the Italians served tapas, I would imagine they'd be like the dishes at Fraiche. Following the recommendations from an article by Johnathan Gold and other Yelpers, my friend and I ordered the Papardelle w/ Short Ribs, Ravioli filled with Peas and Mint, and the Monkfish. At first I was slightly worried that three dishes would be too much for two people, even with my big appetite, but my worries were in vain. Definitely order several dishes bc they are on the smaller side. I loved the texture of the thick noodles of the Papardelle, though both of us thought it was a little too salty. I also wish it came with more of the rib meat. The Ravioli had a sweet taste to it with a very slight hint of mint--delicious! The meal also came with bread and an olive tapenade, which I didn't like, but that's only bc I don't like olives. We also ordered several of their drinks: Blood Orange Martini (aka screwdriver with a fancy name), James Bond Melon Ball (filled with chunks of watermelon and vodka), The Grape (difficult to drink w/ a straw bc the mint and chunks of grapes kept getting in the way--but it was sweet and girly--yum), and a mojito. I can't say I was too impressed with their drinks; they were more style than substance. Dessert was some Italian donut with plums, which was good but was basically, well, a light donut. The service was excellent and our waiter was really friendly. We sat outside, which was nice bc of the weather, but the downside is that ppl are allowed to smoke at their tables. Oh, I went on a Sunday night, and they were booked but they do take walk-ins. We got lucky and didn't have to wait too long for a table to open up.

Since I was in the area for another event, I thought I'd stop by afterwards. As with many other Korean venues, this one had the typical Korean men smoking right outside the building. Thank goodness they don't allow smoking indoors like they generally do in K-town bars -- but then again, this is hipster-wannabe Culver City. Gyenari was surprisingly nice - loved the yellow backdrop. We only got a carafe (pronounced ca-rafe and not ca-ra-fe) of apple soju ($16), but that was pretty gross. It was apple pucker mixed with soju. The two definitely do not go well together, and no, it did not taste like an apple martini. We sat at the bar, and the people around us ordered food, which looked good. However, the couple next to us left their plate of sweet potato fries practically untouched - always a bad sign. I saw that they have a daily Happy Hour from 4-7 with food and drink specials, so I'd probably check that out sometime before committing to a full on dinner.

Tubs Fine Chili

We both got the 12 oz portions, which was more food than I had anticipated. They also sell the chili by the quart, which is 32 oz., (does not include the pita bread but I think the guy said you could get one for $1 each on the side). I couldn't finish the pressed pita bread bowl (nice touch - this way, you don't lose any of the chili either). My friend got the Turkey, and I got the Steak. We both preferred the taste of the Turkey which is a bit lighter than the Steak. We also got an order of the Buffalo Chips, which were slightly soggy - they're basically deep fried potato slices. The total for everything was about $20 ($10 pp), and we were stuffed at the end.
-Hainan Chicken - I've had this once before, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to taste like. It came with a mound of rice soaked in something that tasted like coconut - I wasn't too fond of the taste. However, the chicken was really tender and had almost no fat. It came with three dipping sauces (I liked the sweet dark brown one the best) - one was some chopped green veggie with a gingery taste. This is a very small dish, so I'm glad we had other food to share.
-Wonton Noodle Soup - Wow, these wontons were packed with flavor; and no, this restaurant does not use MSG. Delicious! You can get these with thin noodles or thick. I got them with thin.
-Pork and Rice - Forgot the name of this dish. It came with a good amount of flavored pork and a side of flavored cucumbers. This was also good, though I liked my Hainan Chicken better. However, this dish was larger than the chicken.
-Passion Fruit Iced Tea - I like this only bc it didn't really taste like iced tea at all, so those who like real iced tea will prob not like this too much. It comes with unlimited refills and is very sweet.
The employees were very friendly (possibly family owned?) and greeted everyone upon coming in and leaving. You can get full from one dish, depending on what that dish is and how hungry you are; the dishes were not as tiny as some had described them to be but I definitely would not call them hefty. They also make an effort to make the food look appetizing (nice presentation) unlike most Chinese restaurants. I'll be back!

I remembered when this location used to be a pool hall called Renaissance. It's a really nice looking bar, but the menu is somewhat expensive. They have a bunch of different flavored soju drinks (about $15 for a tiny bottle) and small plates like bacon-wrapped asparagus, which was delicious, by the way. I didn't like the seats too much bc they didn't have any backing (they were basically square-shaped stools). Service sort of sucked. I rang the bell located on the table (those are the best inventions EVER) several times and was ignored, so I had to wave and flag down one of the waiters.

The two of ordered five dishes + 1 dessert, and we were both full by the end of the meal. Here's what we ordered:
-Bacaro Burger w/ Egg - This was larger than a mini burger but not as large as a restaurant burger. It was a very good burger with a juicy patty.
-Pan Seared Scallops - First off, the word "scallops" is misleading. It's really "scallop" - singular. The scallop, however, was very large and succulent. I only had a taste but my friend said it was a very good scallop and cooked just right.
-Panini Sandwich - We got this with mozzarella, basil pesto, and heirloom tomatos. This actually came with two sandwiches slices in four pieces. I wasn't a big fan of this one - didn't like the bread too much.
-Bruchetta - You get a choice of two. We got the Tuscan White Bean, which had whole beans rather than a paste, which is what I had been expecting. However, the bean topping had a lot of flavor and tasted better than I thought it would. The second was the Roasted Garlic, Balsamic, and Basil Pesto. This also came with whole garlic cloves drenched in balsamic and pesto - delicious!
-White Pizza - The was slightly larger than a mini pizza might be with a thin crust. Crust was good; it went well with the wine.
-Moscato d'Asti - My favorite wine! It's light, bubbly, and sweet but not cloying. I was so glad they offered it here.
-Bread Pudding - This was an average bread pudding - nothing spectacular. I had heard a table raving about how delicious it was, so I decided to try it. Goes to show that everyone has different tastes.
There's not parking lot but we were able to find street parking. There were only two servers who had to man the bar and run around with everyone's dishes, but they made it work. I was able to get my water filled enough to make me happy, and the we didn't have to wait too long for our food. I was a little disappointed with the fact that they don't serve bread here - if you want bread, you have to pay like $2 for it. :(
