Crepes that actually beat expectations!
After occasionally sampling their bread at grocery stores over the years, we finally made it down to their Madison shop for a Saturday morning breakfast. Their coffee is a solid performer--better than fuel, perhaps not quite as perfect as Vivace.
We had the apple crepe which was their seasonal special. It was hands down the best crepe I've ever tasted. Their blueberry scone was also outstanding--not dry, but not muffin like either. We'll be heading down their often.

This is the one of the best restaurant deals in Seattle. The food is outstanding for the price ($9 / entree). I especially recommend the thick, delicious curries. The portions are large, so you should either share dishes or expected leftovers.
The ambiance varies dramatically by your location in the restaurant. Try for the window table to the right as you walk or one of the booths in the back. The room to the left gets very hot in the summer time and feels more cramped.
The atmosphere and food both exceed Rom Mai Thai. I wouldn't go to any other Thai restaurant in capitol hill.

Boom Noodle

Neighborhood: First Hill
Forget the noodles, and stick with their tasty (and relatively inexpensive) small plates. The edamame puree, salmon tataki, and miso rice cakes, and curry potato korokke are all excellent. The tori karaage is also good if you're in a fried chicken mood. They do the east/west fusion thing suprisingly well for a less expensive restaurant. Food always comes out very quickly, and the bartenders are friendly.

Hopvine Pub
Categories: Pubs, American (New), Sandwiches

The Hopvine has good food, but the service is consistently the slowest I've seen in Seattle. They have a tiny kitchen that might be able to support a restaurant half it's size. I used to eat at the bar on nights that weren't crowded, but I've had enough painfully slow experiences that I no longer go back there at all. The wait staff isn't exceptionally fast either.
The wine and beer selection is okay, but not great. They have a big local selection which is good, but alot of the microbreweries they choose just aren't good. They don't have a liquor license.

For an afternoon appetizer, the pear crostini was excellent. The sandwiches seemed overpriced, though the polenta fries almost justified the prices. This afternoon, we shared a fairly lackluster pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni itself was great, but the pizza was oily and mediocre.
Overall, if you're stuck in U Village and need a bite, it's not a bad option.
