Ok. So I can go here, buy a book about existential angst or history gone awry, and then drink myself into oblivian without having to make an effort to find a bar on the street. I can also die as a result of the chocolate encrusted fork before me at three in the morning. This place is absolute heaven. You really can't beat the combination of cacao infused death and the boozy little book bar that goes with it. No, no you can't.

I used to live a few blocks from this place, and their Carne Asada plate is literally the best in the city. You can get Pulque here as well, which is really the icing on the cake for me. The arroz con leche is also awesome, but I think you have to get that at the mercado which is attached to the taqueria. You can also get the Carne Asada at the mercado uncooked and it's the same stuff they sell at the taqueria.
Glorified truck stop food. Ok, after reading all the hype about this place I had to try it. It's completely overrated. We waited for an hour to get a seat, then 45 more minutes for our food after being seated. Now, I don't mind waiting for food, specifically good food, but the green chile burger was completely mediocre. The green chile tasted like it came from a can (sacrilege!), and the burger, while juicy, had very little flavor. It's really my own fault though as I should have known something was wrong based on how many tourists were dining here. Sadly, I'll never go back. By far not the best burger in America.
A word to the wise: go for the beer, not the cocktails, unless you happen to know the bartenders. The margaritas truly are terrible. I really like that it's outside and high above the street but most of the time the music is bland cover/funk/suburban jam rock, i.e., it's better suited as background noise for that alcohol induced conversation with the "I'm really excited to be here" tourist sitting next to you. The servers are really quick and friendly considering that it can get pretty hectic and (I imagine) confusing for them when it's filled to the brim with tourists and locals vying for that one open seat and then rearranging the tables and chairs to accommodate yet another thirsty individual.

Bike Central

This is a great little bike shop! I needed some new drop bars for my bike and Bike Central was the last place I looked. They had exactly what I was looking for and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I didn't know the first thing about sizing and they didn't make me feel stupid in the least. It's a small shop that specializes mainly in single speed and track bikes (that's the impression that I received while I was there). I wish I was still in Portland so I could buy that fancy new set of cranks I've been pining away for...

McPeets Portland Pub

McPeets is a real gem. I used to work down the street and I'd take my lunch breaks there sometimes. The first time I walked in I felt like I was coming home, and the beautiful wood paneling and formica tables continued to beckon me throughout my time in Portland. The beer is cheap and the place has character. The clientele is diverse, from bros to hipsters to your dad and his buddies and the drunk girl in the corner that always finds a reason to cry and someone to take her home. The bartenders may require a bit of patience on occasion, but it comes with the territory. A very nice place indeed.

Basement Pub

Dark, friendly, and cheap. Great Jukebox too. When you enter the Basement, it's like walking into a beer drenched man-cave. I used to live down the street, and spent quite a bit of time there. The big pints are great and the bartenders are no bullshit but friendly too.
A very nice little surprise in Phoenix. I went on a Saturday night with a friend, and the service was great, drinks were not too expensive, and the bartender was pouring generously.

This is as good as it gets for Phoenix. I've been going to Stinkweeds for over 10 years, and whenever I'm in town I try to make a trip. Phoenix needs more places like this and more people like Kimber!
