Wild Flour Bread

This place is amazing. Bread I've never seen anywhere baked really well. We picked up a fougasse and goat cheese flat bread the first time we went, plus I had a fine expresso. Then we came back on our way to Osmosis and I had a double chocolate pear scone that blew my mind. I'll go out of my way (required, since Freestone isn't on the way to anything) to go this bakery again.

Dinner here Saturday evening. Restaurant was mostly full. We didn't have quite as good a time as you would expect from the generally laudatory reviews. I'd say the service was okay and the food was mostly good.

We had the fried-egg and priscuitto salad and beet salad, both excellent, for starters. We had the black cod and lamb shank for entrees. The black cod was too salty to be great, but the waiter credited us for the dish so good attitude. The lamb shank was really good, but probably just as much because the lamb itself was great. The wine list is creative and local, ranging from $20 to 80 but no more than that. Had an excellent Flowers pinot noir, which I haven't found at other restaurants for less than $120.

Service took a while to get started. You have to pay $1.50 for the bread, but it's really really good artisanal bread from Sebastopol.

I ate at the former Seaweed Cafe too, but long enough ago that I don't remember much about it. I definitely think this is an upgrade and it is nice to have a real foodie place in Bodega Bay.

Fast food take out inside security at ABQ. They were out of chicken (!) so I ordered the carne adovada burrito. Highly recommended for those who like it hot but still want to taste the carne. The menu says the chopped green chile sauce is "muy caliente", which sounds even hotter. Entirely a pleasant experience, since both sit-down restaurants (Guarduno's and Route 66) have been closed.

Gabriel's Restaurant

I've been going here for ~20 years, usually on the way out of or back to Santa Fe, usually going to or fro Taos. As noted by others, the table-side guacamole is a must for the table. The house margs are good. And the rest of menu is better than noted by others, but not the reason for going to Gabriel's. Perfect spot for families and big groups since it's a big restaurant. Great courtyard for dining outside in the summer time, although you have to avoid the monsoon season.

Pantry Restaurant

My very first time at Pantry Restaurant, which has been around since 1948, and I get to hang with the current owner, Stanley Springly. I ordered the Carne Adovada Burrito (before he sat down with us!). I remarked how the carne adovada was hot like Horseman's Haven and he said he hoped not, since he thinks Horseman's is too hot to taste the carne. So maybe I'm biased because I had the chance (thanks, Tom!) to get to know the management, but this was just right.

Coyote Cafe

I've been going to Coyote Cafe since I started coming to Santa Fe nearly 20 years ago. And that meant the original Coyote Cafe, founded by Mark Miller, the chef who defined Southwestern Cuisine. Now the restaurant is owned by its former chef, Eric Distefano, who now also owns Geronimo. Now the restaurant feels like it's bound by its own history (and that means it must have elk tenderloin on the menu; eh). My corn chowder was delicious. The short ribs were great. The Norteno Margarita was perfect (chile in the salt on the rim & jalapeƱo in mix is what makes it norteno). The wine list lazy and really, really expensive, particularly for being so uninspiring. Service was fine and our waiter got us out on time for the Dionne Warwick show at the Lensic.

Didn't go to Diego's before it became Atrisco. Had a bowl of green chile stew and a glass of water: a good meal for less than $9 seems like a great deal. And the stew was good; great mouth buzz, but too much potato (which is why you can eat hearty for less than $9!).

Restaurant Martin

Restaurant Martin was opened in late September, 2009 by Martin Rios, former executive chef at Old House at Eldorado Hotel, Inn of the Anasazi, and Geronimo, along with his wife, Jennifer. This guy is good! The apps were great, both the roasted quail and the short ribs ravioli, but my pumpkin rissotto was other worldly (and the tomato millefeuille it came with blew my tongue away). Service is spotty; Rafael was good but didn't communicate well and actually waited to pour the wine before he told us that we should have ordered a different one. And when he came back, it turned out they only had half an open bottle of that one!

I come here every time I come to Santa Fe. 10,000 Waves IS Santa Fe. Private hot tubs. Massages. The whole package. What i really and truly and have never had anywhere else is the master's four hand massage: two expert masseuses lift you into a different plane of existence. I never want it to end.

Horseman's Haven Cafe

Sweat forms on my brow. And that's with the red chile on the carne adovada with eggs. I've been coming to Santa Fe since the early 90s and have been too much of a wuss to come to Horseman's, based on everything everybody said about the heat of their chile sauce. Now I feel like a man. But still too much of a wuss to ask for the special hot chile sauce, since the beefy guy behind the counter said the green chile sauce is already 2x hotter than the red when it's served normally. I'm going to have to work my way to being a real man. (And lord knows who Gary G is, but you knocked the Horseman's Haven for not being a 5-star restaurant because it's in a gas station and the decor is low brow? I think the idea is to match expectations and delivery, not to expect something that is never going to be delivered!)
