Sun Ya Seafood Restaurant

If you're looking for dim sum quickly in Chinatown without all the hassle of waiting in line to be seated, this is your place. But be sure to know that the reason why people wait at the other places is because the food is better there. After getting that out of the way, Sun Ya is great for what it is.

They have super nice folks who make the experience really welcoming. But when it came to the food -- it was just meh. We got a real good assortment of humbao, shumai, shrimp balls, rice noodles, bean curds, sticky rice, etc. They were all pretty ok. Not great like the food at Jade Garden or Top Gun in Factoria.

Would I go here again? Probably. Only if there 1 hour before a Seahawks game and I'm hungry and wanted to go to dim sum. This place is perfect for that.

Ok, so here's what I ordered. I got the 1/2 fish and chips (mac and jacks battered) and clam chowder with a Pyramid Snowcap. Now, on paper that sounds delicious right? On paper.

It all started with the snowcap. It didn't taste like the regular snowcap, seemed watered down so I returned it back and they gave me another one. Maybe it was their keg of snowcap, but it seemed tainted. I settled for a Manny's instead. But they were pretty rude about it. I'm not saying I'm a beer connoisseur, but I know what local snowcap tastes like.

Then the food came out, the fish and chips were alright, not something to rave about -- but good nonetheless. The clam chowder I got wasn't hot, it was verging on warm and that's not cool. Used a lot of the sourdough bread to sop it all up.

All of this for $25 bucks? Remember, 1/2 fish and chips, clam chowder, and 1 pint of Manny's. A little overpriced in my book, but go if you like that sort of thing. I'd rather head down to Ivar's and grab me some real fish / chips and clam chowder.

After going there on a Wednesday at 7:15pm and being turned away because it was "closed" (they close at 8pm) -- I still went back the next day before at 7pm and they let me in. I got their cheez whiz philly steak and onion rings.

Onion rings were pretty delicious, it had a crunch and they were actually onion rings that weren't the same size. I hate onion rings that look the same, doesn't make any sense.

The cheez whiz philly steak was cheez whiz heavy. Way to much whiz, but if you like that -- this is the place for you. I should have probably gotten the peppers and mushrooms cheese steak. The whiz isn't all that great, but I'll give them another try.

Pho Bac

Pho is pho here. It's a good place to go for pho in the area. Don't let the connection with the Greyhound fool you. They make a pretty good bowl of pho here. I wouldn't say it was the best ever, or I'd go out of my way to go to this specific place for pho -- but since I work in the area, it's a standard.

I usually get small beef pho with steak. If you want to thinly sliced steak that cooks in the broth, make sure you mention steak in your order. The banh mi is always good too (bit pricey), I always get the grilled pork one.

Although they have good standard ordinary pho, the folks who work there are awesome. Always nice and super friendly.

The best deal in Seattle. For just $6, you can get a growler of Manny's! They have a great selection from Manny's Pale Ale, Roger's Pilsner, 9 Lb Porter and Chopper's Red Ale. If you're going for any occasion, they're a good stop for a beer run.

If you want to taste something special, try Bob's Brown Ale which releases each year at May 14th. It's dedicated to their friend who died of cancer and a 100% of their proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House. Great cause.

Along with making some great beer, the folks (i.e. Lisa, Manny, and Roger) there are awesome and friendly. Cheers!

The beauty of this place is that you make what you eat. Ok, that isn't anything new, but what these folks do is cook the burger perfectly. When they say they have it pink in the middle that's exactly what they do. My burger was so juicy and scrumptious. Here's what my burger consisted of:

1/3 lb beef. Roasted green chilis. Honey cured bacon. Fried egg. Lettuce. Tomatoes. Caramelized onions. Jalapeno jack cheese. Roasted garlic aioli. All on a honey wheat bun.

The food didn't stop there. Not to mention the fried pickles, sweet potatoes fries, shoe string onion rings, and beer to go along with it. It can be a bit expensive, but it's worth it for the variety and the adventure you can have.

Simple and tasty. If you're looking for a tasty treat while walking through Uwajimaya, check out Bearded Papa's. They have huge and mini cream puffs in three different flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and green tea. They're all natural creams and made to order, which is awesome. My favorite is the green tea and chocolate.

I'll be honest, it's a bit expensive since it's close to a bit over $2 per cream puff. But you have to realize this is a pretty large puffy cream puff. I wouldn't get this all the time, but when I do -- it's what you're craving.

Samurai Noodle

I always get the chicken/pork broth noodles. That's my favorite because it brings together the saltiness of the chicken broth, and the richness of the pork broth. Best of both worlds. Also, I get the thin noodles instead of the bigger noodles just because it's way easier to slurp up.

If you're hungry, get the Samurai Armour where you'll get a marinated egg and more pork along with a lot of other tasty stuff. But if you don't want to pay the extra $3+, just get extra noodles. Save the broth, and the extra noodles is definitely worth it.

I love this place, and I try my best to go here as much as I can. Since you can validate your parking with Uwajimaya, you can bypass the horrible parking in Chinatown. Enjoy!

The Original Philly's

I love this place. I got my usual, the Deluxe cheese steak. Basically a cheese steak filled with bell peppers, grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, and mayo. I've tasted their regular cheese steak, hich is awfully delicious too. I like getting the most bang out of my buck, so the Deluxe is my natural choice.

You might think a $8-9 whole Philly cheese steak might be over priced, but it's totally worth it. I wouldn't get the fries or anything else since it's so much already, but if you're up for it -- get the cheese fries. Other than Tat's, this is definitely a good cheese steak.

Using my $20 Groupon, I ordered a hefty lunch. From what my friends have said, I should get the BLT. Along with the BLT, I ordered a tomato/basil soup and a tall Americano. It was definitely a tasty lunch during a gloomy day.

The BLT was filled with a good amount of savory bacon, not like other places that only fill it with several slices. The sandwich was awesome, but I didn't feel the same about the soup. I like my soups smooth, and their tomato/basil soup was a bit chunky (veggies). If chunky is your thing, then thats good. I like a good blended tomato soup.

Definitely check them out for their sandwiches, they do it right.
