Fernwood Resort

Short Story: Disorganized and Rude.

Long Story:
For my girlfriend's birthday, we took a 6.5 hour drive up to Big Sur and checked into the Fernwood for tent camping. We drove down to the camping area to find out that someone else had taken the site we reserved and paid for a week in advance. Reporting back to the front desk, the young lady who had checked us in was very pleasant and helpful. She directed us to the manager for what the next step in resolving this would be.

The manager, who I can only assume is related to the owners somehow, as savvy business owners don't usually leave a 16-year old in charge, said she would make no effort to relocate the people who had taken our site and that if we weren't interested in her coupon, we were basically S.O.L.

Word of advice to those who make a reservation, it means nothing. Someone else can arrive and do a 'self check-in', and if they're in your spot and not around, the management will do nothing about it. Save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else. Show owner comment »

Amazing. My gf. and I went on a friday night, so it was definitely busy and loud. It seemed like most of the crowd that was there are regulars. Patrons drinking wine with the servers, and the chefs fist bumping some of the ppl walking in. Great friendly vibe, and our server, Bobbi P, was so upbeat and pleasant. And not in the cheap fake bubbly way a lot of other servers use to push for a tip. She made it a genuinely fun experience.

We ordered the:

Grilled Romaine with Shaved Parmesan - I didn't know grilled lettuce with cheese could be so delicious

Potato Dauphinois - Ordered it as a complement to the filet mignon...tasty but forgettable

Salmon Croquette - Perfect flavor in such a tiny bite. I could've ordered a second plate.

Seared Ahi with sweet onion soy - Sweet onion soy made this tuna plate better than a lot of seared ahi's i've had.

Prime Filet Mignon with Roquefort Butter - I usually don't care for much butter, but it was great with such a perfectly tender and seasoned piece of meat

I saw the horrible reviews on BOTH entries of this dry cleaning company, but went anyways due to pure laziness and convenience.

As far as customer service, they made me feel like i was inconveniencing them with my patronage.

Also, i work during their weekday hours, so i went to pick up my clothes around Noon, during that small 10am - 2pm window they have on a Saturday, and they were closed. What kind of business are they running?

When i did finally pick up my clothes, the associate said that they had an emergency. I'd give them benefit of the doubt, if they didn't have such terrible reviews at all of their other locations. Screw this place.

Seriously, read the other reviews, and take your business to a dry cleaner who will appreciate it.

This truck offers a variety of cookies and ice creams for you to choose from. Everything from red velvet to traditional chocolate chip.

While definitely generous with the portion, the ice cream and cookies themselves aren't anything special. Great for a hot day out, but i think i'd prefer a skinny cow.

I've eaten at the truck about 6 or 7 times now. I get the pork banh mi every time. It has been a little inconsistent, but when its good, its GOOD. Don't let them talk you into the lemongrass chicken as an option. Its not bad, but once you've had the pork, the chicken by comparison is bland.

Also don't forget to ask for napkins during pick up. I'm not sure if they're trying to cheap out, or if its just the one asian guy whos always handing me my sandwich, but the last three times i've been there I've had to request them as they aren't available for you to just grab.

I haven't actually been to the restaurant, but we ordered it in for a late night at the office, so i won't be able to tell you about the atmosphere or service.

But after tasting the Red Wine Braised Pot Roast, i'd be fine if the waiter spat directly into my eye and the table was a dirty milk crate. The meat was oh so tender, that my take out plastic fork was all i needed.  A seemingly more modern style of cuisine, don't expect a plate with food spilling off of it, but well composed portions that are savory with every bite.

Can't wait to go back and actually dine at the location

The banner at the front door quotes, "The Best Pancakes in America" - Esquire Magazine, and "The Best Coffee Shop in America" - Saveur Magazine.

I'll agree that the coffee shop is quaint, folksy, and clean, especially considering its a 24/7 diner, but i was disappointed in the pancakes. The portions are as generous as any texas truck stop diner would serve, but the pancakes arrive in a moat of butter, on top of the already buttery flavor of the pancakes themselves. Great texture and moistness, but would be epic if they could cut back on the butter.

The corned beef hash was good, but honestly i prefer the canned corned beef hash when cooked to a crisp, so i am biased. The scrambled egg whites were moist, not runny, and the hash browns did the job.

High marks for great service. While we could tell that our waitress wasn't exactly ecstatic to be there and that it was a bit of a forced smile, she was very pleasant, kept the coffee filled, and checked up on us often.

We came here to celebrate my gf's mom's birthday. When we arrived our reservation placed our table immediately behind the front desk, and next to the bar. We were told it would be an extra half hour for a better table so we waited. The hostess told us we could wait in the lounge upstairs until our table was ready.  When we couldn't figure out how to get to the lounge, my gf's mom's bf asked the hostess where it was. She replied curtly, "the third floor...i told you, THE THIRD FLOOR.  At that point we considered just leaving.

Fortunately for the shitty hostess, our server in the lounge was awesome. Very attentive, and friendly. Our table server was equally accommodating. Our dinner mood was also improved by the live jazz band playing downstairs.

The Lobster bisque had left something to be desired. The ones i've had previously were of the creamier base, while this one was more brothy.

My gf and i split the Filet and Lobster plate. A little bit on the salty side for my tastes, but flavor wise, it was delicious. The beef was cooked perfectly and the lobster was rich and buttery.

For dessert, we ordered the Cheesecake filled strawberries covered in chocolate and the Chocolate Caramel Tart. The strawberries were perfectly sweet and fresh with a mild cheesecake that wasn't overly heavy. The Caramel Tart was VERY rich, but sweet jesus...it was delicious. I would recommend spitting it as it would be too sweet for one person.

Attended for the moth show, which was the only thing that kept it fun.

The tapas menu looks great, but my girlfriend and i were pretty disappointed. We ordered plate after plate, hoping something would hold up, but each one had its own issue. The steak tasted like frozen hamburger meat with no spices. The shrimp was chewy by being overcooked. The almond and olive plate was a muddled pile. The only thing i could recommend are the chicken empanadas with a slightly spicy dipping sauce. Even the Sangria had a dull flavor. At around $11 a tapas plate, i recommend you take a stab at the entrees. You might have better luck.

We didn't get a server until 30 mins after we were seated, and we were the ones who had to track him down. This isn't a slight to the entire service staff, just the one rotten apple that we had. All of the runners were amazingly friendly, and quick.

If they were to franchise in LA, i would invest. I've only been able to have them once when they've come to town, but it ruined me for standard  hot dogs.

Their flavors are spot on. The balance on their fusion is perfect. Doesn't overwhelm or lose the taste of the dog. Can't wait til they come back.
