Super Pho & Teriyaki

Dear Super Pho,

I've had it, you lose a star. OK pho at best, but convienant location. What I don't like is non existant parking, and how you understaffed your place is. 2 in the kitchen and 1 to take orders, pack, and run the register in a full place.

Not to mention your place got smokier then a hole in the wall korean bbq place.

Just doing take out from now on.

Hire more people and get some ventilation.

Dear Jasmine Garden,

Broth: Good
Noodles: Plenty
Meat: Enough
Portion: Big

You are my favorite Pho place in SF. (Tip the pho is not on the dinner menu, so you may have to request a lunch menu to see it)

Dear Goorin,

I don't usually like or wear hats, but something about your style and quality makes me love your goods and I bought my first hat from you. A few hats are a bit pricey but overall they are reasonably priced.

Cheers,

Dear Salt House,

I was charmed by your decor but horrified by your service. We had to wait almost 1 hour for your dinner dish. People who ordered after us got their meals before us, I think I went through 2 or 3 servings of your chewy bread.

And why? Your waitress informed us that the chicken was cooked in a very delicate manner which requires at least 45 minutes.. or someone missed our order. That still doesn't fulfill the full hour gap of wait we had for food.

The food itself was tasty, portions a tad small, but very overpriced and not worth the value. Even if cooking such chicken takes 45 minutes, please warn us next time.

The waitress was we had was very inattentive and realized that she had lost our service made no effort to make it up. The bus boy on the other hand tried hard, and we ended up slipping him tip money that he well deserved and not the waitress.

Dear Pampas,

When you're meat is fresh, it is mouth meltingly good. Thus being so, I recommend eating here when the meats are fresh on the grill and haven't been sitting over the fire for extended periods.

Go for the Picanha, that's the best cut followed by the Alactra. For those who like their pieces more done and or love the coating always ask or the exterior cuts that have developed the nice salty char.

Pair with a nice drink and a stroll through the market/grove this is a definite highlight to the day.

I'll be back asking you to pile the meat high.

Dear Newport Tan Cang,

Your waits are atrocious, you force us to sit at very small cramped tables, and your service is as expected rushed and impolite.

That I've come to terms with for any authentic chinese restaurant and things I can overlook at your delicious selection of seafood. My group was set back at the costs of the lobster tipping our pricing scale per person but every dish was delightful and well made.

The comparison of dishes like your sol fish compared to West LA dishes is night and day. The texture, the flavors, and seasonings definitely jump out at you.

Though I think I probably won't splurge as much as I did last time with the lobster, I'll definitely be back for your clams, fish, and other sea food delicacies again.

Cheers,
-Ed

Dear Portos,

I love your balls in my mouth. Potato Balls.

Despite being overwhelmed and confused at which line you go to, how you order, and what to do about seating I slowly figured it out.

The Horchata Smoothie is to die for as is most of the things we tried minus the sweet croissant.

I can't wait to take bites of that potatoe ball with the meat filling again.

Dear Bennys,

Where did you guys come from? My work decided to order from you and I took upon the challenge of trying your 1/2 rotisserie chicken combo.

Now I'm a Zankou diehard but your garlic sauce has won me over. Different in its own right, your sauce is more liquefied and has a bit more of a acidic zest, which I love. The chicken was tender and moist and nothing more I can say about your rice and beans. The horchata has a bit too much cinnamon for my liking.

But damn its good, I'll be back to try more of your menu. Do you sell that garlic sauce by itself and in a tub?

BRB,

Gaby's Mediterranean Restaurant & Cafe

Dear Gabys,

I've wanted to eat at your establishment for the past few years and I finally gave in. When i walked in the hallway between your restaurant/patio I had no idea where to go.. We stood for a few minutes as waitresses whizzed by and finally stopped one who prompted us that the place is full and we'll have to wait for a seat... Then another came and said pick any spot.. so we started looking, then another came and said its full.. Then another came and said another spot opened in back.. The other 2 came back and agreed..

The table in back didn't have 1 chair, we found a stray chair ourselves and seated and was promptly given pitas and menus by the bus boy (he rocks!).

We got an order of the hummus, lemon chicken, and cilantro salmon. All 3 dishes were delicious, the bus boy was very attentive and nice. The waitresses forgot to bring out salads, never refilled our drinks, and generally ran around and ignored almost everyone.

I'd spend more time writing about the food, but I'll just say this place is good. The service BLOWS. Now I've been to my fair share of restaurants, but this just seemed horrible all around. My advice is to order to go if you can, but if you're up late, can tolerate/expect bad service, and or want to smoke hookah then definitely go here.

I'll pick up some food in the future..

Update - 9/30/2010
Hey Versailles what's happened to you?

The past few trips, your service has gotten worse and ever since you are now touting that new Bottled Sauce your food quality has gone down too. Your garlic sauce doesn't taste the same, it tastes like the bottle stuff you are selling which you claim is the same sauce, but trust me it tastes different.

I come to expect not the best service, but some of your staff is just not attentive at all and pretty rude as they are trying to turn over as many tables as possible. The few times I've done takeout you have given us extremely dry chicken which we had to go back and return.

I still love your food, I just notice its slipping, please don't go down that route!

    Dear Versailles,

I live very close to you, and out of my love for you, I try not to eat at your place too much out of the fear I might get sick of eating at your place.

Do you know how hard it is for me? Everytime I have friends and or family in town, I take them to you. They are always impressed, and now whenever someones back in the area, they clamor for you! I have guests frequently as you can imagine so I have to limit myself!

If I could have my way, I'd eat at your place everyday, but c'mon you know that's not realistic. You must be putting crack in your food or something. Your portions are huge (that means a lot coming from me, seriously), and your price is very affordable.

Despite the long lines, the wait is never too long and though your service can be a bit shabby at times but when its on, its on! If everyone orders your famous chicken, the food comes very quickly sometimes I like to imagine that you have a few plates on standby just waiting for me to stroll in.

When I beat the rush, I kinda like how all your waiters are kinda chilling on your corner waiting for customers to come in.

    I'll see you very soon,

    Ed
